very easy to exploit in low level play, but he can be beaten. Takes some baiting, pokes, patience, but he’s beatable.
I think a lot of the people online who say they think Sagat is cheap are just people who ate random/wake up uppercuts and wondered what happened to their health. (mix in “he has the fastest fireball!1!1!!”)
At tourney level I don’t think he’s particularly overpowered, his damage and juggling capabilities are indeed madness but he’s not without his weaknesses…but one mistake and you are gonna eat a nasty combo usually ending up with a roundhouse or even worse, a roundhouse followed by ultra. Still, he has plenty of weaknesses to exploit.

This game is pretty balanced for a fighting game. I never got into 3s because it was so imbalanced, Chung Li was broken fast & did way to much damage. I have fought alot more Ryus than anyone else online. If Sagat was a free win you would see tons of them. I have seen probably twice the Giefs as I have seen Sagats.
recently switched to sagat and although he has a lot of weapons he still has to be played correctly…most good players have a strategy if you wanna try and spam a certain move with sagat so unless you are well rounded you will get beat by good players…so far ive found the people who get caught with the same crap over and over again complain he is broken.
I think the main reason why people call Sagat in this game OP is because I do one fierce tiger uppercut and like 20% of their life and they get confused and say “What the fuck just happened?”. This confusion then turns to anger in which they shout “Fucking Sagat!! Over powered motherfucker!!”. Then they will send me a very angry message and then give me neg rep and then post on these very forums to write a scathing post about how OP Sagat is.
All while doing this, they make sure that all their windows and doors are locked to make sure that OP Sagat doesnt walk in while posting. These people are probably all eating cake right now.

point blank sagat is overpowered high defense high strength easy to set up ultra fast fireball what more do you want. Now im not saying he’s not beat able cuz i main akuma an typically beat most sagats cuz MOST cant really play they just tiger shot all day an with akuma that aint gonna cut it. But for the most part it takes a lot more effort to beat sagat than other characters. Cuz of his high defense scrubs can make several mistakes in amatch an still win where as with akuma for instance one mistakeor two an ur done. So n all sagat is pretty cheap an can get you a lot of wins with little effort but against better players he is very beatable
Overrated. But in some of his matchups he’s a bit overpowered…my poor Sumo.
Same was said in CVS 2 Sagat. C.Fierce was too strong bla bla. It wasnt till ppl leveled up and when A-bison and A-Sakura were exploited then ppl complain less about him.
EDIT: Now that I notice, Sagat has been powerfull TOP in almost all his game appereances (ST: O. Sagat, CVS2: C. Fierce, SF 4: Damage). Was he good in any EX+ version of SF?
All that you said his true, but he does have some drawbacks to even out for his positives somewhat. Very slow, big target, kinda slow with the footsies.

Good point DRIAN he is slow an big so i guess u have to use that to ur advantage. I dont really mind sagat too much really cuz in the end every character in the game has some cheat things about them in this game. But i think its just that sagats advantages out weigh his disadvantages by a lot. Just like people complain about akumas air fireball an sagats tiger shot all day i say use what ur character has to ur advantage cuz every other character does its look at blanka an his balls or ryu’s fireball or vegas wall jump an dont get me started on zangief an his bs so use what ur character has an let the cry babies cry
I play Sagat and I don’t feel like it’s an uphill battle playing against people online. Whenever I play Guile, all the Sagat players just sit back and spam fireballs all day. So we end up playing the timer game.
pretty much… Sagat definitely is one of the best, if not the best characters in the game, though! But he definitely has drawbacks that people can exploit. That’s what makes the game fun, I guess!
I think Sagat is easy to get competent with (I’m talking scrub level here) but difficult to master because of his draw backs. The easier aspects of his game like bait and trap fireball type games (tiger shot, tiger uppercut/f+HK all day) will make newer gamers completely ignore infighting involving footsies and block strings. So for a scrub, he’s a flippin dream. But for the advanced gamer… well I think he’d take some work at. But don’t kid yourself, Ryu is harder to learn to play than Sagat, at least at scrub levels.
Ryu is more easy mode then Sagat IMO.
He doesn’t actually have exploitable weaknesses. Ryu is honestly perfect. You can’t fight Ryu. You have to fight the Ryu player.
Sagat’s HAS weaknesses that you can exploit.
It’s just that his great strengths can mask his weaknesses.
