Hereā€™s an interesting argument against Last Blade characters in SamSho.

Heā€™s got a point though. LB characters are really gonna have to be changed a lot to fit in SamSho (Hibiki was a better fit in CvS2 since there wa A-groove, which is kinda similar to Speed Mode).

And thereā€™s the fact that no one at SNK is really interested in it.

First time I played SS was at a Neo Geo arcade cabinet at a Kroger. It was my favorite immediately, the last time in a arcade was Samurai Shodown 64-2 /Warriorā€™s Rage, it was in the student lounge of my colleges for a few months.

I have purchased the last anthology that contained 1-6 and I am looking forward to this new one.

Her weapon is like saw Cleaver in Bloodborne so it makes sense it would have multiple forms :joy:

Also, I think the walk speeds wouldnā€™t be that big a deal if there were a fast moving option like a roll or hop as an option as well. In fact, a slower walk speed with a quick move option would be even better.

There is no ambiguity. They are both feminine males with no balls and terrible fashion sense.

Agree, I donā€™t mind Hibiki being remake to an alternate version of herself to fit SS than yumeji that is physically Ukyo in likeness with the weird stuff.

So based on the recent screenshots on the site, the black haired Yashamaru that people thought hinted at another character seems to be either him when he uses his WFT, or when he activates Rage Explosion.

The problem with Hibiki is that half the fun of Hibiki is the stuff she can do in Speed Mode (and A-Groove).

my fucking ears are bleeding after that videoā€¦

whereā€™s Gen-an and Wan-Fu? that would complete the original playable roster :frowning:

Wanfu and Genan was thrown into the garbage bin after SS2 and nobody cared about them until SS6. What chances that SNK suddenly would just add them? (I know that I would tick a nerve with some hardcore SS2 fans but whatever).

Also I kinda started to see how style of new characters deviates from original SS designs and this disappoints me. Now we have very basic designs of original cast, somehow more fancy designs of characters from latter games AND new designs, that iā€™m not hot about, for new characters (and Charlotte). Just why.

Gen-an does fill an archetype gap though. Cast is short on a freak character.

I like Wan-fu, but if he never makes it in only nostalgic people are going to notice.

Earthquake happens to be a freak character. Sadly, the game has no sennin character like Nicotine.

I read Earthquake more in the big man archetype. I mean, you can be both, but aside from his size heā€™s pretty normal.

They probably thought filling the big body archetype was more important that filling the freak archetype (which doesnā€™t seem to be seen as a requirement as much as a big body is these days).

I donā€™t like these newcomers all that much. They are not bad, but way overdesigned compared to the old cast and donā€™t fit in. Charlotte redesign is also bad.

Also I donā€™t like Earthquake in this game. Such a design can stay in the 80ā€™s. Would have prefered Sieger, Gen-An or even Gaira. Oh well, Tam Tam looks like a boss and will definitely be my main.

I wonder how the Chinese see Wan-Fu. With SNKā€™s new Chinese overlords, maybe they decided to have a more attractive Chinese character, hence Ruixia.

Canā€™t really hate on Charlotte. Timeline means she has long hair again (7 takes place just before SS1 and 2). Ponytail seems to be because long flowing hair is hard to do in 3D, especially with this artstyle. Likely also explains why Ukyo has a ponytail.

Really, all that matter to me is that her stand medium still hits hella far, tri-slash is still hella good, and I can still cross fools up with jump heavy.

Lets do not drag ā€œTimelineā€ into this. How its affects only Charlotte anyway?
My, persomal, complaint about her design is that it not only ā€œjust lets undress her a bit just becauseā€ but also breaks the core design of Samsho by making it less ā€œclear cutā€ (in my eyes at least).

Yes.
Original Samsho designs was very simplistic. Its like they picked ā€œweapon archetypeā€ added only 3 defining characteristics and settled on it. On the other hand new characters are muddied with tons of unnecessary details up to ā€œHURRY ALL ARMOR NEEDS TO BE ENGRAVED WITH SOMETHING OR WE ARE ALL DEAD!ā€. I do not like that.

On the second thought they peppered almost 50% of the cast with it so its not that bad in terms that design is not eclectic. But still I think it wasnt nececcary in that 1st place.

I donā€™t think itā€™s ā€œjust becauseā€. The most likely reason is that animating the skirt just right proved problematic, even if they decided to manually animate like they did some of the things in XIV.

Besides, stuff was simpler in the day due to the limitations of low res sprite art. And itā€™s not like the series character aesthetic didnā€™t change and become more complex over the years. Compare characters introduced in 5 (Yoshitora, Mina, etc.) with those from earlier games.

I think it was pretty inevitable, and almost necessary, that everyone had some design updates to their appearance. Just because we like the 90ā€™s sprites doesnā€™t mean they look good as modern 3D renders.

I can see the argument over Charlotte showing more skin. But it isnā€™t like her armor wasnā€™t always anachronistic, so even if itā€™s part of her identity it isnā€™t crazy to depict her wearing a little less of it.

Lol what? I donā€™t care about the hair. Old Charlotte had leather boots with armored kneecaps and a longer skirt. Nu Charlotte has a shorter skirt thatā€™s open on the sides, and thigh-high stockings.

Itā€™s just such an unnecessary change for the worse, which is only made to make her more sexy. She still looks fine but worse, for no reason other than weebs.
