curt bringin the hate!
so my computer broke…is takin a hard drive from an old computer and putting it in mine hard?
it’s harder than getting a fucking job!!!
hate hate hate!
so you’re saying theres a chance…
if you can undo some screws and plug in wires, you can move a hard drive. just gotta make sure you set the pins to slave or cable select.
It’s really not that difficult if you know what you’re looking for. HD’s just look like a metal brick. You open up the tower, get a small phillips head screwdriver and unhunge the old one. Take a note whether it’s a master or slave drive (it’ll show you on the back/top of the drive) and set your new drive in the same fashion. After that you pull out the power supply chord going to the HD, slot out, slot in and plug in the power supply chord again. Re-screw it to lock it in place. It’s really cut and dry stuff.
Also, make sure you’re doing this in a place clean of static electricity. You don’t want to retain a charge when you’re working on this stuff or you could fry your motherboard.
so all i have to do is take out the broken HD, put in the one from the other computer and connect the wires? poeta said i might have to format the new HD before connecting it to my computer because its got a bunch fo different setting and shit. but if i can justplug and play that’d be awsome.
It’s always recommended that you format the drive.
I don’t think I’ve ever dumped a new HD with OS into a new comp before. Does that even work? Jason?
oh, i thought the hd swap was to replace a data drive. You don’t need to reformat if it’s not your C: Even if it was, windows is smart enough to assign a different drive letter for it.
if you’re swapping out your C:, you will need something else to boot the computer (CD/floppy), then format the drive (at leas the c: partition) and reinstall the OS.
you gotta replace and format. happened to me before
i did that once, when i was lazy one time. it just boot up, and ask u which window u want to open
