its all good they manage to pick it up so I’ll be getting next monday…
Don’t forget! UMvC3 tournament tomorrow @ Saltmines. Setup begins at 5:30pm, doors open at 6.
Console is PS3, tournament entry fee is $5. Casuals as always will be free!
Side tournaments are A-OK with SDFGC member approval. We only ask that you make a reasonable donation towards the venue in an effort to keep the event alive.
Don’t forget you can always help support us with purchases of snacks (if you buy from pangea, save the reciepts for us), spreading the word, straight up donations, or best of all, buying a T-Shirt!
See you all tomorrow!
holy crap, totally keep forgetting about this because it’s mondays and i’m to busy being an adult! i need to make it to the scene again! thanks for making it happen RJT!
No worries NewGen, responsibilities come first of course. We’re just out here playing games. I look forward to seeing you whenever you can make it!
Quoted from our facebook announcement
"Congrats to Combusted for playing in his first Saltmines tournament and taking first place! WL OMFGerald was able to take a solid second with his vengeful salty runback against Maximus Prime, and Uncle Matt clinched a solid 3rd.
Again, thanks to all that came out, you guys are the reason we’re doing this, so please, spread the word and come play, hang out, and make new friends.
A couple people
asked me how they could help us here at SDFGC, and you can always help by bringing your friends, give us suggestions, and donations. All proceeds from T-Shirt sales, food sales, and tournaments go towards paying off the venue and all the equipment that our staff members have purchased. So spread the word!
Once again, thank you for your continued support, and save the date for Nov. 17th. We are running a big tournament with a guaranteed AE pool, and I’m working on securing a Marvel pool.
Next week we will be running a BOTH UMvC3 AND AE tournaments, so come out regardless!
Special thanks to the P4A players and even Tekken! It was nice to watch some of your matches and try to pick up the game.
Last but not least, we have a new item to the lost and found, someone left a particularly expensive item behind. Message us with what it is and we’ll give it back to you next week."
Hey, I’ve been thinking about the scene and I have a few ideas I’d just like to bounce off you guys
First off, BT|Koogy is doing an iama on the mvc3 subreddit this thursday at 10am, hes the guy who makes all the great fgc shirts (brokentier), I think that’d be a great chance to ask about monetizing our setup from sombody who does it professionally, just get an opinion or two. If you don’t think you can make it I can ask for whoever, just post stuff up.
I was also wondering about those screens that sit in the corner, the 4 panel thing, are those TVs? Is there any way we can use those? If not is there any way we can get our hands on a projector? I was thinking we have a big ass screen in the back we might as well put it to some use.
In line with the projector idea, have we considered traditional arcade lighting? Like the kind you see at superarcade or other arcades.
Just a few thoughts, thought i’d put em down in the forum before I forget.
excellent ideas, again thanks for the suggestions. I’m in between classes, so I’ll keep it brief
-
We do have access to the TV, we were thinking about using it to play next week, but we need to test the lag (its essentially just a big projector)
-
The projector that projects onto the screen lags a bit, and I was thinking about using it to display the tournament brackets, but with full lighting its very hard to see.
-
I don’t entirely know what you mean by traditional arcade lighting, but if you message me with some details or pictures, I’ll see what I can do.
-
great tip off about the iama on reddit. I’m not on reddit, and I will be in class at that time (and yes I actually pay attention) so let me get together a list and see if i can get someone to ask for me.
all great thoughts and suggestions. I appreciate it greatly. keep em coming!
I’m curious as to what all streaming equipment you use, if you don’t mind telling? Trying to think of ways we can improve the stream/recording setup. I know you said you use WireCast. From watching the stream, I’m guessing you have a Hauppauge? How are you running all the cords?
When I meant use projector or the big tv I meant to just play the stream on there, like they did at box. I don’t know how it hooks up but if somebody has a laptop with s-video or hdmi out (whichever the TV accepts) they can just plug in the laptop, load the stream, full screen it and leave it.

I have no idea how we’d go about setting this up… maybe some cheap flood lights with a blue filter over it? I don’t even know. I have a few friends that do interior design, if you can send a couple photos of what the entire area looks like (so they can get an idea of what we’re working with) I can see if I can get recommendations from them on how to light it.
I’d really like to do all I can to make the scene grow, I wasn’t able to make it out monday but you can expect me next week.
Soul, I kind of did something for my tournaments in Louisiana. Basically what I did was hooked up a 37" to my computer as a second monitor. I then dragged the window that was the game feed to the second monitor/big screen and set it up facing the crowd so they could watch. I then had the stream station behind the Big Screen, and it kind of made a sectioned off area for them to play in. But you do run into some problems doing it that way. First off, if you don’t have HDMI on your computer and are using something like an DVI-to-HDMI splitter, you won’t have sound coming out the TV. Second, if you are using a hauppauge, there is a little bit of lag in between the game the stream station is on and the feed on the computer. When I get the money I’me going to buy a few more things.
Here is an example of what my setup is
The next thing I’m wanting to purchase is a 4 port HDMI splitter. This allows me to hook everything up like in the picture, but also have the Big Screen/Projector hooked up to one of the ports (eliminating that “little bit of lag”) as well as give the commentators their own monitor to watch so they don’t need to watch the feed on the computer half a second to a second behind (which was happening on the stream, so that’s why I’m assuming you’re using a hauppauge).
The Mixer is very nice for easy adjusting of levels on the fly and with the headphone amp you can turn up a commentators headphone if he says it’s too low without trying to just turn everything up (I’ve noticed that sometimes what’s perfect for the stream/recording can come off as low when listening to it live. So I just turn up that headphone instead).
RJT, you are welcome to come to OFC (oceanside fight club) this Sat. and check out how I split my audio/video. Using a powered component splitter we push signal to streaming computer, TV (for playing) and projector for spectators. Its easily done with the right stuff…monoprice.com is your friend
I dont mind telling at all. again the weaklink for us is the streaming PC, which is regrettably, extremely slow.
ps3 ->1x2hdmi splitter
splitter -> monitor/hdmi to component converter
convert->pvr
pvr->pc
2usbmics+2usbwebcams to the computer
to be honest the stream setup is great in theory, its just the computer that needs upgrading (i am terribly poor after having ran this event for nearly a month now :P) it should run fine, and the commentators should ahve no problem watching it off the screen and commentating, but even in the local recording the computer lags out sometimes, and that poses a problem. also any audio lag you hear on stream is from the computer not being able to process the VAC in time, because otherwise it should all be perfectly in sync. when the computer is under heavy load i notice that the audio cable sync drops to 94% or so, which only goes away after i reset it, but is incredibly annoying to do. fortunately, we have staff members with very generous hearts, and we should have a better PC for this soon.
Ah I see, thats not a bad idea, to play the stream on there. I had not considered that option. I can even access the TV in the lounge in pangea and have them play it there so all the poor people just eating outside have to watch. ahahah what do you think about that? and yea if you could ask your friends to see how feasible and possible it is, I will totally consider it.
I have have considered having a monitor for the commentators, but we just dont have the equipment to spare (we personally only have 5 dedicated setups), and I don’t want to rely on other people who bring setups because if they need to leave early, I don’t want to be tying up their equipment if you know what I mean.
and yes, i can adjust each microphone individually, im just usually running around doing other stuff too, so I cant always be monitoring the stream. So I need your feedback to help perfect it :]
That would be great! Are all the details in your thread? Otherwise message me with the details and I’ll be there. I would love to meet you all as well.
thanks again for all the suggestions and discussion. Keep it coming, and who knows, maybe when you guys show up to the event, we could use your help!
Details are on our site in my sig
Oh man, I spaced on this concept becoming reality. Looks like you’ve persevered all the hurdles and established urself a growing fight club. And the very first interesting event to take place in the history of Mira Mesa. Props, RJT.
I’m down to play on Monday. What’s the deal again? Free casuals and $5 to enter eithe/or AE/Mahvel tourneys respectively. Doors open up around 6pm, and buy some shit to sustain the scene. And ur PS3 exclusive? I have an adapter, but if you’re needing an xbox set up, I can provide system and game, sans alt costumes and jill/shuma DLC.
Lemme know wutz good, looking forward to meeting/beating the local talent. Jk, i’m ass tier most of the time.
actually kearny mesa now, but meh CLOSE ENOUGH. haha we have xbox setups, but they are for casuals, feel free to roll through, bring your converter if you wanna play ps3 tourney, and dont worry, im a tier below you for sure, so come through and kick some ass, get salty, and have fun
I look forward to meeting you!
Rain check, rjt. I don’t wanna bring any drama to ur scene. But I’ll come through another time. G/L
this monday is ae?
I thought he said this Monday is both AE and Marvel
I have no idea what you are referring to, but I assure you, I am drama free haha, but whatever you gotta do, I look forward to meeting you when you can come!
Both AE and Marvel simultaneously
Right!
Is that going to be the regular thing from now on? AE and Marvel each week?
