 Done and done.
Chris; I know you said you won’t need it but I packed my laptop regardless. If you turn out to need it after all I’m at the Red Roof and can grab it in an instant. If not then it’s all good.

Fei - Only reason I can see is that Daigo doesn’t know console characters as well as arcade.
Rufus - Not a good match up against Ryu, let alone Ryumehara.
Boxer - I’m indifferent on this one. He did well enough at Evo with him though.
Rose - Yeeeeeees.
So I didn’t pre-reg
I didn’t pre-reg but I’m coming down directly after work on Friday from MI. I’m thinking that’ll land me there just after 7:00PM should I have someone register for me or will someone be available to help me register slightly after the posted time
We are shooting for the Tatsunoko vs Capcom side tournament to be held tomorrow night after the main hype events die down, the SFIV 3v3 and the Marvel FT10. Anyone who is looking for info and entry into this event should be sure to come and see me, Pope Temmy. I’ll have my badge and a Hawaiian shirt on, most likely bright blue. So get at me.
This all being said, I have to admit that I haven’t been feeling 100% because of weather changes but that isn’t going to stop me from getting the hype train up to Columbus. I have nothing but pride for the great state of O-HYPE-O and I look forward to making my first Seasons Beatings the highlight of my fucking year.
What’s the Marvel FT10?
Nevermind, I didn’t realize Fanatiq vs Toan was an official event.
:cybot:
I responded to that already.
Hell yes. I think Destructoid mentioned something about Seth bringing the Frank West and Tekkaman Blade enabled version, so hell yes TvC.
I’m sure I’m going to get neg rep again on this thread for just bringing up a concern but here are my questions: What are those of us who just found out about the tournament supposed to do? This wasn’t advertised or made aware to us new in the scene like EVO, Barfights, West coast warzone, Devastation was. Most of us literally found out about this tourney over the last 2 days and suddenly hear about the Third and biggest match between Daigo and Justin Wong.
Now because we all just found out about the tourney 1-3 days before it happens (this should have been made known MUCH earlier especially since if I understand the rematch was confirmed back in July) we don’t have enough time to arrange a flight to Ohio.
We also understand that tourneys cost major$$ and most of us are not looking for a freebie and would totally understand paying to watch the event. Now we see advertised front and center on the sticky and the poster DAIGO VS JUSTIN FIRST TO 10!!! “Wow that’s awesome!!” is what crosses are mind. Then we discover their is a stream and get all excited only to find a note saying Daigo vs Justin will not be streamed.
WHAT!!! The next thing that crosses the mind is that you probably have to pay to see the main event, which would be understandable. Instead we find out that they are just plain going to walk up to the camera for the stream and turn it off when the main event happens. We are told to buy the DVD when that comes out some months later…
Do you guys seriously not see what’s wrong with this picture?
It really just comes across as trying to be a dick. It’s not that we mind paying, it’s that we won’t care anymore by the time the DVD comes out. You go through the whole trouble to set up a live stream just to turn it off for the main event? That’s like playing the whole football season live on t.v. and then telling people you can’t watch the superbowl on t.v and you’re gonna have to buy the dvd of it 6 months after it happens.
I know you’re getting the natural response to be angry and defend this decision out of pride but stop neg repping everyone for a minute and calm down and think about it.
What are we supposed to do? We have money. We want to watch the main event LIVE. You have all the technology set up to provide this. We are willing to PAY for the privilege. It kills the whole thing if you already know who wins and makes the DVD useless. Would make more sense to not cover anything with a stream and sell the whole event on DVD. At least then you can say you weren’t set up for a stream.
We have money, we want to see this live, you have the tech set up, the community wants to see this live. Why are you against the community?

You… just found out about this? OP was JUNE 2nd. It’s OCTOBER 15th.
There’s the community, then there is the lazy community.
If you’re in on this stuff, you should be proactive enough to either hear it in time by word of mouth or…CHECK THIS SECTION OF SRK?
It’s been here for a while. Don’t blame them because you just became aware. There’s always SB5 (POSITIVE OUTLOOK BRAH)
Edit - Goddamn, only 5 months? You failures. You should have made the OP the day after SB3! Stop failing the community :sadpanda: /serious
he’s probably like me and doesn’t check this forum a whole lot. I just found out about it as well since SRK put it on the front page. =(
I don’t think that saying the event costs money negates the credence of what the people who feel the exh should be streamed are saying. I think everyone is very thankful. I honestly do. We all understand that things cost monies. huur duur. The point is the rest of the event is being streamed and the exh is purposefully being held privately. So that doesn’t have anything to do with costs. There isn’t anybody who is gonna sit around and watch a stream when they could actually be there. It should be a good set but really… anyone who gives a crap about daigo and justin would go if they could. The stream always consists of neophytes and people who can’t make it. I think that’s why keeping it private is kind of illogical or just kind of a fuck you depending on how you look at it. So naturally you’re gonna hear some condescending voices. Sorry guys.
Just stream it and take donations. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
I was thinking the same really. Im sure Daigo has watched that match he had against wongs Rog a few times and played more Rogs in Japan so he might know the match up better.
Would wong taking up Fei be an attempt to play Daigo in a match he’s unsure of? If so, smart move on Wongs part.
ok, so I’m not complaining at all- I think anyone running a tourney should get credit for giving people anything at all, and don’t owe people a thing. I also agree with the idea that doing this costs money, and of course you want the organizers to get back as much as possible if not turning a profit. That said, I don’t really get what benefit not streaming just that one part of the event is supposed to have. Someone already said they don’t think it’s going to cause more people to actually go (and I agree with that, I think people that have the means to go and want to will, and others will either watch the stream or not- regardless of whether the justin/daigo match is streamed). So… do people think it will result in more DVD sales? I get the “gift for people coming” thing but it seems like just being there to experience things in person and be part of the community provides a good value in itself, which is why people are paying the money to go, right? It’s not like people who aren’t going are doing it out of spite or because they don’t think the event is good enough. Idk, if the stream is there and running and it doesn’t cost extra money to leave the stream running for that particular match, it seems more like punishing people for not coming than rewarding people for coming, but I guess it just depends how you look at it.
IMO, its’ more beneficial in the long run to get more coverage on the events people are most interested in out to as many people as possible, because then you might have more people who make the conscious choice to save money and make it in the future, or be more likely to buy DVDs and other future services because they come away satisfied instead of feeling alienated for not being there. And again- I’m looking at that from a benefit for the tourney organizers view, not the fans who I agreed aren’t entitled to anything.
If the idea is just that you don’t care as much about future increase in attendance/revenue from pleasing a wider audience, and instead you’re more interested in the people who are die-hard enough to do what it takes to be there, then I get that though.
Oh just a heads up to people trying to use the Superbowl anaolgy:
If it was more financially feasable to run the Superbowl as a Pay Per View they’d do it. The reason the Superbowl is put on free TV is because advertisers pay literally the highest per 30 second rate in all of televised media. That arguement does not apply in comparing to SBIV’s stream. Just drop that analogy, it holds absolutely no merit.
As for the point of “well we’d like to pay for it why can’t we?” There are two big reasons. The first is it’s not a cut and dry process to just get paid. Setting up a secure online account that people pay for and then link to a stream that’s unique to their IP is not easy stuff. Also, as I’m sure everyone is aware by now, once something is online, it’s impossible to govern how it’s distributed. People can and will find a way to watch it for free no matter how many security measures are put in place. So while it’s nice to believe that everyone will be happy to pay x amount of $$$ to see the stream, the reality is a few will pay for it and the majority will steal it.
I’d give him the benefit of the doubt if he hadn’t listed a bunch of other majors that were only advertised through SRK forums just like SBIV was.
Hell no. That shit would be mandatory. MANDATORY DONATIONS.
…wait.
Alot of us don’t join tournies and never have a reason to visit this section but we enjoy watching the pros play. This should have been announced in other places other then the tournament thread. It should have been advertised as it is now on front page of srk at least a few weeks ago, not 2 days before the event. It should have been up on eventhubs and other street fighter sites more then 2 days before the event.
And that’s all unfortunate. Daigo and Justin was confirmed like 2 months ago, now. It can’t be blamed on ANYONE but people that don’t catch it. It’s not like it’s their responsibility to read the minds of everyone that would be interested in a rematch of JvD. All they did was give the participants the option of viewing it live and in person.
An important thing to remember, and this has been mentioned ad nauseum, mind you: streaming is new to this scene. You all got a taste at EVO and now expect it? Do you have any idea how INSANE that sounds?
A few things to consider: You’re lucky there’s a stream at all. Next time, watch the tournaments thread more closely so you can buy a plane ticket sooner. When you buy the DVD, it’ll be well worth it. Think of it as an entire DVD of never before seen bonus features!
[Edit] Just so you know, seph, I got you back into the green.
