The bottom picture looks nice and I can easily recognize her as Sakura from the first sight. However, the top pic creeps the fuck out of me. If you just show me the top pic alone, I would have thought that she is the ghost from “Juon”.

One of the problems I encountered with the fan art is internalizing the character. Does anyone have any advice dealing with this issue? I did that by just staring at the sakura fighting stance sprite and seeing it in my head after a while. what do the experienced artists consider an effective strategy?

Well, I’m a sakura fan and I really like the character and the designs and story. So I have quite of bit of my own fan art of hers. I’ll post some here soon enough, but I have it on my site if you wana check it out ahead of time! I totally understand about “internalizing” a character. Comes with a good memory sometimes, but mostly with some good ol’ fashioned copying & tracing. It really lets you get a feel for the character & their looks. Then you internalize them… it worked for me. It really does help, but it takes practice.
