So guys Im going to be having a online set agaisnt Jwong very soon, a first to ten with his rufus agaisnt my fei. Ill be uploading the replays under"The Embrio vs Jwong"so be sure to check them out if you get the chance.

Cool story bro!

u mad bro?

This is from another a forum, so it will seem out of context at first, but the good stuff is in its delicious cookie core.

I was actually just at High Tech this weekend very briefly, and I did notice that your game room was full. When I looked inside, I saw that each of the set-ups were being used, playing MW2. With a game like that, I can easily see how the game room would be full for the most part (7 Set-ups, 7 people). 1 person per setup, therefore justifyingly charging a person $9 (?) an hour because they’re playing the whole time, so I can understand how these people feel like they’re getting their money’s worth.

My personal opinion (and I’m sure others feel the same way) when it comes to games like Street Fighter are quite different in regards to games like HALO and MW2. Sure, there are 7 setups, meaning 14 people can play at once. However, chances are not all the setups are going to be used at once or even at all during the whole night.

Sometimes during the weekly gatherings, I will play the game very seldomly the whole night. Not because there were a lack of setups (generally had 8 people, with 2 to 3 setups), but because the entertainment for the night doesn’t come strictly from playing the video game. Those nights, I’m just content with watching others play. Most importantly though, is the comraderie of the other players.

I know that you could make the same arguements regarding other games like HALO and CoD (I’d rather play these games than watch others play). However, looking at how the current community works, what Ric and High Tech are proposing to do is (like Ozzy said) equivalent to Allison charging us money to come over. Charging people $10 a night for the same experience is why it seems so absurd.

The more I think about it , the more it starts sounding like a bad idea both for High Tech and the community. High Tech won’t get the revenue they would normally receive by opening it up to the public and the community won’t see any growth because the price is holding the players back. Using High Tech for tournaments is a great idea for exposing the scene to the city, but in order to maintain the scene, Ric needs another alternative because many people aren’t willing to pay to play for an extended period of time.

YawnX, if you read the SRK post, you’ll see that it’s not just us Saskatoon players that find the price absurd, but players from all over the country. Also, when High Tech rents out the room, do they normally charge per person or per setup?

You’re in Saskatoon? If so, how did you manage to get a location at the University?

is this the same guy who had a hi tech gaming center in Edmonton? it didn’t do well at all because no one wanted to pay the 10 bucks to play a game they already have. No one went at all. The owner was also super pushy which turned everyone off.

I think the owners name was Mel

He makes a good argument but I will just have to respectfully disagree. I think my remarks over the previous venue are justified and I would argue that the experience provided by both venue’s are very different. As I was saying before, the exposure and expansion of the community was limited and the atmoshpere was not ideal for a competitive gaming community or at least the kind of community that I would like. From what I’ve been told by the guys at hi-tech the store has never hosted a community before so it’s complete speculation if the new scene will do good or not do good. I personally believe that it will, but I can understand that some players might have there reservations.

In my case, I just was not satisfied with the arrangement of the old community. The competition wasn’t improving my game and I just didn’t feel that any of the fights had any real motive or point. I didn’t see the old community moving forward towards something worth while so I lost interest. This isn’t to say that it was terrible, I can understand why some players had a good time but it just wasn’t the venue for a player like me. It’s my hope that this new community will appeal to a a number of players taste and hopefully be a bit more alluring for players such as myself. After my trip to winnipeg I saw the community I had always wanted and it really motivated me into attempting something similar on my own. If it works out then great, but if it doesn’t become the community I had envisioned then I would just simply have to continue trying elsewhere.

MJC: Nah man its a different owner, Bob is his name.

Chao: They use the education building, we tried awhile ago but it didnt work out so well lol.

What are you talking about? The education building worked great. You were supposed to supply screens but never did even though you said you would take care of it. So quit with all this shit talking. As this thread has pointed out, you are one big liar who when asked to elaborate on something, just says the exact thing with maybe one different word.

You didn’t lose interest in the community, you’re fucking mother came over to Allison’s place to tell her not to allow you into her place, and to stop talking to you, because you were clearly obsessing over her when she broke up with you and would leave her messages calling her stupid every five minutes. Everyone here knows about those, THERE IS A FUCKING 10 MINUTE AUDIO FILE OF IT. Quit with all this “I’m better then everyone else”, “I know what is right for the community” bullshit, and go eat a dick you ignorant insecure homophobe.

Edit: IT’S ACTUALLY 18 MINUTES

It’s probably already been done, but I’d like to extend another invitation to all the Saskatchewan players to the Canada Cup in Calgary.

We were hoping to make this one of the premiere events in Canada, but it’s blown up beyond anything we could have expected in the last few days. As you know, Mike Ross, Team Spooky and JWong have already confirmed that they will be attending. We also have other things in the works (can’t divulge too much, but if it does happen, it will be absolutely amazing). Also, there is, of course, a pretty huge pot which will only grow as more people decide to attend.

I’ve played Embrio a good few times online so I know you guys have a good scene, even if you tend to downplay its size.

So pile into a car and try to make it out. The Calgary crew has a reputation for being very hospitable and we promise you’ll have a great time. You can even check out the local watering hole where we gather to play SF4 every week.

When are you going to get a chance to play top players without having to travel huge distances?

I am strongly considering going to this. If I can find a ride…

Hi-Tech gave me and my brother a bunch of shitty SF4 action figures and a free game for 1st and 2nd. The entry fee was $15 piece, so essentially I was forced to buy 2 shitty action figures (with a supposed price tag of $22.99) for $15. Everyone else that joined the tournament was essentially forced to buy my brother 6 shitty action figures and a free game.

So between the two of us, it cost us $30 to get a bunch of shitty action figures and a free game as opposed to $300 cash prize (20 ppl x $15 entry). While Hi-Tech made $300 in sales and got rid of unsellable inventory.

Thoughtbird, I’m proud of your choice in verbage.

^^^

Wrong! The reason the community has small numbers is because we live in a SMALL COMMUNITY!!! You really think there’s a bunch hidden SSF4 players in Saskatoon that have just yet to show their faces? I think the people you’ve been playing with this whole time are as hardcore as Saskatoon can provide when it comes to fighting games.

A year ago when entry fees were $15 and SF4 was fresh, you got 20 people…Now you’re tacking on a $30/month charge + $25 tournament fee and you’re expecting growth? That’s a phone bill or a new game I’m paying…and for what? Stat tracking by Hi-Tech? Give me $55/head, I’ll track your stats! I could probably even get Gootecks and Mike Ross to do a commentary on your matches if I threw some of that dough their way.

QFMFT
and lulz. <3

I love this thread!

Is that really nessasary dude? To bring up my past relationship with a girl and use that as some ammunition to hurt me?

I said some stupid shit I can admit that. what man doesn’t hurt liek that when he is in love with someone and feels heartbroken. Some guys just want to make people feel that same pain they feel

Wow…I just moved to Saskatoon from Chicago hoping to join a quality gaming community, but this is crazy. I’m reluctant to join the scene with all this drama and especially if there’s not going to be a cash prize (from what EldonMa wrote). Also, why is Evo claiming to be the best if he didn’t even finish top 2 in the last tournament? Someone has to be lying…Maybe I’ll stick to playing online with some friends back home until you guys get everything sorted out.

Wow.

This thread is solid entertainment! Consistently delivering the lolz.

…it does make S’toon look like a gong show, though.

The hi-tech tourny were I got 3rd was almost a year ago when I had just picked the game up and switched from HDR 2 weeks beforehand. Since that time, Ive won all the local tournies we hosted, got 5th at a edmonton single tournament(beating most of the top 5 in money matches later that day) and 2nd at the same tournaments but in doubles. 1st in the singles and doubles at TST5 and just generally dominating with amazing winning streaks agaisnt all the local players…so yeah thats why I call myself the best player. Dont worry mate, no more drama as I finished up the drama in the post above.

Okay…but I’m still not going to pay $25 to enter a tournament to win a non-cash prize…and no offense, but you kind of seem like an asshole to the other posters…
