Please explain how your overall attitude of local players being free and basically acting like you are doing them a favor by letting them play you is going to attract new players to your local scene.
Probably why you’re scared to play marvel cause even locally you’ll be just another player and not some goofball who expects to be worshipped.
Better find a venue first before you start hyping all this shit up like you have for the last 1.5 years.

Because what you do in a online forum when you’re bored and want to kill time is quite a difference from how you act and treat people in person when you’re serious and want to build a community.
Ill play marvel locally, not really a issue for me.
It takes time to find a venue that can meet the needs of a entire gaming community, but like I said if AE comes to PC that would be a real blessing for our scene. As for the restarting the scene, yeah why wouldnt I want to try and build a community. If im not happy over how something is going im going to try and do something to improve it and this “scene” is no exception.
Anyways a flood of new MK9 footage just arrived and damn the game is looking better with every new video. I was also reading over a post from a respected MK player on his time with the game and it really put a lot of my initial fears to rest. The one thing that really stood out to me was when he said MK9 is essentially a fusion of MK2 and SF4, with the exception that MK9 is very fast. I cant wait till the demo comes out, I didnt catch when its supposed to be released but hopefully sometime soon.

I’m pretty new to this thread. I’ve read it and laughed but rarely posted. But this line of yours Evo really struck me. You want to start a scene up for fighting games but yet you alienate and bash games people wanna play. You alienate yourself by calling people out for being scrubby and will never be as good as you. You hand out backhanded comments left and right. You say that this thread here is for people to stay in touch and contact each other. So if this is your first point of contact with new players and your main source of contact for everyone else… what makes you think they wanna be around a guy like you? Look skill and organization are things a scene might need but the most important thing is whether you can be around the people for long sessions. If Norman approached me like this on forums and then asked me to come out to play I would of straight up given him the finger and told him to go bleep himself. What you do in these online forums is a representation of yourself and this scene you want to build whether you believe it or not. I’ve never met you in person I don’t think and I definitely know I don’t want to spend more than 5 mins in the same room with you let alone 4 hour sessions. So rethink and reinvent yourself buddy. It’s embarrassing all of us here in Sask.

Its only a matter of time, and besides talking about a scene might spark some interest considering we dont have anything.
I could have spent a more time over the game and got good at it but I made a choice to main MK9 instead, looks more promising.

I was called out on the whole scene issue so I wrote a novel finally addressing it…
The biggest reason I keep mentioning the idea of creating a scene is because I know we have players that want one and because I know that the situation isn’t completely helpless. With just a little effort and organization we can make something rather respectable and possibly even?decent?. Thats why I’m as persistent on this whole issue as I am and why im so critical over the current situation with the scene. Now sure people can call me a asshole over my criticisms or condemn my attitude over the local community , but I stand by everything ive said because ultimately every point ive ever made right down to the last detail is true even if I go about saying it in a very arrogant way.
Just take a look at the thread on TTF’s about the absence of events as a example in case you think im being too harsh. Although IMO its a real blessing in disguise because now the scene might actually have a chance to develop and go somewhere. However before we move on there are a few note worthy lines in that thread that I found just too comical to resist. In particular something about? being too busy with school?and shit like?oh its not WORTH my time to do it every week if theres no benefit to me and blah blah?. Now I cant think of anything else that illustrates my points more profoundly then these remarks because they perfectly illustrate why our scene is in this decaying stage and why it has continued to do so for so long…and ill explain why.
First off the quantity of gatherings isn’t what makes or breaks a scene, its over the quality of the gatherings. The majority of us are all busy people with busy lives, whether its with school,friends,work or whatever. However this isn’t to say that because were all busy people that we cant make these few gatherings mean something or at least follow some direction or structure. For example, I’ve been to a few developed and thriving communities in the past year and the majority of the organizers in these communities are all extremely busy people. They aren’t some punk kids with nothing better to do or some underachievers twirling there thumbs in school studying for job they cant handle.These guys have careers,families,full time jobs or extremely demanding academic pursuits. However they have all managed to take the few hours they can afford in the week and developed these strong competitive communities that do see progress and growth.
Secondly a community isn’t a favor or some privilege someone bestows upon the rest of us, its suppose to be something fun that can be enjoyed by everyone regardless if we appease a few choice people or not. After all you should only be involved with a community because its a legitimate hobby so unless you’re not involved for the right reasons it should always be?worth you’re time?, so for me this lame attitude tied with the whole ?time constraint?excuse is just simply that…a excuse.What it really comes down to is how the limited time we do have is being spent which essentially boils down to how the events are being organized and who is handling them. With that said it never made sense to me why we had a admitted none gamer with no interest in the community beyond its social implications organizing the events, especially when you consider the fact that this so called ?organizer? was in all sincerity nothing more then just a mouth piece for a single player. Wouldn’t it have made more sense to develop a community that represents the collective sum of it’s player base…like a community made by the players for the players cause otherwise who else is going to know what the players want and need and how to do right by the scene. Therefore it should come as no surprise to anyone over the recent development of things…like If you have events being haphazardly thrown together with no motive or incentive behind them coupled with a enclosed venue that is accessible by invite only with a very narrow expanse that’s host can freely flake on in a seconds notice…then what else can you really expect lol. Theres a reason why other communities don’t depend on players homes as a scene HQ, and space limitations and capricious dispositions are the main leading causes.
Granted I’ve been pointing this all out for months but I’m always just accused of having some ulterior motive or some?agenda?in the the works but hopefully now people can start to realize that what I was saying was true all along. Anyhow lets turn the page on this dark chapter and move forward to bigger and badder things…its a new dawn and its a new day.

Anyways as for MK9…well MK9 is being developed for the competitive community and the franchise has historically sold well. In fact its easily one of the biggest iconic series in gaming so why wouldn’t I think its going to be the next big thing. It has the brand name, the depth and its fans so going by that I dont see how it can possibly just be a flash in the pan.
alright it has the brand name, does it have the depth? No only MK3 had depth. The games later were fun but never had depth, i finnaly gave up completly once MK VS DC came out, in which boon worked on, Boons still working on MK9. Am pretty sure MK VS DC sold VERY well, was that a good game? No it was dreadful, i couldn’t even buy it.
Plus from what i heard, MK9 was actually kind of paid into being in the EVO lineup, it wasint chosen because of said depth, the game was locked in for evo what like how fucking long ago, a guy from midway leaked that it was in the lineup like 6 months ago somthing like that. So thats why.
Theres like only 3 possible things that will happen with MK9.
1: It will try to be way to much like SF4 yet its still MK9 so not nearly as much balance (mk was NEVER good with balance) and depth, so why even play it.
2: It will do extremely well but not in the competitive community.
3: Or it will be unique enough and be its own game and hopfully be as good as MK3 which will still have a strong cult following of competitive players.
Thats it, i dont see it blowing up and being at evo every year.
MK9 is being described as a fusion of MK2 and SF4, and with ex moves,dash cancels, the juggle system,combo breakers i doubt the game will be even close to the the 3D MK titles. Not to mention the game was play tested by tournament level play testers, and like I’ve mentioned before the game is build around the concept of zoning,footsies and controlling space…its not just mindless rush downs with triangle jumps,spam happy assist and supers and specials that can KO chip from full screen…

Most games on the evo lineup are determined by popularity, smash brothers brawl was included after all and so are games like mvc3…in short sometimes games on the evo lineup don’t deserve to be there.

SF4 is hardly a good case for balance and when you have games like MVC3 in the mix, the balance argument doesn’t matter anymore lol.
Don’t see why it wouldn’t, MK is equally as popular as SF and if the game has the same depth then why wouldn’t it…
UMK3 will probably still be a better game in the same way that SF2 and SF3 are better games then sF4, and if SF4 can make it big in the competitive community then any game can lol.
I think it will be, it will be a popular choice for the casual market but have also have enough competitive merits for the high level players.

Trust me im not the attention starved one here, and Ive made like a good 10+ offers about meeting up at the university and just simply playing the games as you said. Also I lead the hate crusade because the venue sucked ass and was running the scene into the ground lol…and now a year later look whats happened:wow:
