Saikyo-ryuu for Dummies: Dan Video Thread!

Nice job. How many players are on PC? have any problems getting fights? My main deterrant to getting the pC version is, I like having all the colors/taunts etc. and really dont feel like grinding out for them again along with all the goddamn trials, there are more than a few I wonder if I would ever have the patience to do them again.

Hey TSD.

Plenty of players on the pc it seems, i never have to wait more than 30 seconds for a fight.

There is a way to unlock all the costumes/characters/taunts etc without having to play through the whole game, see here.

I have used this to unlock all the stuff after i got bored of doing it properly.

i still have yet to complete Dan’s trails, currently stuck on jumpin hard kick, crouch hard or medium punch, shorukien, taunt then ultra. Gonna have another bash at it today.

I have the tournament edition fight stick, but I’m so used to joypads that i mess up my combo’s more often than not.

Anyhoo i uploaded another video to show a friend, but seeing as this is the video thread i may as well post it here.

How did you let yourself get hit by his Ultra? :frowning: Can plainly see him buffering it as you were on the ground… try to do Ultra on wake-up but failed?

Needs more Dan Knee, ordinarily do them a lot on wake-up but against these shoto noobs that are prone to do wake-up SRKs I’m relunctant to do them.

Don’t bother with s.HK, use s.MK instead, faster and better range. Same true for c.HK and c.MK 'cept try to cancel every c.MK with a Gadouken or possibly Dan Knee. Even if you’re too far for the Gadouken to combo after the c.MK you’ll get some chip damage anyways.

Not sure if there’s a trials thread but since you brought it up I’ll try and help with it  As for the Hard Trial #1 (if it’s the one with the Legendary Taunt cancel) it’s:
Jump HK (I think)
Crouch HP
Gadouken
Legendary Taunt
Shissou Buraiken

4 out of 5 of Dan’s Hard Trials are a pain because of the c.HP, it’s slow as hell and only combos if your jump-in hits “late”. Land that jump-in as late as possible then hit D+HP DF F+P D DF F+HP+HK, wait a bit, QCFx2+PPP.
If you want to practice parts work backwards, so do Legendary Taunt > Ultra, then Gadouken xx Legendary Taunt > Ultra, etc.

Hope that helps

Oh, I admire your taunting  but remember you still want to win so keep it down a bit. I generally only do jumping taunts away or regular and crouch taunts if they aren’t doing anything. Standard taunt if they’re dizzy and a throw away from KO

Hi man,

Yeah tell me about it. I was kicking myself. Going by his play style i was expecting him to jump in/fireball/ultra etc, so i started motioning my ultra, then he did his ultra and it made me fuck up somewhere. I almost tore my hair out, however i knew afterwards he was going to jump in. Lucky i just had enough life left to do it, in that match though i was confident of winning the next game.

This guy was rubbish though, so beating him meant nothing really.

I have a long way to go to be semi decent. I need to work on combo’s cross ups and fadc/fa more.

Thanks for the trail tip ill try what you said. What is QCF?

Quater circle foward.

Have you tried any other characters trials, I dont think dans are too difficult, just check out a video of his trials and you will see when how to execute. Then its just a matter of doing it. Due to dans inability to combo pretty much any normals( i think he cant at all period aside from a jump kick > insert normal here and multiple jabs/lk’s. You dont really have to worry about alot of those combo’s than involve multiple normals some of which are difficult to link(maybe not once you figure out the timing). ( take ken for example, comboing cr. lp and cr. mp)

I have a few fightpads (in case one crashes on me) and a Saturn controller. I’m still on the fence about getting a stick.

Finally got one replay up (my old was was for a G3-B championship :S). Dan vs Akuma. Was kinda lucky getting two akumas in a row there since they’re my easiest match up. Too bad I didnt meet the first akuma in the final, since it was a much more even fight. This akuma had no idea what hit him.

Didn’t actually expect him to do something so obvious and it threw you off? XD Noobs make good combo and punishing practice, and you know they’ll be so pissed losing to Dan where a half-decent guy would actually enjoy playing against a Dan who knows what he’s doing

“Half-decent” is probably how I’d describe myself :stuck_out_tongue: Dan’s cross-up is weird for me, quite a lot of the time I’m too fast on the s.MP and it won’t come out and just do Danku but if I were to try c.MK then no problem x_x;; It’s a great cross-up though, use it when you can, think after a back throw is the best opportunity for it.
Don’t really need to worry about FADCing much since you can’t FADC into Ultra (which is annoying >.<). Only ones I tend to use are Gadouken FADC’d into Kouryuken and Kouryuken FADC’d into EX Kouryuken, latter not so much. Others are just too hard for me :frowning:
Dan’s FA is pretty sweet, something I need to use more. But against certain people you don’t really get the opportunity to use it all that much.

Sucks that Dan can’t even do c.LP > c.LP xx Kouryuken though >.<

You can do one lp > koryu. I know for sure, (not entirely sure about cr, I will have to hit training.) I will sometimes do a s.lp > koryu on a corss up to score a knockdown.

FA is a powerful mind tool as well as effective for dealing damage, its a huge part of my game. If you pummel them on a couple of FA’s on their jumpins, (and they actually learned from it) you have effectively taken control of part of the game. They will either stop jumping in on you, or jumpin with something they would prefer not to do because their potential for dealing damage is reduced, empty/lp/lk. Its easy enough to call it as you see it on a jumpin so if they are jumping in empty or with light attacks to combo you out of it, you can dash cancel away.

FA used to never be in the equation for my game, when I really started incorporating it into may game, my win rate sky rocketed. (its very rare for me not to at least get to a final every time in g2) so I almost always at least score 3 wins in a row. About a month and a half ago - two months ago, i started practicing timing with it, I was at about a 51 percent win rate at the time stagnated and had about 5 final wins and 8 runner ups. I am at about 55.4 % and climbing now and have I have 40 sumthin final wins and 40 sumthin runner ups in g2 and I am at just over 13k GP, I was progressing really slowly ( i think I was at 4k ish bp before working on my fa game, and then just started burning through the GP.)

Yes, i really must work on my FA game, i just never remember to use it properly.

Its just annoying for me because the step up from g3 to g2 was massive for me, i went from winning most games to winning few.

I want to be as good as hibiki san, i swear i could watch that guys video’s all day long, his Dan is amazing, i watch some of this stuff he does, the constant pressure he applies, astounding.

It was the same for me, I was getting pimp slapped around when I first got in G2. practice makes perfect, the more you play the better you get as long as you learn from your experiences, adaptability is the name of the game.

Yeah Hibiki-san is no joke.

Honestly the AI is great for practicing focus attacks. Guile/blanka/fei long/bison are good FA partners because they will through out quicker attacks that are perfectly viable fa crumble situations, but require you to time your release, not like an HK sweep from ryu where its pretty much brainless to FA crumble those. if you can consistently FA crumble fei off his first rekka, you are getting the hang of it. Its pretty much reaction for me now, its like (for the most part, its not like i dont have a bad fa game now and again) its like my hands just know when to FA and do it.

I just recently beat a guy where I think I knocked off 3/4ths of his life in both rounds, off Fa crumble > cr. HP >HK danku’s. he sent me a message “You sure like to FA alot”.

Right then, as John Major used to say I’m going back to basics.

I’ll spend some time fighting the cpu.

That’s not really what I was getting at :stuck_out_tongue: c.LP > c.LP xx Kouryuken would be a hit confirm link combo into his Kouryuken. Ryu, Ken, Akuma can all do it, Sakura can do it into her Shou. Currently the only hit confirm Dan has into Kouryuken is MP > LP xx Kouryuken (can leave out the LP but gives you less time) but that’s a pretty crappy link combo :frowning:

I find that if I try to FA those bunny hopping shoto scrubs on jump-in I’ll end up getting an SRK in the face :frowning: Timing is too tight to get it off before an SRK and with online lag it doesn’t really help :frowning: Could probably predict one of their millions of c.HKs and FA that though.

John Major? Does that make you British then or just knowledgable about British politics? :stuck_out_tongue: (I’m the former :))

Yes i am British.

Good news, i managed to do that trial, though only from player two’s side, so i will still need to work on it.

Stuck on the next one now though.

I am also trying to master dan’s cross up combo as seen often in Hibiki San’s video’s.

I can do it maybe 30% of the time, more from player 1’s side. I cannot just use two fingers to do the combo, i need three and that’s what makes it hard as i am using the third finger to hit the HK danku at the end.

Occationally this does happen, and for me its mostly lag, its not very often though. like I said, if you can consistently focus fei’s first rekka against the AI (while probably requires some of the tightest timing out of most FA, crumbleable moves, you will be good to go on timing) It helps that I play fight request, and all I do while I am in arcade waiting for my next match is work on FAing.

I assume the cross up you are talking about is cross up mk > s.mp > hk danku? the mp combo requires a little better execution and takes some practice when using it on the cross up because the punch comes out so fast. you can also combo the s. HP version off the cross up, but depending on how your cross up hit the HP can be a little tougher to link off the cross up than the mp, thats why mp is the better choice, its easier to link off the cross up, the HP comes out slower so its much easier to link the HK danku. Every now and again I will accidentally do a crouching mp after the cross up jumping the gun on my hk danku input. I started off with the HP >hk danku on cross up, but the HP got blocked more often on the cross up, its very rare if you connect with the cross up, for the mp to get blocked.

Hey i have the full version of fraps, or i thought i did but it seems to cut my video’s off any where after 2:30 - 3 minutes, then starts a new video, why is this?

Hey all you serious Dan players, Idk if you’d guys be interested but DarthPaul is coming up with an interesting idea to get people together seriously and train hard…He made this thread for people that want to dedicate their time to maybe attend next years EVO or tournies.

Check it out:

http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=200770

Yeah there are basically two reasons why I bone up this cross-up combo:

  1. Too eager on the normal and it doesn’t come out :frowning:
  2. Too eager on the QCB motion and do a crouch attack :frowning:

Due to reason #2 it doesn’t really matter whether I choose MP or HP because HK Dankuu doesn’t combo with c.MP and c.HP will be too slow to combo :frowning: I guess if I go with HP then someone who’s slow might not block in time for the c.HP to hit afterwards whereas the HK Dankuu just won’t combo with the c.MP, hmm~

Hmm~ well if it’s not the full version then you’ll probably get “www.fraps.com” showing up at the top of your videos. If it is the full version then it might be something in the settings. It should tell you whether it is or not in the info bit.

I have the full version of fraps, would it have anything to do with me ticking half size?

Doubtful, I don’t have it installed at the moment so can’t check the settings :frowning:

Did you get the trial version then upgrade or something? Maybe you just haven’t activated it? shrug
