Dorian, if Ric is going to be your ride back to Saskatoon, I can possibly offer you a ride to Regina. I need to finalize my move plans to Regina, so I’ll let you know when I figure stuff out.
Has anyone played skullgirls yet?
I don’t like the random nature of GG style games but I wouldn’t mind messing around with it for fun. Granted the all bitch cast is way to fan service for my taste but if it’s good game I’ll overlook it.
Hey thanks dude.
I really appreciate it. I’ll pitch in some gas money for you, to make it worth your while.
Hey Rik, I switched out Raven for Guile. lol … I know. I needed someone familiar to ease me into the game. I’m finding the learning curve is a little steep, but that’s just cause I’ve been out of the loop for so long. I’m still working with Nina though as an anchor, but that might change. For some reason, outside of some sick combos, she’s feeling a little limited. More practice required.
Ha yeah man the last time you took fighters seriously was like around alpha anthology so it’s gonna be a adjustment. Guile is a good safe pick cause he’s got great normals, a good defense and great zoning game. He’s not quite remy but I suppose a similar core element retains between the 2.
Nina from my experience really excels in her mixups and pressure. I can’t relate her to any sf character but I would just say with most tekken characters to be mindful of the target combos and high and low game. Her command grab is probably her best tool during pressure, and she has exceptionally good normals and decent range. How’s your rank online?
500ish BP and Rank D, I think. In total, haven’t played a tremendous amount of online. Maybe half an hour every night. I switch up between that and just practising combos and pressure strings with Nina. Don’t really do much practising with Guile, it all comes pretty naturally. I still feel like I am missing the team element though, since I am usually going for strong individual character combos, without launchers. Haven’t figured out how to incorporate that effectively yet, since the characters on their own are already doing decent damage.
Team synergy builds gradually the more intuned you become to your characters. Once you start to optimize them individually the team dynamic develops naturally. It took me around my 2nd week to start learning how to effectively tag in and out between combos so it’s a process you have to work towards.
When you get your own copy I’ll help you online to learn the meta game a bit more. The best tool to be effective in this game is solid spacing and footsies, and as long as you can block and resist the urge to press buttons during pressure you should do just fine.
I can’t believe you are still playing SFxT Ric, you have some serious perseverance.
I played in a tournament in Richmond and got my ass handed to me by Rufus and Raven players.
It made me hate the game.
haha trust me rufus and vega have really made me wanna quit the game, but I realize heading into this game that using a character with no reliable AA will probably mean a lot of frustrating days lol.
Not to mention I’ve always been a low tier king. In SF2 I used fei, in 3s I used ryu and in SF4 I used fei who was initially low tier. Law probably isn’t as bad as them but he does have 1 notable flaw that can be easily exploited. I say just power through and try your best to overcome the loss and figure how why it happened. The number 1 quote that keeps me playing as low tiers or to continue playing even after a bad loss is this 1 from 3s.
I started focusing on developing my Hakan which I feel is a more fruitful venture.
Law is a fantastic character it’s just that it is impossible for him to win against Rufus
that has got to be 8-2 match up.
Hakan no matter how shitty people think he is does not have a match up that is as bad as rufus vs Law.
I will still continue to play SFxT causally but I will never put my money down on it again.
I am also thinking of playing Law on point just like you do
Hakan at least has a AA normal lol, I don’t know the match between him and rufus but I doubt it is anywhere near as bad as law vs rufus. Even vega vs rufus which is a match I know is terrible for vega is not as bad as it is for law. The design flaw comes from the fact that they didn’t develop a reliable AA or evasive tactic for law to handle him or any characters with a strong jumping pressure. I play him on point so that I can lean to adapt around his inherent limitations…its annoying and sometimes feels pointless especially against rufus.
I have yet to compete for money in SFXT but in my local tournament I’ll have the chance to see how far I can make it with my team. I would have gone to the canada cup event to fight off against wong’s rufus to see just how broken this match is lol.
That match-up will destroy your soul
Also Hakan has more than just the AA normal to back him up against Rufus
He can put all kinds of hurt on Rufus
that match up is 5-5
Really 5-5?
How does hakan make it even, I assumed his slow pace and lack of mobility would make it 7-3 Rufus?
Full retard
Only scrubs who know nothing chalk stuff up like Guilty Gear Being to Random, you should really be saying its a little to technical for you.
Please ric GG and games like it (not saying skullgirls is anything like GG it seems far from it) are a little to advanced for you. Run along back to your SFxT and keep telling yourself Law is a bad character and continue to only play capcom games and refer to any capcom game as being “Random”, i know your afraid of other games but you dont have to make shit up and say there bad.
And am not even trollin, you said it yourself Games like Kof and anything non capcom is a little to advanced for you.
I don’t mean to be rude, but SFXT is at least as technical as any of the vs. games we’ve had over the years. You worded it as if he was running back to it because it ISN’T technical, but personally I find SFXT to be quite on the technical level, at least, in the same way CvS2, and the MvC series are.
Hakan is basically the only character in the game with a unique parry like mechanic that you can use to focus through move then immediately cancel the dash with normal.
You can use this to create tick grab set ups on a large amount of moves in the game.
Also Hakan has the best Okizeme in SF4 not even Akuma can touch this
Hakan when oiled also has one of the fastest dashes in the game, his mobility is solid overall when oiled
Sorry man, i meant to word it in, that he only plays capcom games and claims hes some fighting game connoisseur. SFxT looks like an alright game, i still gotta try it.
Oh wow damn didn’t know that about hakan. I always dismissed him due to his tier placement but I wouldnt mind trying him out now. Who do you main in sf4 by the way?
I agree Dorian, sfxt is as technical as mvc3 and mk9 IMO. Granted the roster balance leaves a lot to be desired but excluding it I think it has a lot of potential.
Josh GG has a random factor to it. Maybe not like the garbage we see in mvc3 but there is a element of random at high level play…even latif told me it does.
To my dearest Ricardo
I currently main Sagat but I am trying to permanently switch over to Hakan.
Almost everybody that has ranked Hakan so low is wrong He is A tier now in my eyes and in the eyes of others who I have convinced
