Samurai Showdown Thread

Just one should survive honestly. But let people decide after seeing Special.

tenka looks like shit, just like V and VS. best looking SS game without a doubt has to be 3. though tenka is more tournament material:amazed:.

Musolini is right…Sam Sho III looks the best overall…the style is great!!

I agree with this…there is no debate about Tenka and VSP right now period…

FRXI confirmed that…no emulators…

For now Tenka is supreme…but when the Collection comes out then yeah you gotta choose. Both will coexist…why?

Whatever one isnt a main game the other will become a Minor game…

It will just enter the pool with Sam Sho II and other games that are good but didnt quite make the focus group cut…

Meaning if we have time both will still be run in the future…at two day events thats gonna be hard as hell, but three day not so much…

That said, getting SSVSP and seeing for yourself with netplay would be a good indicatior of whether the game is better or not. SSVSP’s gameplay is not affected by reasonable lag- unlike say KOF or SFA, there is little frame-dependent stuff in Samsho.

Interesting point Arstal…

dood i play SSVsp and i love it, but i really dont want to see Tenka peace out either… both games are sooo different from eachother that i feel they warrant their own tourneys…

is SSVsp overall a better balanced game? yes but that doesn’t stop Tenka from being being a good tourney game cause there are weaknesses to the top tiers that have yet to be exposed…

If ss anthology is online enabled ss6 will be the most played one. Poeple at first will like ss4 till they play some one good  My opion is most played will be ss2 and ss6. i dont think ssvsp will be included and ssvzero just isnt as good or balanced.

what? 3 looks good to you… Well probably what you have not realized yet is that ss3 sucks. It slows down with like every attack. And it is packed full of infinites

Sen arcade is released. Yup… that means new info.

translation.
Had thee to four matches yesterday night.

AB is used for horizontal fierce slash, and BC is for vertical fierce slash, but typically startup is slow, and the reach is unexpectedly short, so they are hard to be practical in versus matches. For the most part, longer reaching fierce slashes are slower, and the shorter reaching fierce slashes are faster. That said though, the faster fierce slashes aren’t that fast, think of it as being barely enough to catch Nakoruru’s blocked annu.

For matches I suppose it can be used after something with long recovery like Nako’s reramutsube, or read opponent’s horizontal move and counter with the faster horizontal fierce, or use it when opponent wiffs a two or more hits in his strings, but of course that kind of situations don’t happen often, so fierce’s not something to rely on.

Throw is used simply by tapping the designated throw button(special button), and with 6(forward)+special button the throw becomes stepping throw. Damage is not so high, but regular AA or BB chains too have quite low damage output, so it’s useful. There is throw tech, but I don’t know the motion. Considering how easy the throw is, the throw tech has to be also pretty easy.

Reflect is done by 4(back)+special button, but it doesn’t seem to shorten the recovery so much, so much that even Nako’s medium-fierce slash that has fast start, won’t catch it. It did look possible to do basic uppercut at close distance, but the basic uppers all have short reash… --; if the character has one, fast launcher is a good choice, else just be satisfied that momentum is gained.

They didn’t have a movelist printout, so it’s difficult to tell the flow of the intended match, but overall they tried to make it different from soul cali by making the sword reach shorter and characters slower.

Should be good to try it out if interested, even though it doesn’t look worth the title of New SamSho…

p.s. when they imported the game, I assumed that the game would be censored, but characters still get cut. I was a bit embarrassed because a lot of people were there and the game displayed amputations on screen.

pps. There seems to be other soul cal style moves in addition to traditional quarter circle type moves, but the official home page doesn’t even list any moves. What are they expecting --;

/end translation. So basically, not too fast game.

SSVS has already been confirmed.

uh OH, well then its over, thats all i am gona say. If ss anthology is online its over. And i will end up quoting myself i know it (forshadowing). The 1st day that game drops its over. unless i run across some old foes:)

Don’t worry. It won’t be online.

Oh trust me I know SS3 isnt a good Sam Sho…but the sprites match the background…good definition…Tenka looks good dont get me wrong…but I like the overall matching style of Sam Sho III better…bigger sprites etc.

Plus the artwork for Sam Sho III…like the Amakusa I have in my avatar…

Still, I think SSVSP or Tenka will get a spot at offline tournies. I’m going to push for Special in NC over Tenka, though I think Shiki would push for Tenka over Special.

That’s the issue with Samsho- Special and Tenka appeal to two different crowds- Tenka is better for traditional style players, while Special is more of a Samsho specialists game.

I think the best solution would be for me to open money match anyone when it comes out. That might give hype.

And me personally I will play both for Money Matches as well as seriously…

ah well its kinda ironic you bring up amakusa in ss3 cause thats one of the few poeple in that game i know about. I was told amakusa in ss3 is the worste person in the whole game. And still amkusa has an infinite combo which is just hitting with down kick. No JOKE, amkusa can down kick you and it will combo till you are dizzy and then do it all over again. I like acouple things about ss3 like hoahmaru can cancel tornado from backdash. and garia in general. BUt Its just to easy to lose in that game. Its like fighting with real swords. One hit and its over.

lol, well personally i think if you and arstal did play ss5 money matches he might show you some stuff.

my prob is im inn school and im broke with a job  so i would gladly play you money matches in both but i dont see myself getting the funds to go to vegas.

on another note i am happy to hear that dg is gona fight buktooth in sst. my assumption is buktooth will practice vs very skilled sst players in asia. And the asdian players hold ALOT of knowledge around ss any thing. BUt of course i wanna see you kick his as@ rep some snk. so good luck and train hard i look forward to watching them.

so will we see Special at Evo? time will only tell

I can beast with Amakusa in SS3…I got that infinite combo down ON LOCK…

So yeah I hear yah, Backturned down Kick 4x…= DIZZY. Yeah the damage in SS3 makes it what it is.
