Just updating the thread. We had a guy on youtube upload the 360 version of 3rd Strike running on this and managed to get the same authentic results Fudoh had with his testing awhile back.
Ive put some more work into the Scanline Generator. Since Im using the Scanline Generator on xbox360 and Dreamcast Ive concentrated now on other consoles and arcade stuff.
Here for example is the complete chain of connecting a Playstation 2 to a LCD with scanlines.

Im now offering all needed stuff from RGB S to VGA with scanlines, its called DIY Scaler Kit at ArcadeForge.
The last two pictures shows my own VGA Male gender changer. The complete chain is now like Plug and Play.
Last weekend I had an presentation on the Eurocade 2011. My setup was
NeoGeo MVS -> MAK Strike (ArcadeForge’s Supergun) -> Sync Strike (sync cleaner, connector adaptation) -> Scaler PCB (convert to VGA 31Khz) -> SLG3000 -> LCD
All the PCBs have an acryl laser cut enclosure.
Adding scanlines do not only give you an old CRT feeling. Adding scanlines sharpens the picture on interlaced video source. Since scaling doubles every line the video result is very pixelated and somehow blurry. The scanline generator prevents this unwanted scaling and gives the picture more sharpness. Since every line was doubled there is no picture information loss on interlaced material.
Coming to 480p sources. This ones have different informations in every line. Adding just black scanlines will come with CRT like picture, but comes with information loss. So we`ve included the scanline intensity adjustment control via a simple knob. Just turn the intensity of scanlines a little bit lower and the human eye recognised the dimed picture information. This way the SLG3000 delivers scanlines with no information loss on 480p material.
SLG3000 is perfect in combination with xbox360 and a VGA Cable. Arcade Games just looks crisp.
Have fun

I was having some fun last night when I wanted to test out RE3 for DC. The first reference was on vga and I didn’t remember the game looking anywhere near blocky like this, so I hooked up to my tube via s-video and noticed with the sharpness down and screen interlaced it was actually perfect. Pixels blended, all the intended effects came together… couldn’t get that even with the slg.
Then I came up with this idea.
!. Faroudja
2. CGA/VGA
3. SLG
Everyone wants high def… this game demands the opposite. With s-video hooked to my Faroudja and it outputting to my tube while it outputs vga to the CGA/VGA, I was able to run proper brightness and sharpness settings to match EXACTLY what was going on the big screen. Also you guys are genious as the SLG can run “interlaced” so I was able to maintain 480i for that finishing touch. So why exactly did I add the CGA/VGA? Guess it adds that extra filter I needed to begin with to get the graphics to blend, otherwise they’d still be blocky. shrugs.
Ran tests with SFIII: Double Impact with this and still couldn’t believe it. Maybe I can jam Bangai-O on this later.
hey bencao your doing some cool stuff
I’m just a little confused at what the cga2vga does I understand the Sync Strike does it converts scart to VGA then the slg3000 adds the old school scanlines
I’m looking to use my saturn on a lcd and I know scart is the best connection I can get and I want the scanlines but do I need the cga2Vga and what will it do thanks man
Sync Strike first offers a sync cleaning, so optimizes the signal. Second it offers a connector adapter from SCART Input to VGA like connector output. VGA connectors are not only used for 31Khz, but for 15Khz, too. The mentioned cga2vga scaler has exactly this interface. Then the cga2vga scaler makes the scan conversion from 15Khz to 31Khz.
There is only a LM1881 inbetween. Datasheet says that it accepts NTCS, PAL, SECAM. You want to connect some arcade PCBs which outputs some odd signal like this? I`ve tested about 20-30 Arcade PCBs and MVS with Sync Strike and this scaler (question applies here, too) and had no problems.
I`ve saw different customers using the Sega Saturn and SLG3000 via an Upscaler (like my upscaler on arcadeforge.de). Have in mind that SLG3000 is designed to work with VGA.
exactly I’m confused I took apart my model 2 last night and the whole board is different from the model 1 pictured in the mod so I have no clue how to do it
First of all, thanks to Florian who sents me his whole SNES equipment for testing. I`ve put up the chain and got the well known “No Signal” error. Nevertheless I know that my stuff is working properly, so I was quite sure that there must something with the scaler. But after a little chat with Fudoh (thanks man!) he pointed out that the XRGB-3 has same issues with SNES. So I focused on the SNES RGB cable.
It turns out that SNES signal level are far to high from a RGB point of view. So I made a attentuation circuit and put it into the RGB Cable, where it should placed imho.
I`ve included here my sclaer settings. The scaler tend to quit work if the picture is not centred. So relax, take your time and configure your scaler properly for your LCD.
It gives just Scanlines to RGB SCART consoles without any need of additional scaler or sync stripper. It`s easy to install and to configure.
Installation:
Step 1 : Connect it inbetween Your RGB Scart Console and your LCD with Scart input.
Step 2 : Plug in Power Supply Unit
That’s all. Turn on and off the scanlines, adjust the scanlines level, just as you want.
Features:
Scart in
Scart out
PSU Jack
Scanlines on / off switch
Scanlines intensity adjustement via knob
LED on / off
4 pcs Mounting holes M4
This project gives scanlines by only connecting it between your SCART RGB console and LCD . No need for additional scaler pcb or sync stripper circuit.
This is a new project. For the first two weeks ArcadeForge is offering a price of 29€, after that final price will 35€ (01.11.2011).
I heard you mentioned from Shmups the SLG was covered in Retro Gamer recently? I tried checking the stands and didn’t find it. Can you point out the page and issue number?
