24 people is a big number, but it can be done with a little elbow grease and awareness.

Well, first off you’d have to post in the threads of the nearby cities. Austin and Corpus would probably be the most likely to come down. Houston and Dallas after that, and really that’s about it.
Second, some things to remember for future tournies:
-
Have everyone play thier games straight out. None of this play your first match now and 3 days later your 2nd. It goes much faster like that.

A general rule of tournaments is that if you win with one team, that team has to be the team you use in the next match. No switching teams or switching orders.
-
Finals is always best 4 out of 7. I think some people even go so far as to making losers finals 3 out of 5. I’d ask around about that last one, but I think 2 out of 3 for losers finals is cool.

NO BANNING CHARACTERS IN MVC2!!! There’s really nothing scrubbier than this kind of thing. If you can’t handle any of the top 4, then you probably shouldn’t be throwing down money for a tourney anyway.
Oh yeah and low tier tournies are cool in my opinion, but best if done alongside an existing tournament for less money.
Anyway, congrats Tony. Need to stop giving you tips and start getting myself some more variety. What did you buy with the $$$? Austin’s next fellas. Let’s prep up.
Sup guys, this is Nori. I used to play most of you in MvC2, used to get romped…probably would still get romped, but that’s not the point:)
We’re trying to get all the fighting game community towards GamersEdge behind N. Star Mall. We play TTT, T4, 3S, SFAE, MvC2 (DC, PS2), SC2, VFEvo, Super Smash…whatever it is, we play it and the whole gaming scene is there, hit up the place anytime or PM me for directions, hopefully we can all get some 2D in together, it’s a nice break from SC2 constantly:)

Sinister: Good training sessions this past weekend. Abrahm was getting caked by my Cyke/Doom/Cammy tonight. I may even be in your next tourney!
DLJ: Yeah, you guys better start preppin up. I’ll make you guys some mix tapes with 80’s rock music so you can train like in the movies.
Tourney ideas:
-the first letter of your team members’ names must respectively be the same as your initials.
-Your opponent gets to pick one member of your team for you
-King of Fighters style elimination matches
-spectacle wearers must play with their glasses off and non-spectacle wearers must play with a pair of glasses on
- play blindfolded
Yeah, I know some of those ideas are completely ridiculous…

If you want more people to come especially to a place like SW have a bigger entry fee or add money from your own pocket to make it a worth while trip to. Actually if yall really go to the austin tourney in a couple of weeks and do really good you will make a name for SA in the MvC2 genre. Then they would want to come down.(reminds me of my ddr days-people coming from other towns to challenge me)
gamers edge… is a nice place to play at but its to damn expensive unless you go on thursdays. Even w/ the coupon its not worth it.
NORI- i found some vids from a SC site of you and SA_rob playing. Where you both playing seriously?
Nori - The GE thing sounds like a great idea, but a few of the folks who play are young and don’t have rides. If they started posting up times when they needed a ride I’m sure some of us could help out with that though.
Busta - Cool team, but I’d go Cammy/Doom/Cyke on that one. And make sure you put on Total Eclipse of the Heart, Amadeus, and La Bamba by Los Lobos.
Lost - There were actually 17 people participating, one guy from Corpus too. And as far as keeping the same team, that’s usually how it goes, but I guess it’s up to everyone else if they wanna be flexible like that. And a few of us are already planning to go. I think some of us can make a decent showing if we prep up right. Winning it is a longshot, but hey you never know.
If you were serious about the GE thing, just let me know the days when you guys go, and I can try to see if anyone can give this bum (me) a ride there and back. I know that I’m going to see Resident Evil: Apocolypse this weekend, so that is out…but yeah…

As much as i hate to say it, people are gonna have to start going to places like GE for competition. Arcades as well as players are a dying breed. I know cause ive been always about the arcades, but consoles (since they are now capable of producing arcade perfect games) are killing arcades. Also, arcade owners dont care anymore, which is why 90% of the time sticks are shit or buttons stick, etc. Its something arcade players are gonna have to accept. If you dont have people to play @ GE, then yeah, it IS a waste of money. If players arent gonna look for different comp, then those people shouldnt even be playing fighting games. The next big thing in Arcades is going to be Tekken 5, and thats about it, unless MvC3 comes out which is slim to none.
As for the SC2 gameplay, eh… Those are fucking old. Multiply skills seen on that vid by around 50 and thats their present skill.
I can safely say at this point that GE houses the current best San Antonio players in these following games…

SAC (San Antonio College) houses the best CvS2 players. (LG being #1)
3S comp is real good @ GE. I go to Austin and play @ Einsteins with the regulars alot. Since Jimmy dropped, i guess GE has the best 3S as well. 3S comp @ SP is okay, but i mean, one stun gun on that damage setting = over.
Everything else, i dunno. I dont play Marvel, KoF or KI so i have no say. Contest any of these games? Step up. We always welcome and encourage new competition.
All the players for these games DID play these games in arcades, so theyre not console scrubs. Dont expect to scrub bust if you play. :badboy:

Well, there WAS one last week on Sat, and might be another one sometime soon. There’s gonna be one in Austin soon, so keep an eye out for that.
We are going to have to put up some decent prizes for the next tournament. I’ll be willing to put up for some free pizzas or something for the winner. I mean, everyone loves pizza, right?
I’ll be at the game room around seven-ish if anyone wants to play some Marvel/KOF/Chaos.
if there is going to be another one in SA let me know cause id like to come, i stay in austin for school so shouldnt be a big deal to go down and bring a few people
