Saikyo-ryuu for Dummies: Dan Video Thread!

vs Ryu
vs Boxer

Nice wins, you have an uncanny knack for pulling those clutch Ultra out of nowhere to turn the tables (or almost)

More Sugami-san (I used “san” yet?):

PART 2 -

PART 4 -
PART 5 -

Part 1 has Saikyo Crushers

Wow, good job guys, was really enjoying watching those matches.
But running into Blanka’s ultra at the end of round was priceless. I was like " oh wow :D". Unpredictable ways of Saikyo, huh?
And I’ve got 2 more g1 final vids:

Yeah you just have to laugh, and headbutt the wall, funny thing is wasn’t the first time I’ve done that

HD goodness, what’s your setup for that? How large are the files (4min vid) in general?

You were damn lucky you escaped that Ultra  End of second round you could have taken if you went for Kouryuken chip. HP KRK FADC > HP KRK if the first one didn’t finish, the first KRK would have given you meter for FADC. Good catch the the Ultra at the end, lucky you didn’t have to chase him down for that

great videos ^^

Mirrow match:

Well, I’ve used some guide on youtube for best quality and can’t find the link. 4 min video is about ~180 mb. A bit too big maybe, but I’m satisfied with it.

And yea, that was a stupid try to jump at the end of 2nd round, didn’t know how to deal with it tbh. And FADC combos aren’t my speciality. I prefer some ex-dankus
(Don’t tell anyone, but actually i can’t perform FADC combo, cuz im noob. Will train hard, when I get a stick in 2 months.)
P.S. Uploading another g1 final with Guile. Will post link here in some hours, if anyone interested.

Good job. I laughed when you knee jumped over the Ultra

Figured you guys would want to see it in action. If the video doesn’t skip ahead normally, just watch the last combo.

I will be returning to Saikyo with open arms.

That Dan wasn’t great, wonder if Dan is one of his mains since he didn’t seem to know that HK Dankuu is a better punish compared to Kouryuken. You were baiting so many Kouryukens with dashes too, he seemed very quick to KRK. Getting that reversal KRK after the c.MK and before Gadouken was uncanny

180MB for an HD video, wow thought it’d be huge

You’ll need to get good at those FADCs when Super comes or you’ll miss out on Haoh Gadouken’s awesomeness :stuck_out_tongue: They’re surprisingly easy you just need to practice it a fair bit. I’m one of those people who can’t pat their head and rub their stomach at the same time so having to double tap a direction and press buttons equates into me double tapping the buttons as well but it works out most of the time anyways. What I do looks something like this:

F D DF F+HP F+MP+MK F+MP+MK

You can practice with Dan in training, if you do the Ultra fast enough you’ll end up dashing under them  If you do it from a cross-up combo (e.g. x j.MK > c.MK xx HP KRK FADC > Ultra) the push back doesn’t allow you to dash under them with the Ultra.

Close game with Guile :stuck_out_tongue: I don’t really agree with following jumping attacks with EX Dankuu, does it catch option select throw? At least make them block low with c.MK xx EX Dankuu.

Hawk, yes seen it. Discussing it over in the Dan improvement thread :stuck_out_tongue:

Just tried to do some KRK FADC into ultra. So in 10 minutes I got like 10 successful attempts and lots of KRK FADC EX KRK. I will learn it eventually, but doing it on keyboard is some kind of masochism, don’t you think so? I’m getting stick in 2 months so it’s better to delay my FADC training imo.
And EX Dankuu trades with Flash Kick if timed properly and it’s faster than LK dankuu. Didn’t try option select with it tho. C.MK xx EX Dankuu after jump-in is good only against characters w/o good reversals imo.

Oh you’re a PC player, might want to talk to Krack about keyboard skills then :bgrin:

The important thing is being able to FADC out of (reversal) Kouryuken for the mean time, can work on follow ups later but being able to do that is handy for making KRKs safe on block.

Edit: Also EX Dankuu vs Flash Kick is not a good trade, really no. You lose an EX bar and take more damage than he does. j.HK/x j.MK > c.MK xx EX Dankuu (hopefully) should not give people time for reversals, you’d certainly expect them to continue blocking if they successfully blocked the jump in.

Remember to use shortcuts when using the keyboard. That shit’s important to make sure you don’t end up with carpel tunnel.

Have some copy-pasta from my blog dealie.

The fingers you should be using are your index, your middle and your ring finger. Number notation will be used for this blog entry as the blog system is such a negative nancy when it comes to the input smilies. For the lettered notation, if a letter is displayed without any extra text, it means you need to "tap" that key, as in, press and release it quickly. The arrow notation is what the rough input would look like in-game if you had activated Input Display in training mode.

On DP motions:

Hold B+D > F > F or :db::df::db::df:: Let's you buffer while staying predominantly in Crouch-Block. Can act as an option-select. This is essentially what Diago uses to Option-Select when he's being bombarded by Rufus Divekicks. For us board users, it's braindead easy. It's keyboard specific, as I've used some keyboards that can't handle three keys depressed at the same time. (This one's for you, d3v)

Hold F > D: or :r::df::r:: Technically the easiest possible way to buffer standing DP. Simply hold forward and tap down once. Great for cancelling from standing normals where command normals aren't an issue, such as Ken's Target Combo > Shoryuken.

Hold D+F > F: or :df::d::df:: This is the fastest way to perform a crouching DP. Use it to cancel from crouching normals or crouch DP.

In my opinion, all the other motions for DP are useless on a keyboard except in very specific circumstances.

Alright, I’ll give it a try in my next fights, thanks.

Well, I’m using them already, but thanks for info. Your whole blog entry was very interesting and I found some things I didn’t know(like Shortcut for Super/Ultra motion or Cammy’s instant Cannon Strike motion, which can be used for Dan’s Knee as well i think).

 Think I’m getting carpel tunnel from using my stick, that or arthritis since I get the shakes afterwards sometimes

Here’s Dan being awesome in SSF4 vs Akuma

He whiffs a Haoh Gadouken so you can see how awesome it’s range is

Seems to “pop” around 60% of the screen, after it’s blown him backwards. Should be far enough after catching someone with an AA LP KRK however do not know if it will be fast enough.

Here it is, after a long two days I’ve finally finished my project :bgrin:

A Lesson In Saikyo: Throw Tricks & Tactics -

Surprised I managed to fit it all in a 10 minutes video

Good video Sugami. You covered a lot of the tactics I use in G1.

Dan in SSF4 (starts about 3:00)

Shame the guy doesn’t know how to play Dan. Haoh Gadouken did seem to come out pretty fast considering it punished Guy’s spinny kick thing, although don’t know the recovery on that.
