Saskatchewan Thread 2012

May 11th-13th, Winnipeg MB

Will SFXT be there?

Sadly…yes.

Don’t forget Ryu.

Sfxt will develop the same way mk9 developed. Mk9 looks amazing now, IMO it’s a better game then mvc3 and it looks more exciting then sf4.

Here’s to hoping there aren’t enough entries for that ass game and they cancel the tourney.

Oh yea when you switched sticks and Donkey kicks started flying.

Sfxt is not a ass game, it’s a modern alpha 2 and it deserves a chance yo!

Law doesn’t have safe pressure? He has a move that’s -1 on block and a move that’s -5 and leads to a huge combo (invincible EX is also only -5). This isn’t even counting his normals, which I don’t know much about.

Law seems like the best tag character in the game. Spin kicks and fist fury rush are both amazing tag moves.

Law’s attacks all lack range and most don’t leave him with enough advantage on block to continue the pressure. His strength comes from baiting and punishing, so in other words his best offense is in his defense.

His best pokes are S.LK, S.MK, S.HK

S.LK and S.MK have a decent range but lose clean to most mid range pokes in the game. S.LK can chain into C.MK or C.MP to make it safe on block, but S.MK should not be chained on block since S.HP/S.HK/C.HP/C.HK are all unsafe. Additionally his S.HK is fully punishable even at maxim range, especially against characters like vega or anyone else with a long reaching quick poke.

His best special normals are his F+MP and his DF+MK. The F+MP is a overhead that moves him forward and can be linked for a combo. It’s fast and covers a good distance and is safe on block. The fact that you can combo from it is easily it’s best feature, however it loses quite often to crouching lights or fast low attacks. His DF+MK is a slide that works similar to rose and DJ’s slide can be used to slip under opponents during their jumps. It’s safe on block from max range with decent frame advantage and It can be linked into on hit, but it doesn’t cover that much ground and loses clean to most mid range normals.

His QCF+P is safe on block but you have to be right next to the opponent so has no range. The EX version can be used as a reversal since it’s invincible for the first few frames but normal version is basically only practical for pressure off a hit confirm. The normal version can be punished on block by vega and grappplers, it also doesn’t have much frame advantage so your not able to continue the pressure unless you use the EX version. Usually its just best to backdash afterwards which leaves you in perfect range to use S.LK/C.LK should they try to move forward. Even if they walk forward and block you can just confirm the QCF+P from the C.LK and repeat the process. I suppose the EX version does give some flexibility in terms of pressure, but the regular version is basically very linear in the pressure options it gives you.

His QCB+K is safe with the LK version but you can’t apply pressure afterwards since you are pushed to far back.

His QCF+K is safe on block and leaves you with great frame advantage. The issue is that it’s easy to alpha counter and it comes slow with terrible range. You can only use it as a effective pressure tool off a hit confirm but from my experience its a bit risky to use it since it’s fairly easy to alpha counter on reaction.

His QCB+P is completely unsafe outside a combo. The only time this special becomes useful in pressure is when you confirm it off a normal and into the overhead variation. It has 3 variations after you do the QCB+P, one attack is a flying kick that passes through projectiles, the other is a punch that crumbles the opponent allowing for a target combo, and the last is a overhead that works identical to the F+MP special normal overhead. The EX version with the punch crumble variation has armor so it can be used as a AA and decent enough bait.

His best target combo is his B+MP>LK>MK and his B+MK>LK>D+MK. The 1st target combo comes out fast and moves him forward so its perfect for punishing whiffed normals or opponents walking forward. It loses clean to most mid reaching normals though so its best to use it as a punishing tool and not so much a footsie weapon. It also cannot be used as a pressure tool since completing it is unsafe so you have to end it off at B+MP>LK to remain safe but with very little frame advantage to continue pressuring. His 2nd target combo hits low towards the end and also has the added benefit of a special cancel property towards the D+MK sweep. It can be used into a fully safe target combo block string but due to it’s length can easily be alpha countered. These 2 target combos are the 2 safe moves he has that moves him forward with relatively fast speed. However they tend to get beaten out quite a bit by most normals so their use is only really practical for punishes as stated before.

His jabs are also considerably slow paced and lack the speed to pressure after any of his safe attacks. I have found that mashing jabs even after his safe specials still result in them getting beaten out by most pokes. In summary his mobility options are mostly all unsafe and his pressure tactics are all limited to extremely close ranged attacks. Coupled with slow ass jabs and generally slow moving normals that lack range or priority, his pressure game basically revolves around hit confirming into a special then backdashing away…in other words his pressure game is shit.

crosses fingers

Well the 2 vs 2 at evo will probably end sfxt to be perfectly honest. It’s quite unfortunate that in the 1 game I decide to grind because of a legitimate interest I have in it,some stupid shit like this goes down. NCR was not a good showing for this game and with all the hate going down for it since it’s release I think this game won’t see a tournament run past evo. I feel like I’ve wasted my time, I mean sure maybe I would never have gotten as good in this game as much as I was in sf4 but I still enjoyed playing it and have a great time working around law’s obvious flaws.

If this becomes a tournament standard I wouldn’t even know who to team with or who’s skills I trust in enough to compete with in a tournament setting:(

I guess you should have made some friends afterall.

I will not kiss ass to make friends!

Besides being banned from canada cup makes me like the CM punk of the scene, the voice of the voiceless and the guy who always keeps it real. At any rate if this 2 vs 2 becomes a tournament standard then I will just pay a little extra at registration so that I can enter in as a single player.

Nah, you’re more like that local wrestler who could never make to the bigs because he lacked talent, charisma and style.

C’mon dude we all know im the Y2J or CM punk of the canadian FGC.

Maybe even a 1 man wolfpac:)

If you’re lucky you could be the Blue Meanie.

Maybe Iron Mike Sharpe.

I am the CM punk of the scene and what to know why?

Remember my anti-pill popper shoot last year on the sask thread…well check this out:)

I swear it’s like he took the words right outta my mouth!

Edit: Skip 5:20 for the ric promo!

This is far more accurate in relation to you.

Let’s see…

Thinks he’s the best - Yup
Making excuses - Yup
Calling out wrestlers/players far better than him - Yup
Gets cut off/banned at the end of the video - Yup

Nah he doesn’t have my swag.

Not to mention punk calls himself the best in the world and was banned from the WWE for a few months for keeping it real…even his feud with cena was identical like my feud with calgary. The best part…HE SHAVED HIS HEAD TOO!
