Saskatchewan Players The Time Is Now!

I’m about a 2 hour drive away, but I really would like to make the trip out for the monthly tourny, if not this time then next for sure.

Definately considering moving somewhere soon, so Saskatoon would be an awesome choice with a good SF4 scene :smiley:

You could also try comic book stores and hmv all sorts of places. doesn’t need to be one location, even try at collages and universality. if anything you’d get a few people interested.

maybe a some kind of website? Saskatchewangamers? lol never know maaan

Hello from Winnipeg. I just wanted to mention the upcoming Central Canada Comic Con, taking place at the Winnipeg Convention Center Oct-30th till Nov-1st.

We’re having a huge Street Fighter Four Tournamet as well as a bunch of other Video Game related stuff.

www.cccomiccon.com for all the details :china:

All of the interest is very promising and a pleasent surprise, we’ll get a better sense of the scene after this saturday but by the look of things it seems like good news. We got excellent SF4 players in town, eldon and jonas are easily the 2 best SF4 players followed by me and choa plus we got a lot of guys steadily improving. Scenes take time to build but I’m confident without effort and time we can get something good going in the near future.

Now just to let everyone know, I’m free every weekend so if any guys want some games just hit me up. I’m also on SF4 most of the time so feel free to add me on ur XBL for some online games as well…alright hope to see u guys on sat.

does Dorian still play?

Yeah, he was over at my place a week ago. He works on weekends most of the time but I’m hoping he will show eventually.

I had a small cluster of friends at the HighTech tourny (we fared poorly); if we can turn competitions into a monthly thing I know at least my roommate and I would make an effort to attend.

And yeah, we both had a lot of fun, even though we ended up playing each other first round of the elimination; something about pulling off a sneaky Ultra and having a whole room of people go “Oooo” really gets the blood flowing. Most of our close-knit group won’t take the time to learn the game so we get bored playing each other so often. Would be fun to have a steady scene.

Yeah for sure man, if u guys can make it to the weekly sat gatherings that would be cool too. We can always get online or casuals whenever as well, like I’ve said before I’m very hopful that we will build a strong scene.

Any confirmation on how many setups there will be? As I said earlier Rick, I can bring a moniter and possibly my 360.

^^^^
Yeah, how many setups?

Evo, will there be PS3 there this Saturday?

There should be around 7 set-ups if everything goes well.

I’ll see everyone tomorrow.

Evo,

Just remember my suggestions for next week. They should help with the organization.

Also, I think it would be a good idea to have everything clear from the get-go:
-What game’s being played (the focus);
-A person to head the match-ups, with someone to assist if they’re currently in one;
-What rules the game is being played under (# of rounds per match, # of matches, must stay the same character, etc);
-Consistency. Keep all agreed rules the same throughout all future gaming tournaments and casuals, like Smash has set.
-A forum/website/e-mail group/some way of mass communicating between members should be set up so everyone’s on the same page before the meet-up.

Overall it was a good turn out. Just clean up the rough spots and it should be even better next week/go-around.

Cudos for putting this together from the Hi-Tech tourny, Evo!

If everyone’s up for it, we could have a group on Facebook. It’d help a lot.

Anyway, I agree with all your suggestions. I figured it was fairly clear that SFIV was the main attraction, though.

I would go for that. I’m already on FaceBook anyway. It’s a good suggestion. :slight_smile:

Sometimes the games will change (at least that was my understanding from the initial idea), which is why I added it there. Also, people may want to have another station set up for alternative games to play (maybe BlazBlu or SF3 or whatever).

Don’t worry, we will be far more organized next time so dont worry. Evan has made a new facebook group so it should all work now.

After talking it over with some of the guys it seems like we will have to split the scene into 2 groups. 1 side will represent PS3 players and the other side will represent 360 players, this is the roster for each scene so far:

PS3:

Rick
Jonas
Eldon
Curtis
Hyan
Nate
Colin
Chester

-The PS3 scene will host a casual tournament every 2 weeks at either Curtis/Hyan’s house and host money tournaments with entry fee’s every 2 months at either location.

360:

Rick
Ozzy
Evan
Nate
Dustin
Zaya
Luke
Josh

-The 360 scene will host weekly casual tournaments at either Rick/Ozzy/Nate/Evan’s house and host monthly money tournaments with entry fee’s at said location’s.

At this point in time, it is unknown if either scene will unite for any future tournies. For the time being, this will be the arangment we will have set for our scene. Thanks guys as always for making this all possible and let’s keep the scene growing and going.

Edit:

The weekly 360 scene will meet up every saturday from 3:00pm-9:00pm, the PS3 scene will meet up every 2nd saturday from 5pm-9pm.

Just brainstorming things with Evo… 360 “pairing”/match-ups could follow something more interesting for the smaller group. The proposed format:

I like things a bit more random to maintain interest, so…

All names in a hat/whatever.
Match 1: 1st pairing drawn from the hat.
Match 2: Winner stays on, opponent drawn from hat.
Match 3: Winner stays on, opponent drawn from hat. If the same winner, must pass on.
If at any time the standing “winner” is defeated, return to Match 2.

This has several benefits to an ordinary round robin set-up:

  1. It keeps people interested. If people sit out for a large period of time, interest level often dies (same goes for being eliminated early in a tournament).
  2. It keeps people playing. This means it is entirely possible for the same person to get matched up much faster than in a tournament setting. Also the maximum potential for matches is higher on a per-participant basis.
  3. It allows for rotation of players through the roster at different intervals (so the matchups aren’t always in the same order). What this means is each time everyone gathers, it won’t end up the same match-up order or the same top player(s) against one-another. So Player A may match up against Player C, D, F, B one day, and then the next it will be different.
  4. It ensures that no one can “dominate” a controller for infinite victories. We all know that people can get on a roll and end up being the “king of the castle”.
  5. It ensures all players should be matched amongst all over the duration of play. Similar to the idea of a round robin, this rotation provides the ability for all players to be matched up over a day, especially with a smaller number of participants. (1 in 5 chance currently for you to be up with one setup).

Great idea oz, its perfect for the 360 scene.

To break down the above idea in a visual manner.

BEGIN WALL OF TEXT

I will assume the following:
-All seven (7) 360 players are in attendance;
-Everyone has their preferred controller/stick and/or each console has 2 controllers available;

One Setup
Names in the hat: Seven (7) (Players A, B, C, D, E, F, G respectively);
**Names drawn for round 1: **
-Two (2);
-Player B, Player D;
**Result for Round 1: **
-Player D wins and stays on for Match 2;
-One (1) new name is drawn from the hat: Player A;
-Player B’s name stays out of the hat so they do not get matched again on this winning streak.
Result for Round 2:
-Player D wins and stays on for Match 3;
-One (1) new name is drawn from the hat: Player G;
-Player A’s name stays out of the hat so they do not get matched again on this winning streak.
-Player B’s name stays out of the hat so they do not get matched again on this winning streak.
**Result for Round 3: **
-Player D wins and must pass on the controller to a new player.
-One (1) new name is drawn to replace Player D: Player F;
-Player D’s name stays out of the hat so they do not get matched again initially on the new set of pairings (allows for full rotation of players)
-Player A, Player B and Player G’s names are placed back in the hat.
-One (1) new name is drawn from the hat: Player A;
Essentially, this just resets it back to Match 1, except one (1) player is not viable for the initial pairing.
Result for Round 4:
-Player A wins and stays on for Match 2;
-Player F’s name staysout of the hat so they do not get matched again on this winning streak;
-One (1) new name is drawn to replace Player F: Player E;
Result for Round 5:
-Player E wins and stays on for Match 2;
Essentially, this resets it back to Match 2 but with a new “winner”.
-Player A’s name stays out of the hat so they do not get matched again on this winning streak.
-Player F’s name is placed back into the hat.

That outlines a 3-match-winner and a 1-match-winner scenario to cover the overall flow.

Two Setups
Names in the hat: Seven (7) (Players A, B, C, D, E, F, G respectively);
**Names drawn for round 1: **
-Four (4), two (2) per console;
-Player B vs Player D and Player A vs Player E;
**Result for Round 1: **
-Players D and A win and stay on their console for Match 2;
-Two (2) new names are drawn from the hat: Player C and Player G;
-Players B and E’s names stay out of the hat so they do not get matched again on this winning streak.
Result for Round 2:
-Players D and A win and stay on their console for Match 3;
-Players C and G’s names stay out of the hat so they do not get matched again on this winning streak.
-Since only one (1) name remains in the hat, that name is paired against the match that finished first: Player F;
-Whichever player between B and E that did not match against the remaining game is then paired with that player (the longer of the two matches with players D and A as winners);
Results for Round 3:
-Players D and A win. They must pass on their controllers to new players.
-Players D and A’s names stay out of the hat to avoid re-pairing in the initial match-up after their pass on.
-All other names are replaced in the hat and matches are determined by picking from that pool (five (5) potential participants at this point): Player B vs C and Player E vs F;
Essentially, this just resets it back to Match 1, except two (2) players are not viable for the initial pairing.
Result for Round 4:
-Players B and E won and stay on for Match 2;
-Player C and Player F’s names stay out of the hat so they do not get matched again on this winning streak;
-Player D and Player A’s names go back in the hat.
-Two (2) new names are drawn to replace Player C and Player F: Player A and Player G;
Result for Round 5:
-Player G and Player A win and stay on for Match 2;
Essentially, this resets it back to Match 2 but with a new “winner” for each console.
-Player B and Player E’s names stays out of the hat so they do not get matched again on this winning streak.
-Player C and Player F’s names are placed back into the hat.

etc, etc… Two consoles seems pretty ideal for 7 people. Minimal people sitting out, decent match-up rate, and gives time to socialize, watch and judge!
