Jubei is good, maybe you are playing him the wrong way. Use his B pokes. Mixup the projectile with jump B’s, although opponent can go nuts simply from uf/u/ub+B jumps which nullifies his ability to jump-in at you (unless he is Tam Tam, in which case you counter him with Rasetsu Jubei’s reversals). Shura Jubei is mostly about spamming his super, especially against cornered opponentss where you can tick damage them alot before your Rage runs off; Rasetsu Jubei is about scaring your opponent with reversals, and his super sucks. Standing strong slash of Jubei can be used as anti-air from correct distance.
Haohmaru is all-around char
Shura Charlotte is about Ryu Hadouken Trap, and she also can delay her projectiles (and cancel her taunt in special moves).
Hanzo is a grim reaper of game. Really. Kazuki cant even approach good Hanzo (ground is blocked with qcb+A Explosive Dragon spam, jump-ins are prevented with Hanzo’s standing D kick that knocks Kazuki back onto same Explosive Dragon he jumped over, and Kazuki has no downward aerial slash to get Hanzo from jump-ins, and no decent ranged tools.)
Non-raged Hanzo is relatively defensive, Raged Hanzo is offensive, because his game revolves around projectile. When non-raged, you use projectile to cover your tracks as you run and attack opponent (you can reach opponent first, and if he tries to attack you then projectile gets him, and if he blocks you grab him). When raged, you can grab into combo into raged projectile into air strong slash into mixup (in corner that may mean grabbing opponent as he lands and repeating the cycle).
From my experience, Haohmaru, Nakoruru, Hanzo and Sogetsu dominate the game
As for Hanzo mixups, you can seek Hanzo de Colombia matches on youtube; or just play some Hanzo players that know what they are doing (colombians, asians, someone from top HS players etc)
As for Nakoruru, she is not top tier in all games, in fact she’s bottiom tier in SS2
Playing against a Bust Kazuki that has mastered the CD combo is a bitch. LOL. Seriously, all he needs is to connect twice, and that’s it, it’s on autopilot and you’re dead. Good game still. I still prefer V Special over it.
Can we have reasons why though? I figure all of them just play differently and have their strong points and weak points.
Totally different games for the most part.
Frankly…I don’t see why people ever tried to compare the old style games like 1 and 2 to the rest of the series. The difference is night and day.
To me SSIV is good for casuals and stuff; I guess at just mid level. But even then you start noticing the broken shit like the loops, hell the Koreans that play it even have to ban all kinds of stuff to make sure it doesn’t get out of hand.
To me SSIV is kinda like SFIICE, the broken stuff in the game don’t make it anymore fun; just frustrating. I like the game otherwise (huge step up from SSIII) but I think SNK let too much shit slip by into the game before they released it. And its not really better for it. I’d play it but there are better SS games out there despite it having a different emphasis.
1 and 2 are for most part the same, cept 2 is better in every aspect and adds way more to characters and game mechanics. 2 is the best old school ss imo. 3 on the other hand is the most beautiful one, cept it sucks in the gameplay department. same for 4, actually ss never got on the same level as 2 imo. if the improvement from 1 to 2 remained in 3 and the later games ss would have been beyond awesome. cept thats not the case, not to shit on the other games btw. its just none of them ever took ss back on track. i view them as the kofs after 98, theres some good things in the games, but the games never will reach 98 brilliance (o2 did to a degree, though ive never been a fan of it personally). im still waiting for the SS game that will take it back on track, like xiii did for kof (xi was nice and all, and got it on track decently but its no 98 imo.) a new 2d hd SS game with all the mains from 1 till 4 and only the most awesome ones from the later games (yoshitoras the only one actually, though shiki and asura are too from the 64 games). this would be one sexy ass game. especially after seeing whats possible with kof 13.
I still need to know why everyone thinks 2 is the best…It does nothing better than 5sp in the gameplay department.
The hitboxes and damage from moves are inconsistent.
Randomsliceloldizzy is retarded. I’ve already took 60% from you in one slice…did you need to be dizzy too?
Rage mode is invincble at the start and makes every poke seem like a tight rope walk because sometimes they recover faster than you do.
Some moves are just outright useless and only serve to get you killed.
Ukyo ruins the game to the utmost degree by using everything I just mentioned and using it against you amongst other things.
Running grabs without having to stop or input a special motion.
Only 2 people have hidden moves…that chip the fucking shit out of you. End of the round? A small chunk of life left? Open your booty and let them in.
Floaty jumps make it impossible to jump in on some people without fear of certain death. The top 3 come to mind quickly.
I’m sorry but I’m tired of hearing how much better 2 is to everthing else while everyone is scared to point out the bad parts of the game in fear of retaliation…which happen to be a lot of things. Nostalgia is fine but lets not let it cloud our judgement of other games.
your forgetting a HUGE aspect of what makes 2 soo damn good. it was made in 94, and it was this good in 94. all the other games came way after it and none of them was groundbreakingly good. just because ss5s fixed some shit doesnt mean its a good game, or better than the 94 sequel. by this time around the SS games should have had a level of greatness if they just improved every game like 2 improved over 1. with all the tweaks ss got in the later parts, i feel it didnt justify the release of said games. just how long did they wanna use the sprites of 95? a lot of things where improved over soo many games that ss became crappy in the end. if you need that many games to improve such trivial shit, and have the game still stay that slow its just not an improvement imo.
look at how much kof 95 imporved over 94, than the same for 98 over 96. even with the same sprites of 96, 98 shits bricks ALL OVER it in every aspect. thats what you call improving a game. SS feels like they got stuck in the kof 96 era/days. the games improved a lil bit but not even close to what it should be or being good. thats how i feel about it, they killed my favorite series. those abominations.
whats even worse is that lb 1 and 2 made SS absolute, while it should have been the other way around (but they was too busy with that hyper neo crap in 3d). even the last best ss games dont even COME CLOSE to lb. how could they just shit on ss like this. their top developers stopped working on ss it seems. at least kof is getting the good treatment, better than ever.
Actually I agree completely; I think SS2 is way overrated and my main in that one is the worst character in the game. I think overall the system suffers from lack of options after playing games nowadays and its somewhat simple in some respects leaving the players to make up for it with mindgames (which isn’t really bad tbh). I see a lot of people praise it over stuff like Tenka and Special and it just makes no sense; its entirely nostalgia.
Just played a few matches of SS IV. I can see why Nakuroro (loli fighter) is god tier. All of her moves have insane priority, are just about instant, and do almost full bar damage. And she can play keep away on top of that.
I read on GGPO that there’s a way to SS V Special (the less censored rom) going on there by renaming the save state (both parties must do this). Anyone know how to get this going?
So being made in 94 automatically makes it better than every other game in the series? That’s dumb. If anything that makes it dated and primitive. Just because it was ahead of it’s time doesn’t mean it’s any better than the rest of the series. IIRC, a shitload more of “ahead of it’s time” games came out in 94 and ALL of them got more press and play than SS2 did. And you know what? ALL of them are considered outdated, no matter how fun I or anyone else find them to be. Games change, whether you like it or not. SS better not EVER go back to SS2 style gameplay. It should progress.
I still think the sprites are fine to this very day. If we get Hi-res versions of those sprites, it would look great.
SS3 came out in 95, not that far behind 2. That’s not WAY behind shit.
All that you just said still hasn’t summed up WHY SS2 IS BETTER THAN THE REST.
I don’t see how you can like the Last Blade series and not like SS 4-6…Last Blade is great, don’t get me wrong, but it’s broken to high fucking hell just like SS 4 but WORSE. Call a spade a fucking spade.
So instead of starting a new thread like a reject, Im just going to ask this here. Is there a thread on SRK for Samurai Showdown Sen? I ran a search but no cigar, I figured since it came out recently for 360 there would at least be people mentioning it regardless of wether it was good or bad. Thanks in advance.
I guess some samsho players forget to read Netplay section of my forum.
If Im not wrong, thread is called Samurai Shodown Edge of Destiny or something. You can also read [ulr=http://spirits.kaillera.ru/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=1086]these reviews which are mostly true.
I would say that game was released in arcades like, 2 years ago and to this moment you wont be able to find even complete movelist online (not on english AND not on japanese). That says something.
