yes, two big shouldered/hipped/whatevered people playing on a tiny cab is NOT fun
even a big and small whatevered person can cause trouble. sucks being polite in those situations

Humbag: Yeah, that’s something that’s been going on for years in tourneys, though. Big players and all. I mean, this is something you don’t see often, but if people want to bring mega cabinets and install em up for us, we’ll be glad to take em, but we have to use what we can, and believe me, dedicated 25 inch Q-Sounds, and 33 inch deluxe cabinets aren’t so bad, but I see where you are coming from.
About SFIV, I am not saying he is going to get it, but I honestly don’t think he should if no one is going to support the place. That’s a hefty chunk of change.
This is just what I heard from the majority of the Chicago scene on why they stopped going to Nickels, and does not hold my personal views. I have nothing against Amar or Nickel City and I prefer arcade over console any day too. Heck, I’d gladly support it if people showed seeing as how its only a 7 min drive.
But, to speculate as to why he would spend the money on getting SFIV? Maybe he feels that buying SFIV will bring some of the OG chicago heads back. In other words, he thinks he can just buy friends or whatever else he wants. Most of these people however, have grown tired of his act and belittling. Besides what’s a few thousand dollars investment to a self-made and most definitely, self-proclaimed millionaire?
SF4 won’t be out in the arcades until July.
That early?
Random: And? We aren’t talking about getting this by EVO North, just in general.
MadBooFace: You have to take everything with a grain of salt. Regardless of attitude or whatever, think of it this way, if Amar was NOT the operator, would you guys have EVER seen Guilty Gear arcade games in there? I mean, that’s what you have to ask yourself, he was trying to get people in the place before, and I guarantee at the least, not one person in Chicago has ever had any luck stepping up to the owners of Diversions or Dennis’ PLace for stuff like this, that’s for sure.
The most important parts of the arcade for the locals are these:
Are the cabinets up to par? DO the joysticks work? Are they fixed when staff is informed?
New machines? Is the operator listening to the customer base?
If Amar is not performing up to duties 1 and 2, then I can see why people would not want to go there, but he’s picked up more machines for Chicago players than any other arcade has in the past 10 years on a definitely dead arcade scene, so you have to give him that much respect regardless of what the story is.
With that said, he’s a busy guy, get a list together, write it up of what needs to be done to the arcade before the tournament. Give it to me. Remember, I am only in town one day before the tournament, so I can’t figure out this stuff on my own, and it’s a 7 hr drive from Nashville for me.
The only new stuff NC has been getting are the games making him money: DDR, Mariocart, redemption games, etc. and that is completely understandable.
All of the stand up fighting game cabinets have been the same ones for the last 2 or more years and as most people remember are getting kinda old. Specially the big cabs since they are used the most for the main fighting games: MvC2, 3s, etc.
As long as we dont run into the situation like the big 3s cab had with mounting the sticks, we should be ok.
ddr? no…he still has extreme…and hardly anyone plays. It’s old as shit. and I don’t think he makes much off of MarioKart…Wouldn’t that guilty gear be the latest game he’s gotten?
I think Nickels does 1 pretty well, more than others did. But I’m not sure about 2…I don’t think he would…
I know Dennis would listen to us pumpers and we would get the newest version of Pump It Up every year, after one of us let him know.
If I can get the money saved up, I’mma be there fo sho!
LOL ,the fact Nickels even HAS Mario Kart is a feat.
Humbag: The only new fighting games I am aware of are Arcana Heart, Fist of the North Star, and SNK stuff. Not exactly moneymakers if you ask me. He has all the popular ones, plus T5DR I think, and I’m sure he’s the closest arcade with Guilty Gear anywhere, so unless there’s an MVC3, and some crazy Arcana Heart or Melty Blood crowd, I don’t see the issue, just finally hits people that THESE GAMES ARE OLD THAT WE HAVE IN TOURNEYS ANYWAY.
3s is 9 years old, MVC2 is 8 years old, that’s the problem. That’s exactly why I laugh at the whole situation sometimes. No one wanted to play CFE, so we’ll see if people play SFEX4 I mean, SFIV.
Sad to say, but not every arcade can get the newest, games, and as a pure arcade, Nickel City still beats anything else in that area AFAIK.
EX3 is fun, it just looks like a late N64 game lol.
TRUTH! Thats what I’ve been calling it too. :woot:
TOo bad it doesnt play like it at all (coming from reports and Bozac from Japan) haha.
I know that the games are old as dirt, I was just implying that the cabs themselves are old as dirt.
His Guilty Gear is still /, not ^Core.
He only has Tekken 5…it WAS 5.1, then it got downgraded back to 5.0 for some odd reason. He did not and will not get Dark Ressurection because people quit coming to NC to play T5…and the exodus got worse once HIP (R.i.P.) got T5DR…and it became more apparent that Amar was not going to get it.
Chi-town should be lucky the fighters are still there, because I spoke with Amar about it all around the time T5DR was coming out, and he was seriously considering getting rid of ALL of the fighters because they were making little money. It wasn’t that he WANTED to (because he said he liked playing them)…it was just, from a business standpoint, it didn’t make much sense to keep them there if they weren’t makin’ the big bank. Plus, we weren’t coming out as much anymore, for whatever reasons…I sensed a hint of disappointment…but who knows.
It could have been just him being frustrated with the situation that made him talk like that…or maybe he was serious-ish at the time (I mean, the fighters ARE still there, we all know this) I’m not tryin’ to stir up trouble…that’s just the real talk. Maybe it can provide some insight on things.
Fucking awesome avatar there Riot. Too bad Alec and Nic are on some trippy non hardcore shit nowadays.
I’m down to support nickels.
The reason the 360s have been so awful in recent years is because the quality of Happ 360 actuators has gone down, which has resulted in poor diagonal accuracy on these brand new joysticks.
Dreaded Fist created a modified actuator made of PVC which increases accuracy on the diagonals and makes them just as good as the old ones.
Please talk to Dreaded Fist and grab enough actuators for all of the tournament games. If you don’t, I can do it for you. We have been using these actuators in Austin for over a year now, and new Happ 360s are flawless with them.
Yes, you seem to know more about this than me but, if new 360’s are to be used yall should look into what poonage is saying here.
People want arcade perfect but don’t want to actually play in an arcade…
Well in either case I’m ready to suck it up on any cabinet lol.
Though I too had problems on the big screen cab of 3s. I was literally holding straight down and my character would not crouch. Had to stop in the middle of the game when I noticed that.
This sounds great. If there’s a major I wanna go 2 in the summer, this will be it 4 sure. I’ll be doing the same thing that Yetighettoslang is doing & lettin’ all the Cincy/Dayton/Columbus peeps know about this.
DreamTR, do u know the schedule of what games are playing on certain days or is that still in the works of being set up?
That’s all I have 4 now. Take it easy & have a good one. Peace. :china:
I’ll be there.
