Hey guys. I’m actually not from San Fran, but was there on vacation for a con in the airport Hyatt, and I need your help finding someone.
I was wondering if you guys happened to know the people I played against, specifically a girl who had a ridiculously mean Cody and played on PS3.
We went on for several matches, first on Saturday (where I fared better as I got 3 out of 5) then again on Sunday (where she literally whooped my ass extremely hard).
I feel sad because I never asked for her PSN ID and while it was painful to bear I did enjoy fighting her Cody. I don’t know what she thought of me (mostly Makoto against her as we rematched 20 billion times, but I also play Dhalsim, Hakan, Vega, and my main man Elf), but since I don’t get to play many different people anymore it was a nice change of pace.
Her zoning was nice, her links were almost perfect and she could rush insanely, and she charged so many Zonk Knuckles I suspected she had 6 fingers in her hand at one point. lol
Ill be there today (tuesday) at 530 hope you get there. For some reason my Phone isn’t receiving emails from srk so ill check back if you pm me about meeting up we can work out a way to contact. My email is joshuaphen@gmail.com
Good stuff today, dood! You’re Viper is solid. I think you’ll fit in well with the scene here, we just gotta step up our local sessions (of which there are next-to-none. O’ Red Fleet! Where art thou?). :bgrin:
Thanks man, I know there’s mad good players around they just gotta come out of the woodwork. I’m bout that playtime so everyone should knowe that I’m down. Let’s build up our local community.
Sup guys, i dont know if you know, but i am having a bi-monthly event at sf state if you guys want to come. we just had our first session last wed, and it was pretty fun. check out this link http://shoryuken.com/f23/sfsu-bi-weekly-dojo-253079/. its mostly the 1st and 3rd saturday every month, but if you guys want me to set up a session other than the given Saturdays, ill be more than happy to set things up if iam not busy. come on down to network and battle, and to join our communitys together. also, message me if you got questions or ideas to make the scene better.
That’s just the thing, it was a con. She could’ve been from anywhere (I went from Columbia, SC).
I was hoping she went to this forum.
But let me tell you about the awesomeness.
She used all of Cody’s anti-airs almost perfectly (at worst trading hits with me).
She approached safely (couldn’t punish her approaches). She knew the range of her moves and used them appropriately, using command normals and LK Crack Kicks to approach mostly unharmed.
FADC’d every EX Zonk or HK Crack Kick into her Ultra 1 EVERY TIME. She literally had that down to a science.
With pad, she was somehow able to charge all Zonk Knuckles and release them in a row. Damn.
Did I mention she did all this junk with pad?
Did I mention it was a girl? I’ve never had so much fun being emasculated in my life.
so, i recently got a job out here in san fran, and i have heard that there are some arcades still operating within the city. i’m in the process of finding housing, and i was hoping someone could give me a breakdown of where the good spots are for both arcades and for local tournies/sessions.
i figure it couldn’t hurt to have a general idea of how fighting game friendly each part of the city was haha.

Seems like there are new heads showing up every week. I was asking the same question 2 weeks ago, actually. There seem to be a few locations scattered around the area. Here are the ones I know about (but haven’t necessarily visited yet):
-The Starbase Arcade in San Rafael: I’ve gone once and plan to go again. Really hype weeklies and a good number of attendees.
-The Metreon (Tilt): I haven’t gone yet. Not sure where it is, but with a little online searching I’m sure it’ll be easy to find.
-SFSU Bi-Weekly Dojo: I plan to hit it up tomorrow (Saturday the 6th). Hopefully it’ll pull a good crowd.
-SFSU Rack-n-Cue: An arcade-type spot, not to be confused w/the bi-weekly dojo. Haven’t been here either.
So that’s a really limited list, and I’m sure there are more spots, but it seems that there is no one central spot for the community (yet). I’m also still searching around for a regular spot, and I’m considering maybe hosting at my studio in the future, so we’ll see. I’m certain there are more knowledgeable people in this thread and others, so keep an eye out. Hope it kind of helped as a starter.
You most likely won’t find any competition at Tilt. They have a Super cabinet, but it’s a dollar for two minutes of game time. Game time may include going from the 360 Dashboard to Super to arcade/versus mode to the actual playing of the game, so good luck finishing a match.
The Rack-n-Cue is really the best arcade in the city. Vanilla only though. ._.
If your in SF or live pretty close to SF and want to play SF4 (Soon to be SSF4) for the arcade, SFSU Rack n Cue is where it’s at. Great competition, good cabinets, cheap games (25 cents), good location for transportation. Stop on by when you have free time. Usually get busy around 10:30-2:00 M-F
As for the SF Dojo thing at SFSU…have not been to it, but sounds fun. :wgrin:
Wow, this thread got busy while I was gone. I think we’re long overdue for some fortnight fights! I’ll host next friday if anyone is interested in getting their faces beaten in with a tire iron. Or beating someone else.
For those of you who’re already in the know, the good news is we now have two televisions, and a ps3 in the house. Yep, things have been busy over on Franklin.
For all the new guys, send me a PM and I’ll get you the info you need to know if you want to attend. We tend to have fairly small meets.
Well FYI metreon is only a token for 2 minutes. If everyone puts in 2 tokens you end up with juggling 6 to 8 minutes ther whole night. Granted its not as cheap as sfsu but that being said I spend ten bucks at both places for the same amount of time I would spend at either place. Plus its Super. I live close to sfsu so I’m looking foward to when they get super. By that time though I bet AE will come out and tilt will still be the most u2date. I really think we need to hold things in an arcade environment because it brings the community together in a open big public place. Instead of focusing on at home sessions. Plus with money on the line things arer more competitive but the community aspect is still there cause its still only a small amount.
Also welcome fellow migratory birds. I’m totally about not being the only new guy. It would be cool if we had a solid amount of regulars to this thread meet up.
