I believe I saw Ric walking around on Saturday/Sunday, but for some reason he didn’t sign up for the 3rd Strike tournament despite there being open space as late as Saturday night. He also (I believe) had a chance to enter the pre-qualifiers tournament for a chance to be on Team Canada, but I’m guessing he wasn’t at the venue on Friday night. I don’t know the stories behind these, though, so this is just a bit of hands-on journalism rather than an opinion piece.
The person who ran Ric’s pool said he went 2-2 with a few byes thrown in. I forget which killers were in Ric’s pool (every pool had at least 2 international killers; for example, Jamie’s pool had Leslie and JWong in it, my pool had Air and ZZangmoo), but I don’t believe he drew any of them. Of course, lots of players were strong in this event, you didn’t need to play a killer to lose to a good player.
Also, I believe NormanJr911 was the person I played in the 3rd Strike tournament. Congrats on beating Neurosis! The match we played was really close and could have easily gone either way.
I think I got a little lucky on that read, since if you delay it even like 20 frames then I have to try and parry it in the air and I probably lose. Definitely a nailbiting finish though! I immediately lost to Cynistar after that, lol. Would have liked to get some casuals in with you, but it was tough to find setups throughout the day. :\
I’m not sure how rik did in the event, but I know I gave him a bye first round in his bracket, and also top seed right below the internationals. I heard he then got 2 or three byes in the losers bracket as well ? (Opponents not showing up and getting DQ’d I guess? I dunno) So even if he did lose 0-2 (again, I dunno), he would still get to pool semis… In other words, not dead last.
Meh, whatever. I know I saw him playing casuals with Javiera/Cynistar (the good Akuma who eliminated Mike Ross!) and Rik was up 3-0, I thought that was pretty cool.
Hey contra this is ric, im using my friends account so plz dont ban him. Im only going to respond now since a big tournament just happened and I have a lot to say. Dont worry I wont use this account beyond just this post and I plan to wait till next year when my ban is lifted.
Anyways the event was great and I was really impressed by teamn canada, especially brian who I felt really improved since the last time I saw him. I had a good time and I was able to connect with the community again. I wish I had gone to the after party but it was already pretty late, but ouside that I enjoyed as much of the event as possible.
I was out of practice and not prepared at all so im not shocked or anything since I kind of expected it to happen this way. The dudes I lost to are not top players I think but they seemed pretty good, and sure I think I could have gave them a better fight but meh…too late now:(. I played terribly for the most part and I didnt have confidence in my game at all. Outisde losing to wolfkrone 10-3 and my set with that good akuma player I didnt get any games in, but at the same time its for the best cause I wouldnt want to fight these top dudes under my current performance…I even backed out of MM’s with air ha.
This event got my passion back for the game though. Ive been performing terribly with every tournament that passes and I need a change to get my focus back in the game. I think seeing jamie and brian rocking unique characters makes me want to change my main and focus on someone I have fun with as oppose to someone who is easy to win with. I still have the issue of not having exposure to good players or training partners, but im hoping when I get my new connection(its suppose to be 2X better then shaw warp) ill be able to level up enough in time for tournaments next year. On that note im maining dan from now on and my goal is to be the best dan player in canada. Im gonna grind in ranked matches,endless battles and any tournament/casual matches I can get and will use only him. I dont care if I lose my 1st 1000 matches or never take a round of good players, but its a new goal I have set in mind in this game and its one I look forward to…for the first time in awhile Im actually excited about SF4 again and hopefully I can make a good run of dan. Fei was fun for awhile but I wasnt drawn to him like I was in SF2. Dan is the troll of the series and a terrible character so pulling wins with him will be a true test and point of motivation for me. If anyone wants to fight me add me"Evo Is Rik" and lets see how my far my new main can go:)
Infil: I didnt enter 3s cause I wanted to get out a bit on sunday and just shop around a bit. I could have entered the friday qualifer tournament but I didnt feel I was ready. At the rate im playing in right now, even if I did get past everyone in that tournament I wouldnt have been a good choice regardless. I think the right people made it on the team so I was cool with it. This was probably the 1st tournament ive been too where I didnt have any intention to compete and do well in unlike last year at CC. I think maining dan and trying to get as good with him as possible will give me a incentive to continue playing and most importantly a reason to improve. If I should ever come back to fei in the future it will be with a completely different approach then what I have now.
Fucks sake dans not even The worst character in this game and hasn’t been since Vanilla. He’s a troll character sure but there’s a good half dozen of those. GL ric nobody plays Dan and it’d be cool to see just stop saying he’s the worst.
Good to see your back playing though, hell after CC it made me go back and play some SSf4.

On this note I would just like to say I will be rebooting my retirement from the scene while I switch to a new main and play every day, as Gouki. Everyone knows gouki is the worst character in street fighter history. In Super turbo they didn’t even put him on the char select screen FFS. I’ve seen a lot of videos from SF42012 edition and in my opinion Gouki is going to have no good matchups. I would like to state that the reason I’m doing this is because I got tired of playing high tier because its so boring winning everything all the time, and DEFINITELY NOT because I ran out of excuses for why I’m losing. However I would like to qualify that statement by saying that if I do lose it is simply because you are all terrible at this game and couldn’t help me reach my full potential, and also that I love and respect you all, because I am the most humble person you’ll ever meet.
I’ll see you all in a year. I won’t post at all in that time because I respect the mods here.
PS: I have several friends who I’ve been talking to about this site and will probably be joining soon. You might think they talk like me but thats just because we hang out all the time and are best friends. Don’t be too hard on them if they talk me up a lot, they kind of see me as a Deity in street fighter and real life because I’ve taken them under my wing.
Like Geeze Am pretty sure Mago Diago and Tokido they didnt even put Dan in there bottom 10. I have no idea why am letting this bug me, i hate people who pick mid to low as a cop out and when they lose they say, it was my character, grow up.
I’ve played alot of games where my character had like 7-3s and 8-2s i lost i just took it like a man, you should to Ric. Almost every character is viable in this game, and in 2012 that will be even more so. The more i think about the more i think how lucky we are with SF4.
Then again even with Di3mini0n saying Guile Fei was 6-4 in Feis favor you still said thats impossible, even though Di3 knows far more.

@ Losha: Would love to be able to play some SF casually (3S! 3S! 3S!), but since Dustin and Allison put hosting on hold there hasn’t been a whole lot of opportunity. I’m also disinclined to subject myself to certain personalities. I have to say, though, watching Canada Cup this weekend really made me want to get together with a few people and play.
