Samurai Spirits aka Samurai Shodown - 2019

I will be waiting until Evo to make any opinions about tiers… but it’s fun to theorize. I keep seeing ukyo up there in the Japanese lists, him and haomaru but I’m not sold on them.

I’m not sold on Ukyo neither. I’m just not seeing it.

I would play Tam Tam if he wasn’t so dumb looking. May fool around with Earthquake, I need to see The tier lists so I can properly tier whore

Yeah, still think Ukyo has a few things holding him back from top tier . Not being able to WFT after throw is just one of them. You can use it to punish a lot of stuff that leaves the enemy far away though. He also has one of the better SSM’s in the game too.

You could combo into Ukyo’s WFT with 5B in 5Sp and I’m sure there are ways to do it in this game if that doesn’t work. I’m not sure why but it seems like a lot of characters lost combos they used to have from previous games.

As for tiers, Genjuro is looking top tier, if not THE top, so expect to see a lot of people playing him at Evo.thibg about SamSho is that it’s more matchup based so you can have a low tier character that has favorables against higher tiers. Hopefully it works the same in this game too.

well i meant as in ranking characters weapon flip moves not the character themselves.

oh, and Earthquake doesn’t look dumb and ugly as fuck? xD
of course it’s personal taste, but imo TamTam looks cool! :stuck_out_tongue:

Personal thoughts on Ukyo after playing him for a while: (tldr he’s good)

Good stuff:

  • has a super consistent punish game thanks to 5B, making him good for sitting in the mid range and winning exchanges since he gets better damage than most for blocking a B-normal. 66C and 236C are also good long range punishers for stuff like max range Earthquake 2C
  • solid (but not perfect) AAs in tsubame, 2B and good air-to-airs
  • tsubame in general
  • 5B in general
  • solid mixup game
  • slide and 3K are great, helping his mixup game and improving his chances of getting his weapon back while disarmed

Bad stuff:

  • while he does decent damage easily, he struggles doing game winning FUCK YOUR HEALTHBAR-levels of damage, making comebacks harder if he’s at a deficit
  • sad boi, so his rage building sucks and his WFT is pretty bad. Ties back into the point above
  • no invincibility on his AAs (big deal in a few MUs), and sometimes you get close 2B when trying to AA which can lose you the game instantly if you misjudge the spacing
  • requires a bit of execution, making him harder to pick up than most other characters.

All in all his toolset is very good tbh, his biggest issue is the lack of massive spike damage outside of very specific situations. You’ll be winning on consistency, by getting and protecting life leads (thankfully Ukyo is very good at both of these things), not by landing that one huge jump in or 5C.

Thought I’d post an early tier list.

looks alright, not sure of hanzo’s placement. i feel like he should be lower.

He was actually the one I was most unsure of. Had him in B tier but ultimately decided to move him up. Just think he is better than most of the characters in that tier. Great fireball, a vortex, good mixups. 66C might be the best running normal in the game? Even though he’s flawed in other areas, he’s really good at rushdown.

I feel like Haohmaru should be higher in the A tier list

So experimilk thinks Justin is the best player right now.

he definitely has a good vortex when he has rage fireball but when he doesnt have rage i feel like he struggles a little. i play him for fun so im no expert with him, i just feel like he depends on rage to be good.

This is pretty cool
