Savage Sword of Conan: Anybody else pick up this chunk of B&W Awesomeness?

My LCS ordered two copies, one for a friend, and an extra.

after pawing through my friend’s copy, I knew I must have it, so I was there FIRST THING this morning (despite my car being in the shop, me being tired from staying up all night playing Rock Band, and the fact that I had other things to do today) to pick up the remaining copy.

and I’m damn glad I did. the artwork in this thing, cover to cover, is just classic awesome BA S&S at its finest.

I haven’t really dug into it, but I’ve flipped through every page, and I plan on giving it a good sit down on my next day off. It’s simply amazing.

I’m glad that Marvel isn’t being a complete dick about its licensed stuff, that has lapsed (GI Joe, Conan, etc.), as I’m sure they could’ve easily been super anal about art and stuff.

it’s nice that this stuff is being reprinted for the fans.

Thanks for mentioning it. I was planning to get this when I heard about it in the old solicits but I didn’t know it came out already. Guess I need to get myself to the store soon.

Yup yup.

I got my copy on Thursday, and I am LOVING it.

not only do they have the covers (alas, in B&W, not full color), but they also have several of the pinups.

I really like the Neal Adams one.

this a new series?

nope, it’s a series of TPBs reprinting the old “Savage Sword” Conan tales.

speaking of conan, this thread prompted me to resume the dark horse-published conan that i started reading a few months ago. i’m not sure if it’s the character archetype, the actual storytelling or what, but the simplicity to satisfaction ratio of the story is spectacular. i think it’s hilarious that a series as simple as conan is galactically more interesting than something as convoluted and artsy as marvel’s dark tower.

testosterone fueled machismo ftmfw.

Yeah, man. I agree. I really like the Dark Horse series. I’ve only read the first couple Busiek TPBs, but I enjoyed them very much. I’m not even a Conan aficionado but it’s not like anyone needs to be a Conan expert to enjoy those yarns.

Have sword, will travel. That’s Conan, baby!

Didn’t know they had TPB’s I gotta pick em up. Savage Sword is a great comic. If I remember correct, are those John Buscema?

I believe the first volume is mostly Barry Windsor-Smith and a little Buscema.
