Yo…they changed Gen’s jump arc. This is what I’m saying. That jump arc was BAD ASS. It made him fun and unique. Was it a bitch to AA him as a Sagat main? Yup. That’s what made him fun. The challenge of trying to stop that awesome jump arc. Now he fucking flies like he has gawddamn wings. It’s a joke!
So ALL DP type moves are massively nerfed? Really? For what possible reason? I am 100% convinced that this is purely to accommodate jump-kick-happy scrubs who insist on jumping around like morons and blame the game when they get knocked out of the air, exactly how they deserve to be.
“HEY, WOT DA FUX GUY, HOW CAN A PUNCH BEAT MY MIGHTY JUMP KICK? DATS FUKKIN STOOPID. DIS GAME SUXX”.
Like, how hard is DON’T FUCKING JUMP?
It’s not even going to fix anything. The scrubs are still going to lose, because, they’re scrubs and they’re just going to find some new thing to complain about to blame for their losses.
I think DP damage and frames got tweaked to make the game more aggressive. Before, even if the opponent didn’t have meter, a lot of times your mix up wasn’t worth it, since you could eat 190 damage from a random uppercut. If they had meter, it really wasn’t worth it, since they could safely go for that uppercut.
With DPs nerfed, it will lean the favor towards the aggressor, since eating that random upper isn’t going to do 1/5th of your health bar (and more if they have meter or ultra).
I know it sucks, but I honestly don’t see another way to make the game more aggressive, aside from taking away the huge reversal window and input leniency, which would make it where the kids couldn’t play the game, and thus, no good sales.
So, in short, I agree that the DP nerf was for the kids, but just not in the same way that you say… But hell if I know. We could ask Seth and see what Capcom is paying him to say.
Damn…they did Gen like that? Now he’s going to be even more one dimensional. LOL.
Personally I see it the other way around. DP’s being all buff in regular SFIV was for the kids. Now the DP’s are more mature and aren’t game winners like they used to be. Ryu and Sagat have to focus more on footsies and using EX dp’s for uppercuts sometimes. Ryu should never be walked into a corner. He has the best footsies in the game. If a Ryu player gets all rushed down on then he needs to pick up Rog or Rufus. As long as DP’s work relatively well priority wise on the ground it should be fine. The dumb shit was getting a bunch of free damage for getting one shoryu right that was safe on block. Which Capcom pretty much fixed.
Rose’s backdash sucking isn’t that big of a deal. In some ways Rose’s backdash would be a little too good to go along with the fact that she actually has a real offensive game worth worrying about in IV. She was basically a weak Viper in the regular SFIV because her combos did no damage. Now that she can combo into Ultra and will ultimately just be a stronger character period the one thing she had going for her over Viper was that her footsies were completely better than Viper’s. Rose shouldn’t be getting backed into a corner if you’re using her footsies well and now she will be a character that does real damage. So if she has a worse backdash to compensate…oh well. That means one less character to have to chase around the screen just to mount an offensive. When Viper gets locked down she’s free so yeah why not. Too many characters just get to slip and slide away from a bad situation in this game.
If Rose wasn’t such an ass character she wouldn’t have to worry about getting knocked down so much. Viper has to deal with all of that “I’m free when I get knocked down too” unless the opponent is sleeping on her wake up and she’s basically the random mid tier power house of the game.
What they have done is basically change Gen entirely. MK > Hands and his jump DEFINED Gen in SF4.
Gen in SSF4 is literally not even the same character.
Rose…yeah, that nerf sucks ass cause now its going to be the same thing: Knock her down and the round is over.
I’m salty as fuck right now…oh and the real lemon juice in the wound was what SKill said the other day about Gen: “No guys, he still has j.rh > Ultra, so he is still very good.”
SKill…dude I’m really losing respect for you lately…I understand that you may not have known about the nerfs when you said “Sagat got better” but being an apologist for the Gen nerf is really sad…please don’t piss down my back and try to sell me an umbrella.
These dudes did some testing with Sagat. TK damage is laughable and of course the threat level goes down in block strings since less damage = less chip. And as you can plainly see Juri can use low short to duck the knee and get a free punish like most of the cast in Vanilla.
Sagat still gets trade to step to ultra, but he must be air reset to do this so timing is harder. You will need to actively look for trades if you wanna get them now.
LMAO! Good stuff man. And sorry for using your post earlier as a springboard to troll this thread. I think I’m just salty that they’re not balancing super in the right ways.
Nah, it’s cool. This is my thing. We already know the game will be more balanced. That’s not the issue. I think everyone’s main concern is what you said. Are they balancing the right way? Are they making char’s viable, fun, and rewarding? And as far as I can tell. No, they aren’t. They are doing silly nerfs on mid tier chars and low tier chars, and doing cop out nerfs on Sagat like raping his damage and health which doesn’t even address what made him good and actually makes him a worse char overall then it would if they had addressed his OP traits directly. They are just going about it all wrong.
As a Chun main, I do definitely benefit from the changes (as we know them so far), but that doesn’t change my attitude that I feel a lot of what they have done is moving BACKWARD instead of forward.
Yup, totally agree. I would much rather have seen them fix his moves than these health/damage changes. Same thing with the Ultras. Making them do less damage doesn’t stop some of the players from having a ton of ways to land theirs while others don’t. You just don’t die instantly when you get hit by them now. More balanced? I guess. More fun. Probably not.
I hated facing Sagat as much as the next guy in SF4, but seeing all the things they’ve done to him seems kinda unfair. Only thing Ryu got was a 2 hit DP from the looks of it. Whoopee. They were close enough in power that either Ryu shoulda got raped nerfwise or Sagat shoulda just been minorly toned down. I’d prefer the latter. Now facing Sagat isn’t gonna be nearly as scary, if anything the match is gonna become even more boring than in Vanilla, which I didn’t think possible. And WTF at nerfing MID and LOW tiers…really? Gen needs nerfing Capcom? Are you retarded? He got faster wall dives in exchange for his most damaging setups and unique jump arc…sounds like a fair trade to me! Yeah…no. I know I whined about Sagat beforehand, but I didn’t expect this bad of nerfs, Jesus.
For the people that mained Ryu/Sagat…yeah sucks a little bit. The ideal situation of everyone just being super buff along with Ryu and Sagat just didn’t work out. I don’t really main Ryu or Sagat. Sagat is my secondary but I only use him to cover two matchups that are stupid difficult for C.Viper. Though ultimately what I wanted SFIV to get rid of more than ANYTHING else was shoryu and tiger uppercut landing netting 4-600 damage just for wasting 2 ex bars and trading on the DEEPEST jump ins possibles with no meter loss. That shit was dumb and it’s out and it makes me feel good. If it sacrifices some of Sagat and Ryu’s game…at least it’s not enough to throw them into Vanille Guile/Claw tier. They’ll still be both very viable characters. So far Ryu sounding just a bit stronger overall due to ultimately now having clearly better footsies than Sagat. Though if Sagat’s tiger shot and knee game is still buff and he still has buff HK’s and c.MP/c.LP he’ll do alright. s.LK still has its priority at least.
I definitely would have preferred that they made tiger knees not knock the opponent to the far end of the screen anymore but the damage nerf should make up for it I think. Though yeah Super isn’t the “everyone’s super BAD ASS” game Seth was touting. Viper didn’t get burn kicks that hit overhead and Dhalsim didn’t get ST worthy rushdown.
