Ok so i will leave my initial impressions.

So i played on a bog standard ps4 through a brooks ps2 to ps4 conveter for a start, the game as far as input lag felt pretty okish felt very sluggish, i dunno if that was me trying to adjust to the engine or genuine input lag or the fact that i was using a converter, i would suggest it’s more than likely just me adjusting to this new engine

First i will adjust one issue i had concerns about, which is the engine used, i was kinda concerned about hitbox issues because of games like sf4 and 5 in paticular moves looking like they should hit a certain area and dont, which is a big issue for me in sf 4 and 5 you might disagree with me regards this but for me i just do not like sf4 and 5 hitboxes.

So i had watched some footage i i thought i saw similar issues in this new ss game, but after playing it for a couple of hours moves feel like they have range and hit where they are supposed to, some ranges have changed some things been nerfed but all in all it felt very good

How does this game feel to me which previous game does it feel like?
In all honesty that’s tough to say, for the most part it feels and acts a lot like 5 special, down kicks are still pretty minus or at best even as are running light slashes like the running punch for haohmaru.
The way kicks act feels like 5 special but they do much more damage now, especially when compared with 5 special, it actually hurts when u get hit with a slide now.

the way your foe acts when hit feels a lot like 5 special, deep hits from the air act similar, getting hit by a jump in while in crouch gives you much more hitstun but i would say in general landing a deep hit seems easier now, it’s still pretty tricky but you’ll land it a lot more now i think
Air kicks seem kinda like ss 3 rather than 5sp or ss2, in that you can combo from them but it’s not as easy as in ss2 but not as obtuse as in ss4 or 5sp where you have to hit them mega late so it produces a weird prolonged hitstun animation

Throws seem ok, you can avoid them with a dodge the timing is weird, the range on them is rather beefy but if you whiff it’s pretty much game over.

Cancelling you landing animation from a jump with a dash forward or back still seems to be in this game in order to beat throws from a mistimed jump ins, i only had two hours

The dodge seems kinda ass much like ss4, seems like it might have been put in just as a way to beat throws, unless you dodge something mega laggy like a haohmaru heavy slash or a special, good luck punishing anything after a sucessful dodge, in the trailer of ukyo i think it was they show him dodging a medium slash and punishing, but you can tell that was bullshit and yeah dodge has a lot of recovery, you can also not block in the recovery of it leading to counter hits so, if they read you dodging prepair to eat a plus 10 counter , which i admit is easier said that done

I most played hoahmaru with a bit of the bird ninja guy at the end

Haohmaru

Firstly this is basically ss5sp hoahmaru with a couple of differences
Standing heavy slash has much shorter range than in previous games, jumping heavy slash seems to me have less horizontal range now
His running slide does good damage now, but is unsafe no matter what range you hit it at, back in 5sp and 4 you hit them at max range with the slide it was very hard to punish that seems to have gone now, you can punish it all the time

His RDP the leaping over head slash light version only hits once now instead of three times now, but the medium version and hard version hits three times, why and what for i dont know lol
Also you can no longer link down heavy slash into light rdp as a combo, that is gone it dont combo no more

fireball seems whatever, no more giant pursuit kinda takes the edge off of all projectiles imo, ie charlottes galfords hanzos, haohmarus, you dont have to respect them so much now, again my own personal opinion, damage seemed to be whatever.

His DP, boy his dp is now something to be respected, firstly it’s now a true anti air mean no more tiny damage, and no more getting stuffed out, the Light slash version seemed kinda bunk it traded a lot, but the medium and heavy version won vs hoahmarus jumping heavy slash like 9 times out of 10 and hit all hits for nice damage.

He also has his running dp, and it can be done instantly like in ss3, no more running for 3 footsteps in in 4 5 and tenka, you can basically just do ff dp now, this thing has good horizontal priority, you can blow through a lot of shit with it, which makes me wonder if hanzo with have instant running grab? more than likely id guess

His jump kick has less range now, can combo off of it, its pretty tricky but not as bad as games like 4 5sp

his running heavy slash is different from 5sp, its now like rasetsumarus the upward slash, only more laggier, nowhere near as good, but does decent damage

The other guy i forgot his name the new birdmask guy
He seemed kinda odd to me.
his specials all kinda suck, the qcf slash rush thing is unsafe only really used to punish in combos, his dp is weird and also suffers from missing a lot of hits, he has an air fireball that seems kinda bad to.

however he does have a double jump and a some decent normals and and a weird gimmick he seems to be like hanzo in ss4 in that he really needs to be POWED in order for him to come alive.
When he is powed or raged should i say his DP becomes a different move, it turns into a left right mix up which seems very annoying to deal with, bascially knock them down and dp either in front or behind them they guess wrong they eat a fair bit of damage they guess right and they can punish him.
Also the raged verion always hits never seems to whiff and fuck up like the unraged version

He also has a very annoying super, it’s projectile which is quite tricky to jump over, you cannot dodge it, and is safe on block, even if he is in the corner and does it at point blank range, i tried so hard to punish it and i cannot, i can see a lot of noobs complaining about him, but deep down myself i dont think he is that good, but thats only my opinion, he seems to have two gimmicks and some ok normals

one thing i did wanna point out is that he stays in rage for a long time like 14 or 15 seconds compared to like 9 for hoahmaru and nako

And nako to me seemed to take a lot more damage she must have a lot less, i did hoahmarus hidden super and it did like 85%, i didnt mess with nako to much, her face in this game looks awful

Game’s using UE4 and it’s first attempt by SNK to make a game using it. Guaranteed it has a high input lag naturally

A timer that goes down as you play, apparently.

On a JP account you can use a free 14-day trial to download the demo.

Yeah, Frionel already figured out how to bypass it by deleting the game’s system save data.

Lol, neat!

Great write up!

Lol Wong is so cringe. Cracks me up that a dude who admits to never playing the games is making videos with titles like “how to get ready for…” I respect him as a player but it seems like hes just trying to get on the bandwagon, especially when the videos seem pretty unprepared.

Yashamaru vs Kyoshiro/Darli/Hanzo.

they overdesigned Hanzo’s shin guards. yuck. i’ll just have to live with it. too bad the footage of him was so short. i’m interested in seeing how his command grab game works out in this game.

Those IGN guys play like scrubs.

The game does fit his style though. He also picks up games really fast. He’ll probably be one of the favourites to win EVO unless a bunch of Samsho vets from Asia show up.

Seems like he’s just bandwagoning. If he were that into it I feel like he would have played some of the other games but he hasn’t and he doesn’t seem terribly interested and getting up to speed. This is all just my opinion though, like I said I respect him as a player especially where Marvel and Street fighter are concerned. I just don’t like the bandwagon effect this new Samurai game seems to be having. It’s cool to see the series getting attention though.

I mean they could just put no advertisement work into it, and then there’d be no bandwagoning because only series fans would give a shit.
