Samurai Spirits aka Samurai Shodown - 2019

The Last Blade is better than its sequel in my opinion. The gameplay flow of that game is unmatched.

Lol LB2 is broken AF.

Its literally one of those games.

Last Blade 2 is almost up there with SamSho 3 and 4 as games that are mostly better suited for combo video makers to play with over actually being used for competitive play.

That video was hilarious in part because of the music they picked :joy:

I’ll be honest, I’ve only played LB1 once because everyone seems to go to 2. What about 1 is better
in your opinion, mainly the pacing?

Last Blade 1 had some funs stuff as well, especially since you could dizzy an opponent multiple times in a combo.

The game is basically a later gen KoF with swords.

Ive never seen this stuff…

Is there any hidden complexity here or just mashing the buttons is good enough?

Lee and Zantetsu’s air stuff are due to bugs. I forgot if the air crouching normals glitch here is unique to LB2, or if it’s similar to the one in other KoF games. The rest of the infinites are mostly just dash cancel infinites with 4A.

Most of the above ended up banned from tournament play.

I often compare these games to the early Marvel games, this was one of SNKs first tries at a chain based combo system (following up after the Real Bout games) and it shows.

More control in neutral, a greater variety of valid tactics, better looking combos, and better balanced playable cast. I am also more fond of the presentation.

was that just defend or parry? i wonder if you can do evo moment style parries?

The Last Blade games have parries. A lot of the attacks in Samurai Shodown have very negative on block frames that make it look like a parry, but not sure about this installment.

P.S. I am always mildly disappointed when I watch Samurai Shodown footage and no one plays Kyoshiro.

I don’t think so, parries and just defends affect the attacker a little differently from the way SF parries work.

The closest equivalent would probably be dodge, but I don’t know if the recovery on dodge will allow it to be effective against multi-hit attacks.

Just Defend just gives reduced block stun. There’s no parry freeze. That said, SamSho as a series is similar to 3S in that it also does not have Absolute Guard - you have to continue holding block to keep blocking. So technically, you can try to JD multiple hits.

SamSho 7 has Just Defend.

Would that have a different result compared to Just Defending the last hit only?

No, there’s no red parry like mechanic.

If you want a parry, the you should do a deflect.

Dengeki Online is running a “which DLC character do you want” poll.
