Ah okay I have seen this but I thought it was an accident. It was what Sabre was doing against Juicebox in the vid I saw.
This part I was kind of aware of. I thought it only worked on certain characters, I didn’t know it was to do with the timing of the kick and the height that they were at. Thanks for this info
No problem, just know that mixups do work offline, just more of them work online 'cause of lag delay. Some of the regulars I play against have been conditioned to look out for my dash crossups with all my characters so they can technically “react” to the mixups that they wouldn’t be able to on line because of the delay 'caused by lag.
Basically if your Sakura does not use 1-frame links, she will be stronger online than off.
Online experience is best for when you don’t know specific matchups and have people relatively near you that can help you with this. If you take matchup knowledge from online / offline with 1-frame combos and footsies, you should be a pretty solid competitor.
Even with your links, in the overall scheme of things, I would say sakura is more powerful online than off. As lag gets worse, anti airs get harder, and sakura’s air jump HK hits very early. If you can get this in now and then, even without it hitting just to start pressure, you are 100 times better off. You will never miss your anti air because it is one button.
Sakura’s mixups are fantastic, but they can get well below even 25% depending on your opponents post dp options, or other reversal options. To make dp’s scarier, backdash them instead of block them, everyone loves to dp fadc, so don’t let them connect, and they can’t fadc. Unless you are up against sagat, then you can just block.
Concerning dashing that doesn’t cross-under for it to not dash under where ordinarily it would (j.LK or s.LP and j.HK in some cases) you have to delay it a bit, which gives you less time afterwards
You could fake it with non-cross-under moves but if they know the reset isn’t cross-underable then you’re kinda screwed.
Also the walking cross-under, is that character specific? x_x;;
Nitsua posted this video on YouTube that shows the j.Short in air for walk-under crossup. This is the correct way to mix up.
And no, against some characters, j.HK you wouldn’t feel a delay =\ Um… Try against Balrog the differences in hitting early j.HK reset and a little later. One should give you a crossup and one that looks like a crossup.
in the end, you cannot rely on sakura’s shenanigans to win. they are a great tool, and it is a threat, but you definitely cannot win with it alone. a lot of characters can shut it down decently, instead, its good for keeping constant pressure.
juicebox plays vs me a lot. and abel is good at escaping via ex roll. so its more of a scenario of me just keeping the pressure on. if i mixup and he fails to block, then great, but i dont expect it.
I agree with Destin’s and Sabre’s last post. I have been trying to make those points but have not communicated them well enough. You online Sakura’s need to play offline to learn how to play her the correct way. Like Sabre and Destin are saying shenanigans are a good tool but…
Grrr… Sakura is so low tier. You can be a stud like Sabre and win with some consistency using her but man… she is so low tier. I guess its fair given her story line and age.
personally i have an easier time offline, thats were i do most of my fighting actually. me and some friends would get together once a week and duke it out for a couple hours. i seem to play like an idiot online mainly because i get frustrated with people that get away with stupid crap. the best thing ive done to better my game was learning footsie’s im still learning it but my goodness does it improve your game lol
I get frustrated practicing the time of these 1 frame links offline and then I come online and can’t adjust to the lag. Its just the worst thing ever. I read here that they could have designed the game o that the lag is not input delay. Why didn’t they do this?
What 1-frame links are those? There’s only 3 I’m aware of:
c.LK > s.HP - useless
Light Shunpuu > c.HP - remodied by using s.LK, which is a 2-frame link with more reach (or using plinking)
Shou xx FADC > s.HP - extremely tricky x_x;;
for me beating game in master mode with saku offline was kinda easy when i started… thought i got owned in online play in G3…
i really dont think offline is harder than online , really.
I mean, lag isn’t at your advantage either.
to tell the truth after gettin some experience in online play (i start to win more often in G2 now… ) and still being able to beat the game in offline hardest modes, i would tell it is just different .
offline is really strict about timing, and CPU don’t do errors really often.
so its kinda hard to punish CPU.
BUT!! the comp is reallllyy predictable…
online play is something really more interesting to me, simply cause people playing (even noobs) aren’t predictable at all. it is more a game of “situation” than "technic"
you can easily beat a good player online without any combo… just putting simple hits at the right time and caring about your defense.
i would finish saying :
offline(master mode) = very technical and timing training.
onloine = situation instinct and mind gaming.
both are really important to progress.
but for me training offline will not make you good at beating guys in tournaments…
simply cause offline will train your “execution”, not your reflexion and anticipation.
So training online helps your reflex and anticipation? How? Anticipate how much lag there will be in a round and adjust your reflexes accordingly?
Not bashing you, but at least give reasons why.
EDIT: Actually, after re-reading his post, I think he’s under the impression that playing offline = playing CPUs. What we meant by playing offline = playing offline…against people. It’s alot more fun, intense, and helpful than just playing random dudes online.
Playing arcade was rather easy. The CPU LOVES to Focus attack.
Playing VS offline is where SF4 shines, when you get to see your opponent face to face and have mind games going on, even though y’all ain’t sayin’ shit.
hhoooo sorry ^^'
playing offline = cpu for me misunderstood yeah
okok, of course playing offline against real people is the best…
but we don’t all have many good players free to play everyday… so online is a quite good alternative.
but yeah online compared to real people isn’t that good , i agree.
