Let’s look at the results… Pyro’s team actually did pretty damn good at SBO2, getting within a round of the top four.

This year, all foreign teams OCVed. The fact is, we still have never placed in a huge Japanese tournament.

Conversely, the japs have come to evo and taken our lunch money in 3s every single time. Sure random japs get beaten (usually by other japs), and a couple US players sneak into the top places. But they always take it. No big deal, they play it way more than we do.

same with ST, CVS2, GGXX …

I thought Justin and Ricky placed like top 16 or 8 last year at SBO3? And I wouldn’t go as far as including ST in your list, there are still great ST players on this side of the pacific.

Basically we’re arguing which has a better format: The NFL Playoffs, or the World Series.

Upsets can happen in both, but typically the top 1 or 2 seeds win the Super Bowl, and typically the top team wins World Series.

Someone said that SBO results were inconsistent, due to the single elimination format.

Gotta call B.S. on that. This is Spell Master J’s second SBO victory, and last year Nuki and Daigo won. Oh and the top 8/top 4 teams have had the same faces (KO, Kokujin, Nuki, MOV, etc.) for the last 3 SBO’s. Where is this inconsistency?

As for Gamervision ranking, someone mentioned, they are single elim until the final 4. And Nuki pretty much wins all of them. So that was a bad example to use.

Didn’t they just started using that 1 game at the beginning around 4 or 5 months ago? Cuz the older ranbats were 2of 3 all games.They should go back to that,but i think they just made the video longer or something.I wonder why they stop.

I’m starting to believe the Japanese format builds the higher quality players. I’m sure it’s stressful but if you can get used to it then you’ll be able to play better under pressure and you’ll be able to ignite faster. Both of these skills will separate the good from the great and will create true Beasts.

Time is awesome to have on your side, it’s one of the best allies to have. With it almost anything is possible (see movie: Groundhog’s Day). However that doesn’t gel well with real life where it’s finite and we have to do the best with what we have.

Well, people think kinda like this: “RTS/FPS takes 15-45 minutes… So fighting games should take that period too”

As wrong as it sounds, it’s basicly what is happening. People influenced by FPS and RTS scene aren’t satisfied with sitting there for 1 minute and 30 seconds and then admit defeat. EVENTHOUGH. that in those 99 seconds they did as much as FPS and RTS players do in 15 minutes.

3S is this generation’s ST. The game will last for years to come. It’s still steadily growing in the states. Maybe 3S will get taken out of the SBO lineup, and that’s a slight maybe, but there’s so many other events that’ll still have it as the main event. The game is here to stay.

I fully agree, although I doubt they’d take 3S out, it’s just a rumor in my opinion… but if they do take it out of the lineup (not like I give a shit, because I’ll still be playing that shit to death,) then I guess niggas best to step up to the new shit.

I disagree, Japan doesn’t care about Marvel because its not what they are good at.

Well in my opinion SBO 3S might have been a bad look for us but i remember when japan did 2/3 for a while over their and like i think it happend like last year they changed up their format to 1/1. Maybe they have gotten all their players to a certain degree. I think in america we prob are going through the same thing. I think we should all just study the mistakes and correct ourselves as players normally and then maybe we should debate if the 1/1 format should be applied. Before appling these rules we should understand why right.
