I had a sudden craving to play some Samurai Shodown. Last time I played it was a few years ago in the arcade so I’m a bit lost.
What the last version of the game that came out and how long ago? Is there a new making of one coming out? and what’s the best version to play now? Any info is much appreciated.
Edit: Are there any SS that are online and still played? cheers!
SSV special was the last released in the US on the Neo geo (04)
Good game not as good as 2 and 4 but what do you expect
SSV was the last released in the us on the x-box (03)
Awful
SS Tenkaichi Kenkakuten jp only release for PS2 (06)
lot of people like it, but most old school SS players I know don’t.
I would take SSVS if you are looking for something new and you don’t mind spending the $$$ for it. other wise stick with 2 or 4.
The versions with the most comp would be SS5 Special (online) and Tenka (offline). Some still play SS2 and SS4 online, and SS2 is coming for XBLA isn’t it?
Since I haven’t really been enthralled with the series since the days of 2 and 4 (though I did get a chance to play 64-2 a lot with a friend), SEN looks to be the kind of game that may really start getting that old bug biting again for me.
I could seriously see some potential for the game, if nothing else, because it’s seemingly so in-depth, the Japanaese testers STILL barely know what should be rather rudimentary things for the game. I mean, when it’s such a thing that even seasoned veterans don’t know what to do, that they basically have to BS their way and just play safe, that speaks to me in some ways…like there’s a number of layers that have yet to be unearthed.
Of course, all of that is probably a moot point to me until the game’s official release by this spring, and even later, the PS2(and Wii?) ports some time later. Still…so far, SEN looks good, at least to me.
Dude…5 is horrible in terms of damage. I mean its the only one I’ve played besides 3 and 4. And oh my goodness when I play 5 Special, that damn red bastard does that one throw move that pretty much screws you over. Samurai Shodown 5 is not an offensive game(from my viewpoint) hopefully SSS will be good.
I assume you mean Gedo by “red bastard.” Gedo’s throws are good, but the thing is, it’s damn hard to utilize. So the guy’s gotta be pretty good in the first place to get you bad. Besides, I think Gaira’s 360 is a better throw if you ask me. You can always go Mina vs Gedo… supposed to be a very hard match for the Gedo player. If you did that, though, in Korean arcades, good chance it’ll turn into a real fight lol.
FYI for Rimururu vs Gedo, it’s easier if you do backdashcancelled air ice spikes. Gedo is a bastard but he’s not that difficult.
Pretty much. And that was the exact reason why I became so enamored with the series back in the day. It was so vastly different from SF2 and all of the me-too’s out there…I can’t even bring myself to remember how many times I begged my parents to let me just stay in front of that Samurai Shodown machine when I was a lil thing. :wgrin:
Again, that’s why I’m really hoping SEN will do more to bring back what I loved about this series. I just really didn’t like the games Yuki designed, and I would like nothing more than to see K2/Team Galapagos getting back to what they started in the first place.
From the loke test vids, it looks like it has a really bad throw ranges, I mean the characters were right next and it whiffed. So I’m a little worried, actually. It doesn’t look like a distance and placing game the 2D samsho are. Of course it’s all supposed to change by gold release… but honestly besides NGBC I haven’t seen playmore changing so much stuff after loketests.
