Saikyo-ryuu for Dummies: Dan Video Thread!

I think your videos look better than my WMV ones actually :stuck_out_tongue: Yours are only compressed once I bet, mine are done once with the ulead software then again with Vegas and WMV files seem to be a bit grainy, and maybe a little jerky/jumpy in places too. Probably go back to making them the old fashioned way so can get it in MPG format

I got a message today on my youtube channel, “I just want to say, you’re one of my personal heroes for taking Dan on G2 runs. Obviously he’d never survive in a tournament, but I would love to take him anyway. I love watching these videos. Please keep them going!” That made my day :bgrin:

G2 Championship Part ?-1 - teehee :bgrin:

Haha. Nice! I love facing Giefs and Sagats (and some Ryus) that have just a few ticks below 15k points and its blatantly obvious they have no idea how to play the game.

Flexing my video editing muscles :stuck_out_tongue:

Zangief’s are practically a free ride if they don’t catch on that Air Knee > Lariat 'cause we all know Lariat is their “go to” option for just about anything

And once they start blocking that dash back, wait for the lariat to spin a bit, then HK Danku them in the face.

Akuma matches have taught me to punish Air Hadoukens with Ultra better

Gouken match, round 2 I absolutely DOMINATED with Dan Knee tricks, really quite proud of it myself and I’d be prouder if the Gouken was actually quite good

Ken and Ryu should be good for a laugh, was going for most taunts in the Ryu match

Finally got a recording of the Saikyo Crusher™

Blanka and Rufus match just to show how much I struggle against their BS >.<

Yeah they are plastered with annotations, I’ve had no complaints about them so I’ll continue doing it :stuck_out_tongue: The ones that require hovering the mouse over it are generally strategy related, things I cocked up or missed.

Maybe I should add, if there was anything major I missed in my games and annotations concerning my gameplay then point it out :stuck_out_tongue:

Ha ha. Stomped that Gouken. XD

I do watch these videos, even if I don’t always comment. And I don’t mind the annotations, for the record. Now, for some actual advice…

Sugami, I notice that you’re often down on your own abilities and say that you’re about at the peak of your performance, but I don’t really believe that. There’s things you do while playing that you do better than me, definitely. You can actually hit the FADC followups, and you’re better at the crossup MK > cl.MP > Danku combos. There’s certainly nothing stopping you from developing Dan and winning a ton of matches. I think the thing you need most is more aggression.

You saw in the Gouken match how effective the Knee was. You were smart enough to read when he was going to Ultra and bail out, too. You could be a lot more aggressive if you up the pressure, though. When you’re doing the Knee against his wakeup, do it sometimes from closer range like I usually do. That gives you the option of continuing pressure with cl.MP > Knee or c.LK > Knee, or going for a tick-throw. Learning the timing on the tick-throw is very important, too. The Knee is one of the best tick-throw moves in the game, so mastering that is highly important. Other minor ways you can improve would include positioning. When you throw your opponent, always throw him towards the nearest corner. Backing your opponent against the wall is huge for Dan, so work at it until it becomes second nature and you automatically throw your opponent to the nearest wall.

The other stuff is just matchup specific, learning the unique ways Dan can Danhandle his opponents. You’ve got some ideas of that, with the Ultras against Akuma air fireballs, but there’s more to pick up. Against Ryu, for example. In the video you posted of him. the Ryu was sweeping a lot. After you block his sweep, you get a free reversal EX Danku if you react fast enough. You can even get off a reversal Ultra against him as long as it’s not a max range sweep. Against Rufus, you want to knock him down by whatever means necessary and then put on pressure with the Knee, before he gets EX bars. Without the Jesus Kick, Rufus has no way out of Knee pressure/blockstrings/tick throws. I beat a Rufus once without him getting a single EX bar in the first round because I smashed him so thoroughly, and the Knee hopped over the desperation wakeup Ultra he tried at the end.

That’s the killer instinct you need to develop. You’ve got the execution in many ways already. You just need more offense.

lmao!

I know, right?! XD After the second round I was like, “YES! I don’t care about the outcome of this match I’m posting this video!” :bgrin:

Hehe thanks, execution is something you can work on, reaction speed is generally something you already have :frowning: That’s generally what’s holding me down the most :frowning:

Against Gouken guess the “in your face” knee is fine, I’m somewhat reluctant in using it so close against certain characters as it bounces right over them if they’re crouching :frowning: I usually prefer doing back throw as it sets up cross-ups and MK Dankuu tricks, not to mention does 10 more damage, never thought about using forward throw to push them into the corner though, I use it if they are in the corner hehe, will take that under advisement

Yeah I forgot about sweep punishment. Close enough it’s a free c.MK xx EX Dankuu combo, I think people have gravitated away from j.HK > c.HK and just spam jabs now instead. I kinda need to be expecting it though since my reactions aren’t quick enough to pick up on the odd random sweep :frowning: Yeah I was very aware of EX Jesus Kick, hence I was trying for cross-ups and somehow the bastard got the auto-flip on it >.< Think it may be best if I just bait out those EX Jesus Kicks then it’s a free KRK punish if they don’t have meter to FADC methinks.

As for aggression I think I’ve lost it due to playing hoards of these shitfests, it’s hard to be aggressive when a random dragon punch can fly out at any time :frowning: Something I’ll have to try and work on I guess

Think you’ve said you’re a very laid back player, I’m quite the opposite, get all nervous and tense and with that I get panicky and make stupid mistakes :frowning: Nerves and impatience are my biggest enemy methinks.

Thanks for the advice, I’ll try and work on those

Hibiki San #79

http://zoome.jp/saikyooo/diary/79/

That Ultra against Cammy was pretty awesome

Hibiki-san play Free Championship or Graded? He seems to come across some pretty stiff competition but I play people with more GP in G2 that are much worse than that…

What’s with people trying to hide the fact they’re picking Ryu? After I’ve already picked my character, 2 dings = Ryu more often than not

Also, am I the only one who finds the little TV-logo-thing on that zoome player cute?

At least one of those matches was free championship cos they had over 15,000 GP. But yeah, it does seem like the standard of people in japan with around 5000 GP is much higher than it is here.

People are trying to hide the fact they use Ryu because they are ashamed :stuck_out_tongue:

Here’s #80

http://zoome.jp/saikyooo/diary/80/

Super at the end of the first match was

Man, that first match was EPIC!

Sure was!

Here’s another:

PART 1 -
PART 2 -

Was a horrible, horrble day for me yesterday, think I boned up Saikyo Crushers at least 3 times :frowning: (once recorded)

P.S. Abel is a big poopoo head :stuck_out_tongue:

Some more from Su-chan (vs Vega friend):

PART 2 -
PART 3 -

Have I mentioned how much I hate Vega? Man, wish I could throw out random shit and get away with it! Not really sure if I’ve improved against him, even if I did win two matches (we played more than what was recorded). I forgot about cancelling more stuff into Knees and lag was ruining shit (for both of us). He was running away a lot yesterday, I should have probably caught onto it and threw out more Kouryukens but then I risk leaving myself open if he does a backflip instead of jumping away… infuriating >.<
