Samurai Spirits aka Samurai Shodown - 2019

I’ve played several UK players in Ranked. There are several French and Italians on there too and depending, I’d imagine you’d get a decent connection with them.

His mediums are really stubby in this game which is a bit of a bummer. Depending on the distance, DP can work, and the Heavy version has a bit of a delay on startup but greater invulnerability. I’ve been using his A attacks for longer distances but punishes are a bit tougher for him to land it seems like, because the ones he has are pretty decent.

I’m having a hard time against jumpers in this game. I’m maining Darli and can’t land any AA constantly.

Her hammer charge can hit jump ins. Depending on how aggressive the opponent is, you may want to charge up and bait out a reaction, then punish it with hammer, especially if you have a life lead and can afford to down-back for the rest of the round. I’m not 100% on the properties of hammer just yet but that’s how I’ve been rekt by Darli, even on jump in.

That I couldn’t tell you. I don’t know her they well, I just know what things have worked against me. Maybe I’ll sit down with her later and see what she’s about.

Edit: What Hawkingbird said.

Game is really fun they just need rollback netcode. There’s no reason why an older version should have superior netcode to the current iteration.

There is a reason. SNK aren’t responsible for putting the damn rollback netcode in 5 Special, that’s why. SNK the company has never, and will never care about proper netcode. It’s 2019 and they’re still ass-backwards when it comes to that shit.

I mean, it’s not just SNK. Arksys does the same exact thing. The netcode in this is comparable to Granblue from what I’ve played. Decent, but could be way better.

If SNK had code mystic update VSP, I see no reason why they can’t do it for this game.

Yeah, that’s what I was afraid of. Seems pretty risky and/or unrewarding to punish with him compared to the other characters I’ve played (though that includes Ukyo which makes nearly any comparison of punishing seem unfair). Yoshi still has other stuff to make up for it, thankfully.

Couple of minor Kyoshiro things that are probably known, but not a lot of people are looking at him:

He can do his air special during backdash. Still has its recovery period at the end, but it has good priority if people try to challenge it. Can work well for anti airing in certain situations. Also serves as another oki option on forward roll.

His real oki though is @D3v 's autocorrect 66M vs 66K. Forces a high/low mix up into another knockdown situation.

Flamekick and frog are practically, if not literally, low crushes. 66M too, for that matter.

Punishing is still super important. I’ve been trying to land backthrow grabs then punishing with Close C into 214C. Off a forward throw and in general 5B into 236A is one of your bnbs. If you have a WFT ready, that can combo off Close C, 5B, and even jump C and is pretty optimal.

I’ve been finding that pummeling people with his jump C as much as you can is a good way to go and can set up deflects when they try to punish your landing.

Part of the challenge of learning Yoshitora in 5Sp was that he had an answer for pretty much every situation, it was just up to you to learn where and when to use those answers, and I imagine it’s the same here. He’s a character who rewards experience.

It seems the game is a hot-seller in Japan…

Yeah, just saw that awhile ago as well. Great news for SNK and for the franchise.

Looking for brain dead characters to main

I’ve actually had frog hit me as I’m jumping in, so that may be another useful application of that move considering its speed has been nerfed a bit.

If they could license that Code Mystics netcode from 5Sp…:exploding_head:

Gotta say though, this netcode is pretty good this far. I’ve had pretty solid connections against euros, tho I haven’t tried any Japanesers yet. South America is kind of rough tho.

I don’t think there’s real brain death in this game, but Genjuro gets to do the stuff he wants to do without having to work crazy hard to get started, and Charlotte is kind of a “none of my tools require you to know calculus” character.
