Stop coming in here Mr. I’m going to San Rafael
So someone is donating money for a prize pot, but this is a fundraiser toward beer money and… man headache.
Man, people taking tournies for granted lately =P.
SJSU - good shit for being respectful in your responses and willing to get the facts out straight. That’s unfortunately a very rare occurrence. However, as far as SRK forums are concerned, nowadays tournies are a dime a dozen. High entries+high cuts typically don’t get a good reception here.
That said, I hope you get a ton of local support.
Jack, you’re my boy and all, but for me, the “dime-a-dozen” wasn’t my main concern.
For me, it’s just the fact the he didn’t disclose any information on here, which seemed really shady. I personally don’t give a damn if he took the charity money for himself and used it on beer and strippers.
I just don’t like how it initially began as “fundraiser, fundraiser, FUNDRAISER” and he kept ducking questions. That was what I felt was shady. Now that everything is clear and in the open, I might come.
He shouldn’t try to hide information. I would’ve came if he had told me “$5 of the entry per person goes towards my frat party” rather than, “Umm… I can’t tell you anything except it’s for a FUNDRAISER.”
At the same time: You do make a very good point at people taking tourneys for granted, since theyaren’t what you would say a commodity. So props to SJSU for organizing this and dealing with my assholeness as well as others and finally answering questions.
people have to realize its a pain to setup a tournament… I remember setting up tournaments in san jose at euphnet for warcraft 3 and people signing up, we expect paying out a decent prize pool and then word gets around 1-2 powerhouse teams will be there and everyone bails. Then we were stuck with paying out X amount of money when we didn’t even make half of that back, and ended up in the negative.
Masarap vs Crackfiend GRUDGE FONEY MATCH. Live streamed at NCR.
Props to Willpower for dropping 2 bills. Also thank you to SJSU for clearing everything up finally. It is greatly appreciated. I’m assuming this is the first tournament you will be running. Try to take everyone’s concerns as a learning experience for your future tournaments so there won’t be any confusion later on. I’ll try to see if any Davis cats want to drive down there for this. We want to keep the trend of cock blocking Anthony from placing in tournaments.
…Maybe we should just make sure brother comes… OOOOoooOOooH!
@Daniel: Shut yo trap, ima rig yo brackets next time.
@Mike: You’re such a whore.
Edit: @SJSU - Since this is a fundraiser event, I honestly feel as if Willpower shouldn’t have to put in $200 extra dollars. I think it should remain the way it is.
Look at it this way, I went to the San Mateo tournament, which was 20 bucks a pop, I got no money back, about 40+ heads showed up, but I knew my money was going to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, which to me, is a very good cause and I’d do it again in a heartbeat.
what the hell…
where did willy powers get money from?!
he shouldnt have to donate 200 bucks if it is for fundraiser… that defeats the purpose.
Your frat doesnt sound like a “party” frat so w/e. Good luck with your tournament.
I agree…$200 donation is a little over the top o.o the stick and the prize monies should be just fine
Albert and Anthony, this is Will posting.
First off, apologies to Albert for not coming to keystone last Friday. You know I got love for you guys. I will definitely try to make it out this week (if you’re still hosting).
Anthony, if you’re coming, please try to get your friends to attend. I know you’re very active and connected in the SF4 scene.
I honestly just want a good turnout for this event which is why I’m willing to throw down 2 bills. To clarify things, a percentage of the funds for this tournament is going towards the requirement the pledges must meet for the fraternity (which is $2k). This is just another fundraiser that’s being done to meet the requirement.
As an active person in the gaming community, I would really appreciate it if you guys attended this event. I will be at this event to witness who ends up taking my monies. Then we should run it back for 2 bills in Tekken.
Oh btw, I’m in need of a stick so if you place 1st and don’t want it, give me the stick! =]
If you say so buddy, I’ll ditch San Rafael for this one. I’ll grab my brother and a bunch of other lovely assholes to come.

willpower sold his mangina for money. majority of that 200 is from me.

SJSU, you still haven’t cleared up exactly how much you are expecting to take from the pot. you gave a rough estimate of “50%” but you said it will depend on the # of entrants. what is that number?
if 2 people showed up, will you take 100% of the fee? if 1000 people showed up, will you still take 50%?
if you are expecting to cut 50%, then just come out and say 50% and leave it at that.
if you are expecting to raise 500$, then just say "we will take 50% of entry fee up to 500, and rest will all go to the pot"
if you are just waiting until the day of the tournament to make this decision, then it’s some shady shit.
- SJSU, you still haven’t clarified anything on the actual tournament itself. is this single match? 2/3 rounds? double elimination? will it have multiple setups? will the tvs be lagless? how big is the room?
while everyone is focusing on this prize/pot issue, the bigger issue of course will be on the quality of the tournament itself if you want serious gamers to attend.
i hope everything gets cleared up. i for one would love to attend this tournament as it’s a week before NCR and i’d like to get some practice in, but it will definitely depend on the specifications.
thanks!
I will only come to this if Anthony agrees to go on a mandate with me for pregame lunch and LB agrees to go on a mandate dinner + movie.
Let me know
fu LB is mine
hi hyung hyung
willpower posting:
-
Lb is gay and needs to stop changing apartments. P.S, I did not sell my mangina.
-
Sean, you better come to this! I haven’t seen you since your bday…
-
They are taking 50%.
-
I informed them of official tournament rules. This will be like any other tournament. Double elim 2/3 up until grand finals which is 3/5. You know the rules.
-
Don’t forget your stick (PS3 only).
-
1st place needs to give willpower the grand prize stick.
And to clarify once again, sorry for the confusion.
The organization will be taking 50% no matter the amount of people. I guess it was too confusing to keep associating that with “it will be dependent on the # of entrants.” That last part was referring to the amount that the placers would receive.
And thanks for understanding guys, this is our first tournament and I will definitely take this a strong learning experience on how to clearly relay information. Our future tournaments will be a lot smoother.
As for the room, we are expecting about 6 or more stations/set ups. We have a few HDTVs and a few regular tvs. We have two rooms that are adjacent to one another. There is a main room and a secondary room and both are fairly big with enough room to maneuver and spectate if you want. To those who live on campus or are familiar with it, its being held in the Pacifica(main) and Ohlone(secondary) rooms.
Thanks again for the feedback. It really is appreciated.
And, I have to say, the stick looks pretty sexy…
im definitely going to this tourney. its near my area so im down to go since i havent been to a tourney in the longest time. I know for sure im not gonna win, but i still love to compete to see how far my skills have come. Big props to SJSU for throwing this tourney, seems like a lot of work but im glad they stuck with it.
SJSU, I’m all for HDTV’s and personally have no problems playing on them, but some people say they lag a bit on SF4. CRT’s are usually better with only some LCDs working lagfree.
I’m not sure on the specifics as I don’t have problems playing on any HDTV personally
I’ll be coming down to this.
Please use CRTS for now unless we can confirm there is no lag. I hear rock band or guitar hero can check the amount of lag on the tv but im not 100% sure about it.
