In other news, after a couple of days of accidentally turning myself into a Kyoshiro main, he’s no worse than the other low tiers in the game. Early ‘worst character’ reports seem a little exaggerated.
I bought 5SP as a test to see if i liked it enough to give 7 a whirl…
I think I’m gonna fuck with 5SP for a bit. Game is fun as hell
I’m not seeing how Ukyo is top tier. He has weak AA’s and mistake me if I’m wrong, but the worst jump in the game. Also TK tsubame is good but the opponent can just stand block to avoid this since his low options do no damage (and it’s hella punishable). This might have been different in vSP because he could link into it. Doesn’t have a projectile either. I’m enjoying the character but it seems to me he has holes in his game that the other top tiers don’t have.
i agree. it’s looking like TamTam, Charlotte, and Genjuro for now to me personally.
Dunno about Ukyo having weak AAs (and that’s coming from someone who just lost a tournament to Tamtam jC). 2B covers a nice chunk of the screen, and TK tsubame is great for covering the air. It’s not a DP, and the input is awkward, but it’s good.
The main thing I feel really stands out with Ukyo is 5B though. That thing’s a swiss army knife.
2B is good if they jump from a certain range but proximity close 2B comes out a lot of the time.
Admittedly, haven’t really tried TK Tsubame for close jumpin’s. Having a DP just seems huge in this game, especially with how prevalent jumping is.
Agree that 5B is amazing though. Gives him access to some of the best punishes in the game.
Spending some time in the lab.
Tamtam vs Tamtam instant overhead is guaranteed punishable on hit once per match (that should tell you what you punish with).
Jubei’s dp has invul on the slash, meaning you can rage explode as he flies up and he won’t get pushed back. Then punish with… well anything really. If it started as throw, cr.B, into dpC you sacrifice around 120 and use your rage explosion for 300+ depending on the punishment (you even get counter so just doing wft would probably net you around 500 while issen would be dependent on health before explosion).
Haohmaru can hit cr.C from front throw but not back throw (except into corner) but the only non corner follow-up that combos is wft, so only use cr.C post throw when full meter. Furthermore Haoh’s cr.C’s cancel window is after the slash reaches it’s peak, so keep that in mind if using him.
All said I’ve been enjoying playing Ruixiang, I’ll probably main her and will have Haoh and Jubei as subs (despite just pointing that Jubei’s most consistent throw combo can be a liability at times).
Does anybody know the active frames on Jubei’s counters?
I’ve been punished a few times with rage explosion when I do the 5B xxx DP, so usually I switch to 5B xxx fireball or crouch C when I think they might rage explode.
I guess I main Jubei since I think he is pretty simple to learn the game with. My first samsho.
Jubei can srk through fireballs just a lil less than 3/4 the screen for a punish. Full screen the opponent will recover from releasing the fireball in time to block the srk.
I dont know the specific frame that the counter is active but from experience from trying to counter deep jump ins it’s not on the first frame, I would always get counter hit and I would eat some damage.
he’s not super exotic in the tool department but hes the most fun character that I have played in the game. love his 5B, max range 66C, and jump back A or B air to air (also deep jump in B can hit really far away and if you hit with it deep enough you can combo into 5B xxx Csrk from quite a distance away). My only gripe is that I cant find a way to combo his disarm super from a forward throw, maybe someone knows a way? overall I think he is a pretty solid mid tier.
TK Tsubame and backdash Tsubame are hella great anti-airs.
and they deflect fireballs!
Imo, the main thing avout Ukyo is consistency. Where I felt that I needed to be pretty on point to get the right block punishes with my other characters (Charlotte, Yoshi) due to spacing issues, 5B just covers 90% of those situations by itself and leads to respectable damage and a knockdown. Makes it very scary to press buttons against him, and allows him to take lifeleads and sit on them very easily. His mixups are really just the icing on the cake.
I think he’s gonna be a very popular tournament character regardless of whether he’s actual top tier or “only” high tier. Stability is a huge deal, and he seems VERY stable once you have your execution down (and TK tsubame isn’t that hard, it just feels weird if you’re not used to it, and it’s very punishable if you drop it).
Imo Yoshi is probably mid/high-mid tier here. He has a lot of options but they’re all very situational and his best non metered punish off backthrow only works on half the cast. Plus his damage isn’t great and he can’t combo into his SSM (far as I have tested anyway.)
The game feels pretty well balanced outside of a few characters though. None of the matchups so far feel or look really out of balance outside of some of Ruixiang.
To me Darli feels top or mid high tier. She does absurd damage and has some pretty good buttons. Btw I’ll add you and we can play sometime; I need practice against Darli anyway.
Jubei’s super is almost more of an anticipation move. What I mean by that is, if you can anticipate an opponent jumping or trying to roll on wakeup it works best there. I haven’t played him a lot but he feels A LOT better in this game than in 5Sp, more like he did in SS4 which is a really good thing. For one, it’s nice that his catch counters don’t have an eternity of recovery anymore.
Never mind, I’m just bad.
I was watching this today
ok SNK why are there no combos in SS7 then? what were the devs thinkin makin the new SS without any solid combos
Because 6/Tenka is weird and doesn’t really feel like a SamSho at times.
I like the lack of emphasis on combos personally. It’s my favorite thing about this game.
Hard yes. As I get older, my execution really starts to suck balls, but this game doesn’t make me learn complex inputs to succeed and I thank goodness for that. Pretty sure my hardest combo is two buttons into one qcf.
