I’ll check it out. We could possibly play on Saturday.
i did not realize some people would not find andrew jackson fighting samurai in front of the white house to be immensely entertaining. my mind is blown
Soo, the more something is out of place, the more entertaining it gets? I hope when Ryu’s super will involve driving a truck to hit his opponent, and Ken would sport big afro and his stage will be set in Africa, everyone will find it to be immensely entertaining and SF sales will skyrocket. Or else my mind will be blown.
A character based on Andrew Jackson and a white house stage is nothing like Ryu having a super where he drives a truck or Ken having an afro, because those things have nothing to do with their characters. I happen to like all the stages and music in Tenka.
So I did some research. Andrew Jackson’s time line is 1767-1845
The last appearance of the original samurai was in 1867, then later the Boshin War happened between 1868-1869. The last samurai conflict was in 1877.
So, while it is strange to see a character based on him in Samurai Showdown, it’s not entirely out of place.
Trucks and street fighting also coexisted at same time, and with truck hit being a mildly popular fighting technique dealing 80% damage IRL, truck in SF is not entirely out of place. I bet its also more realistic for Ryu to get a truck than for Andrew Jackson to travel to Japan/for samurai to travel to White House.
Truck also perfectly explainable s: Dark Hadou overcomes Ryu, then he jumps of screen screaming “Roada Turakku da!” and hits opponent with a truck, then goes “WRYYYYYYYY!” and hits opponent with “Muda muda muda muda muda muda muda”.
Such a thing certainly will be “entertaining”
Oh yeah, SS6 music. If people like music theme of Machu Picchu stage (South American/Tam Tam stage)

While in reality its a mix of:
-Turkish lovesong lyrics from this song
-Classical arabic (not turkish) music theme
-Arabic “Allah-u ekber” (“the god who is grand”, used as muslim prayer starter) background chorus
Then I guess it will be allright for Ryu’s stage to have 50 cent-style rap with russian lyrics from USSR National Anthem. Again, would entertain audience for sure.
Why does it matter that it’s a remix of something else? Does that make it not a good song? I like the music. That’s that.
I have no idea what the story is for Samurai Shodown, but maybe Andrew Jackson did travel to Japan for some reason. I don’t really care. His presence in the game and the reason why, or lack there of, doesn’t detract from my enjoyment of it.
The fact that people, who call themselves fighting game players, get so easily swayed by asthetics that they try to ruin it for others by giving bad press for a game that didn’t deserve the negativity in the first place astounds me.
It’s bad enough that you have to try to get people to play something other than SF4 in the first place let alone get them to try something TOTALLY different.
Oh so Kusaregedo fighting Enja in front of White House is easily explained by them being a part of japanese embassy ^^
what a gay character he’s ruining my SAMURAI IMMERSION
seriously? arguing about realism in a fighting game with magic shit all over the place? lmao
but really, the low damage in ss6 makes me very iffy about it but any review that spends 90% of its space on some subjective non-gameplay stuff that nobody cares about and has like one line dedicated to most of the gameplay changes is hilarious
Once you factor in the ways you can deal damge in that game, you’ll know why they made it much lower than before.
Previously someone at SRK proposed hitbox fighter (no graphics, no stages, you only see hitboxes moving, the game being perfectly balanced), and the amount of people which like the idea was …hilarious. Highly recommended for gameplay purists. Theoretically, SS6 too would get better if one turns graphics/music off and fights with hitboxes only on screen.
Also you cant argue that compared to SS5sp gameplay/balance quality, SS6 dropped the ball, but I guess people would get less upset by Ryu having a corner loop than by Ryu having a truck-hitting super, right? Or he can have shaved head like Gaira in SS6
That isn’t what you said.
Bro. :):)
Black Shroud, I love ya man (no homo) but this argument makes NO sense.
Heh, I don’t know, for me Sam Sho always was the game that mixed the japanese culture from the past with lots of elements from the western (An american Ninja? A woman which is also a knight? some sort of german king?) The game always was stupid in that sense, but it always added some mystique to the game from seeing lots of things that will hardly be real. Hell, all the ‘‘characters out of place’’ was pretty damn killed in the first game with all those cameos from mai and kim in the endings of some characters and in the stages. That’s why I never had found all the samsho characters out of place
The day when a character appears flying an airplane into the stage, with two laser guns and a GPS, now, that will be the day when something out of place will be happening, at least with samsho you should had some suspend of disbelief
I do have to admit, I do like the music in Samurai Shodown VI.
I think a good comparison is Samurai Shodown V Special is Street Fighter Alpha 2 and Samurai Shodown VI is Street Fighter Alpha 3. Alpha 3 includes everyone and everything, pretty much, but it made some questionable choices in aesthetics and plays substantially different from everything that came before.
That is actually a good comparison.
I reformatted my forum so now english and russian sections are separated and forum looks more slim; as for site will start working once I settle with new hosting.
Since KOFXI/NGBC/SS6 arcade roms are listed as dumped by Guru; and since first two game roms already surfaced after MAME added them to its game list; I expect SS6 rom to surface similarly with next MAME update, and hopefully we will be able to play it online on Demul (its Atomiswave game after all) in fashion everyone plays MvC2/CvS2/GGAC online now.
Haze recently mentioned that they need more active members on mamedev team to make further HNG64 emulation progress, since it requires teamwork; but overall there are few active members now. The PSX game works okay online using kaillera.
Is there any frame data for SS Tenka lying around on the internets?
