Sakura Strategy and Match-up Thread (2.0)

lol@ Mak being easy, once she gets in Sak might as well just spread her legs coz that shit’s freeeeee.

also, saying faulty things like Juri having bad anti-airs is just not cool, if you dont know enough about the MU/character to give out advice then just stay quiet.

If you’re going to just take what I said and repeat it, at least make sense.

  1. Her c.MK Buffer with HP DP can be canceled with FADC. Against a Makoto, that gives Sakura a lot of options. She can grab, she can dash backward, she can jump and she can poke. Heck, she can even frame trap.

  2. Doing a c.HP or HK Tsurugi would work if Sakura’s DP whiffs. However, Makotos dash around like they’re on roller blades. A c.MK -> DP buffer stops that crap. It also stops those pesky FADC that Makotos tend to do when they like to start their grabbing frenzies.

  3. Makoto doesn’t have a ton of options on Sakura on wake up. The reasons why is because Sakura has her EX Tatsu and her EX Shoken. Makoto cross-ups are weak too. Sakura, on the other hand, has some of the best cross-ups in the game. Just her LK Tatsu can cross up. What does Makoto have? Exactly.

I wasn’t actually being serious with my post. However, I find your counter-points as offensive as your original comment.

  1. What are all these mix-ups off of HP DP FADC you speak of? She can’t frame trap or jump, she’ll get wrecked by throw -> AA on whiff. The best she can really do is a FA mix-up.

  2. Makoto’s cr.HP and HK Tsurugi beat Sakura’s c.MK. Footsies. Makotos don’t dash around like that, man, you’re off base here.

  3. Wait, EX Tatsu on wake-up? What???

You don’t want to say Makoto has a poor offensive wake-up game … especially because of a poor cross-up …

  1. She can frame trap immediately after FADC.

  2. I can tell you haven’t really fought many Sakuras.

3)Yes. It’s very handy to use when trapped in the corner. Because:
a) It’s safe.
b) Its’ recovery is excellent.
c) If you catch your opponent with it, it’s an easy setup for another combo.

  1. Makoto’s wake up game is very poor. The only thing she can do on wake is either jump or attack directly. She doesn’t have many options.

I’m pretty sure EX tatsu can be stuffed at startup by pretty much any move ever. I’ve never had a successful wakeup EX tatsu, ever, and I’ve attempted a shitload.

Ex tatsu is not a viable wakeup option at all. Sakura’s other wakeup option is Ex shou but that can be blocked by a meaty cr.lk/cr.lp. If the other person does a very badly timed jump, Sakura can cr.hp or U2 on wakeup, but if the other person is on point with safejumps/meaties, Sakura has no options on wakeup at all apart from backdash but that can be option selected or even react slight walk sweep.

Ex tatsu is only invincible on 7-32th frames. The first 7 startup frames can be stuffed.

Makoto is not easy for Sakura, I would say this matchup is 5/5 or 5.5 to Makoto. In Super, it was very good for Sakura but now Makoto’s a big threat .

Sakura is -1 on HP DP fadc on block so she’s not at an advantage, the other person can throw her out of every normal she presses, she could Ex Shou but that’s extremely risky as you won’t have bars to fadc.

And I can vouch for Robot Makoto’s knowledge on Makoto, he contributes to the Makoto forums a lot.

Please tell me you’re joking.
Ok. Now, I’m a bit curious as to how your Sakura plays. Makoto is very easy for Sakura.
Let me play you in a few matches. I wanna see how good you are.
**

I assume you’re from America if you played with chaoslimits. The connection isn’t going to be good as I’m from EU.

Hey guys, new Sak player here. Switching from Chun and a bit of Makoto.

Anyway, I’m at my wits at end with these Seth players.

My main problems can’t seem to do anything about s.hp, I’ve tried using c.hp to beat it but either I’m too slow or something.

And AAing him. How do you guys do it? He changes his trajectory and everytime I try c.hp AA him, I get counter hit into a world of hurt. I know I’m timing it wrong, but the more I try it, the more I feel like it’s a really risky option. The first page posts mentions fuck him before he fucks you up but getting started is something I need to work on.

I will admit that Seth is a horrible match for Sakura. Even Uryo has trouble against a good Seth. Heck, even I have trouble with just a basic Seth.
The number one thing you want to do against a Seth is to put some serious pressure on him. Don’t let him get away from you. If you do, he will zone the crap out of you.

Welcome, welcome, Logia. I like your name

Why do I see some saks using Hk Tatsu? I hardly if ever use it because its -2 on block and people have a tendency to press buttons or mash throw, so i’ve basically eliminated it from from move set. Anyone else have thoughts on this move or practical application?

I think that’s the problem. I can’t really put on the pressure because I’m too scared of being SPD/SRK on wakeup. I guess I gotta learn some more setups.

Thanks dude. =D One Piece is the best, haha.

I use it when I’m close to putting an opponent in the corner. c.mk buffered into hard tatsu is really good at forcing opponents into the corner IMO.

I use it often but I don’t just throw it out to get blocked. The two main uses for me are to catch people who are walking forward, and to go over fireballs when you’re at midrange spacing. Even though it’s -2 it doesn’t tend to get punished too badly for me, a lot of times if they throw out a slow move to punish you can catch them with s.lk, and typically you’re not in throw range after it finishes unless it’s someone with a decent kara.

I pretty much only use hk tatsu if I’m cancelling from a normal in the corner or during a fireball war.

It’s not great to use in blockstrings midscreen since it tends to fly over the opponent on crouch for a free punish for them.

It’s important that you don’t try to pressure afterwards (Depends on the opposing character’s normals you could try st.lk) but generally, it’s not a good idea to do anything afterwards since you are at -2 and you have very little options. What I like to do sometimes is hk tatsu on block into EX Sho to blow up their tech attempts.

And welcome Logia! Nice to see new faces around here

err yeah, I was thinking of getting EX blocked when doing s.lk followup, not hk version. Don’t want to press buttons after h.tatsu block, I usually just do crouching block/tech OS.

add: I don’t suppose anyone’s come up with any new ways of escaping Ibuki vortex since 2012 launched?

Haha you just have to learn to block that shit. Thing is, her vortex is so much more expansive than most people realize, because most ibukis use only a few of her many viable setups. I have a friend who plays a pretty mean ibuki and at this point i can pretty much block all of his shit, just took a lot of time. You can focus xx forward dash under ibuki if she’s throwing a kunai (and landing behind you), but depending on the set up i think she might be able to punish your dash. She would have to react quickly though.

Yeah the one I play with normally has like 10 different jump-in looks I swear :?

She has so many setups. They’re all retarded. I can only block them with Sakura. The same setups you have to block differently with different characters.

I really hate ken what do you guys do against him…
