One of the wolfe brothers said it best. If you play your match and get absolutely worked by your opponent. You know that your X can’t beat his Y. If you still pick X again, what are you expecting to be different? He’ll rape you as hard as he did the time before. You should have a back up in cases like that so you can fall back on someone else that your comfortable with. and maxiumize your chances at a victory. What is wrong with that?
Players will learn match ups via experience and USA players being knowledgable on multilpe characters shouldn’t be seen as a handicap but as a strength.

I am very surprised at the amount of people on here being surprised @ the US teams losing first games. I mean really, what are you guys thinking? It’s been like this for the past 10 years and more. It’s not gonna change.

Here’s a fact, on ARCADE hardware and ARCADE architecture, Japan wins at all the major SF games hands down.
A lot of people cling to console results and console format in the US when some of the Japanese come here and play, but fact of the matter is Japan is leagues ahead of everyone here.
You are kidding yourselves if you think otherwise. We PLAY on console as an exclusive format, they NEVER do it. When US goes to JAPAN, they win, simple as that. This is nothing new.
Single Elimination is their format. Not one round.
Also, people ragging on anyone from the US for losing will more than likely lose to all of the people on the US team anyway. Armchair quarterbacks if you ask me. All this Justin Wong hating and such. In this You Tube age, everyone thinks they are god at some game and talks shit about how people play, yet they all get raped, bottom line.
We can live in CONSOLE world out here, but at SBO you HAVE TO PLAY ON ARCADE architecture and use their controls and believe you me, Japan is a monster on arcade cabinets.
I love how when arcade players lose they are supposed to adjust to console, and when console players lose, it’s because they could not use pad/stick or hate the format. (Obviously the US players in the tournament are not the ones I am referring to)

The idea apply’s to all fighters. and it was a quote from the front page of SRK a few years ago “roadtrip to Evo”. Regardless of SF4 not being out at that point, it still rings true. You don’t need to have mastered 5 characters in a game, just being good enough to exploit your opponents short comings is enough. Jwongs balrog isn’t his main character, but it was good enough to beat Daigo one set and almost winning the 2nd set. Would justin have done as well if he stuck to rufus or abel? probably not, he realized that and made a switch and it paid off the first set. he stuck with it and almost came out on top in the 2nd set.
Would Justin have an improved rufus if he stuck with him throught the tournament? Probably, but would he have done as well? Probably not. But can he still get that learning experience outside of a tournament? Yes, and thats where he should be doing his learning, in casuals or locals. Not on the stage of the grandfinals at evo.
Justin will probably play tons of games at the local arcades using all of his characters and get better as a result. Thats what all the foreign teams are likely doing. He’s doing his learning there, not on the tournament stage.
Uh, I don’t know what all the stupid drama about taunting, marn, american players losing, etc has to do with anything. However, I can say I’m excited to see some footage of these matches, especially Makoto repping Vega for claw noobs such as myself around the world.

That’s a fair point. What I don’t understand though, is why Marn was putting so much time into Viper when he was already locked with Rufus for SBO.
Want to learn Viper? Want to use her well? Sure, do it when its not 1 month and even 1 week before you know you’ll be playing at the most famous tournament in the world with Rufus. Instead, we see him using Viper left and right at Japanese arcades and even at Godsgarden, which all would have been good times to get quality Rufus match up experience against Japanese players.
I’m not hating, but the logic really escapes me.

This is pretty much the exact response I was expecting. Marn, I think you play Street Fighter pretty good. I would hope you would be good with how dedicated you are. My point is that I think you have a lot of growing to do as a person. You need to look in the mirror more often.
Your beef is with me and then all of the sudden it’s with the entire SF4 community? That’s sad that you got so emotional because of one person…one critic. You put yourself on display to be criticized. Why do you wear pajamas in public Marn? Why did you wear that giant flotation device around your neck at EVO? Why do you disrespect people by shoving your crotch in their face after a match? It’s because you need attention, you want people to notice. Marn, you don’t need to do any of that. You are one of the best players in the US already, w/o the antics.
I think once you grow up and mature a little you will in turn become more successful at whatever endeavor you desire. There is one thing about Justin and his antics. He backs it up by being the best in the US hands down. Where were you at EVO Marn? Did you win MWC simply because Justin didn’t play?
Oh one more thing. Being such a public figure in this community you need to watch how you treat people. As a general rule you should be respectful so in turn you will be open to receive respect. If that crotch thrusting would have happened to me, I can’t guarantee I would have ignored it. I’m only human and there is a chance I would have just punched you in the nuts just for being a jerk.

No shotos or top tier made it to the grand finals. I am surprised to see 3 of the new characters at the final rounds and Dhalsim. Props to the Rufus/C.Viper team winning SBO.
