Amazon.com still has it listed for March 10th.
The Amazon artwork always throws me off. If I’m not mistaken, the art listed on Amazon is for the EU release, where the NA artwork is the really stupid looking one with Haoh and Yoshi.
I’m going to hazard a guess and say that Amazon is wrong. Didn’t they say we weren’t getting this until 4Q 2009???
I just wanted to say… I love this series. Glad to see people are keeping it alive!
Well, this is SNK’s biggest franchise aside of KOF after all. Not to mention one of most original on the market
The fans do what they can to keep it alive… unfortunately SNK Playmore is doing all they can to brutally butcher this series. SS6 (Tenka), while a neat “dream match”, did not do the story any justice. And SS Sen is just silly bad… a poorly-made Soul Calibur clone that seems attached to the Samurai Shodown franchise only by name, and the few familiar faces.
If SNK decides to release a half-decent SS game, the series could see a resurgence… until then it will be an awkward stepsister to KoF that never quite fits in with the rest of the family.
Well I think SS5sp gameplay + SS6 cast + Sen’s everything else would be the Victoly!
I actually think Tenka was really good gameplaywise and except certain damage adjustments and one or two charackters the game was full of win in my opinion. With SSII my favorite game in the franchise, though I really hate SSII randomness on some damage & combos nawadays making me play Tenka only basically when I ever play the series over SF these days.
On the matter of Anthology, for those who might wanna pick the PAL version up … The game will be like 17 euro and come out 27 of March 2009 if we can trust amazon.
There is an internet meme “Tenka is a good game, but absolutely fails as SS game”. I posted notes about gameplay differences several pages ago but overall its like anti-SS-fan SS game, something like MKvsDC as it was viewed by hardcore MK fans right when it was announced. If Tenka becomes a first SS game for someone and they will assume that its an quintessence of all SS, its one of saddest things that can happen (I have people that went through that, and they werent much impressed).
SS game with best gameplay up to date in SS5sp
I’ve been catching wind of some rumors as of recent that the English (see: U/C, maybe not PAL but maybe) versions of SS Anthology will contain SS5S, in all its uncensored glory. A suspicious rumor if ever there were one, as SNK-P has never been renown for giving us English-speaking fans that good of a deal… the KoF: Orochi Saga did have KoF '94 and '98, but with the added bonus of super long load times in between rounds for 94-97. Also, I don’t think SNK has ever quite gotten over the whole “Nevada-tan” thing, and has been censoring the bajeezus out of their SS games since. On top of all that, I don’t know if an Anthology with an uncensored 5S could possibly squeeze by with a T rating.
Oh well, here’s sincerely hoping we can get a console release of 5S.
Lol, a bunch of pixelated flat pictures cutting other pixelated pictures to reveal that they’re empty and black colored inside, and blood that disappears after split second not even reaching floor (unlike Mortal Kombat), for what reason it shouldn’t fit T rating nowadays (hell in MKvsDC there is scene of decapitation at beginning of DC story mode)
And about “finally getting SS5sp in all its glory” its kinda irrelevant to me because I think the only month I havent played it online on my PC in last 5 years was when I concentrated on making my diploma project
Irrelevant to you, but some of us are far too stupid to get SS5S roms to work. Besides, it would be nice to have a “legitimate” copy of the game… one with a Training Mode, maybe. =/
PS2 American Orochi Saga has no loading between rounds. Loading between matches in 96,97, and 98. 94 and 95 don’t even have that.
It seems many don’t like Tenka a whole lot. Some things might have changed compared to the rest of the games, but it is still a solid game. Probably might be the 2nd or 3rd most balanced game in the series (estimate, so don’t go all angry at me for saying that etc). SamShoTenka actually was my first SamSho game, since then I got the other games (most from Rokuban Shoubu).
Things aren’t looking good for Samurai Shodown Anthology. Since it has the same problems as KOF Collection Orochi Saga. Plus we are not positively sure if SSVSp is in the collection (thought it is in the Asian release, but unexcessable). Good thing I decided to get the Rokuban Shoubu instead, Really good collection. The only way I’ll buy Samurai Shodown Anthology is if SSVSp is in and emulates well w/ no problems.
SSVSp is one of my favorite games in the series and one of my favorite fighters now. I love the balance of the game and the system is solid. One thing I need to do for this game is how to fight against Mina players. Right now, I only focus on one character, Yoshitora, to some success on 2DF.
@ Gandara:
-To make SS5sp work on PC you download 2 archives, then select path to their folder from 2df client and wow it works lol how hard is that? AND SS5sp has a training mode because its a console game you know? It was on Neo-Geo so it has options and training mode. And since 2df provides great online mode, honestly I dont know what you can get better in “legitimate” copy that you dream of and that SNK may never port to newer consoles

Sogetsu just destroys Mina, and Suija and Gaoh destroy her with lesse extent. The two keys to win over Mina are
1)Catch her right in the moment she falls down after making aeral shot but when she havent touched ground yet (because she will start blocking then); for that you need extremely long-ranged strong slash which those 3 characters have
2)Catch her high into air when she does Shinimabui Lament (dp move) across the screen, and intercept her with slash, thus preventing her from runaway game. For that you need fast, short slash like Gaoh’s aerial medium slash for example
Misc)Teleporters also destroy Mina to some extent. Yoshitora can use his superarmor move to get through the arrows (it will negate one arrow), but its useless against Earthly/Heavenly Bow Heart where Mina shoots lots of arrows. I also should note that Sogetsu’s and Suija’s strong slashes levitate over ground, and as such they wont come into contact with Mina’s crouching medium slash ground arrow, but will fly over it and deliver slash/punch. Also Suija can easily get close to Mina through the air with his Full Moon water shield, and Sogetsu can get her from far away with Moonlight geysers.
Which is, after all, just a matter of taste. I could go with like most balanced, but definetly not the best gameplay for me.
Well I like the tactical approach: to outsmart instead of out-tech. In SS4 for example you could purely out-tech opponent with long combo you learned, with only problem left for you was to gtab opponent and push him back; because of that high-level SS4 turns into jumping game - no one wants to be thrown
Some of Black Shrouds advice applies to Mina in Tenka also…see how I play against Tokido w/Amakusa…and his Mina is no joke…
I time when she falls from her shots and teleport through a lot of stuff to catch her off guard…now she’s stronger in SST than in SSVSP…but still you can fight her the same…you just gotta be careful not to get knocked down in Tenka vs. Mina if you can…

I liked hao in capcom vs snk 2. Will he ever make another appearance?
Are you serious? I’m going to neg you just on principle.
