rambo is using dhalsim, i think damdai may have used ryu instead of ken not sure though.
i havent seen damdai play ryu in sf2 in forever

He was playing Ryu at those ST gatherings Howard was holding. His Ryu got back up to speed in such a short time, ST like riding a bike. It’s a good team to say the least.
Well if Damdai and/or Rambo go to Tougeki they’re obligated to take as much footage as DSP would’ve. That’s primarily the reason why I was pulling for him.
I played damdai last week and he used ONLY Ryu all the time, so i asked.
I just cant wrap my head around the fact that DSP stuck with DJ instead of picking Rog, because:
- DSPs DJ already lost to Damdais Ryu in Tournament 2
- DJ-Ryu is a 3-7 matchup
- Rog-Ryu is a 6-4 matchup
- DSPs Rog is really solid
- DSP knew that his main rival in the last tourney would be Damdai’s Ryu.
It just doesnt make any sense whatsoever to me. If anyone attending could explain Phils reasoning to me, I’ld be much obliged.
Judging from his rants/vids, Phil believes in playing characters you like more than anything else. Even if you don’t like him, you gotta respect that.
Yeah, I remember that yt video, I think he wanted to show that it’s the character you’re more comfortable with rather than the matchup. And I wanted him to win too, part of it was so I could see an SBO/Japan video log. And it would have been cool to see him play against the Japanese.

I definitely respect his decision as well as his performance, coming back from losers after having already played 2 tournies before to force the final set in a highly disadvantegeous matchup. I just thought that DSP likes Rog as well, seeing how he was his go-to character in most majors he attended up to 2007.
Well i didn’t even check the rules for this tournament, but at SBO you are character locked. So it does no good to counterpick if he is going to be locked with Dee Jay in Japan. Idk, thats how i see it.
Oh yeah, you were char-locked in this tourny as well. Guess he just decided that hes better with DJ than Rog overall.
Im also kinda surpised he used Claw first time around, though I do remember DSP using him against Valle in casuals at EVO 07 or 06 (not sure).
Maybe that was suposed to be his anti-Damdai specific char.
Whatever, major props to all participants for giving their all, providing us with some intense matches, as well as to Jason for setting all of this up thanks to his friendship with that Tougeki head guy. Hes doing alot for the community and keeping a low profile in this age of Gooteksian selfpromotion, and is an overall great guy. Plus, his arcade has an A3 machine
