Ultra 2 hits also crouching opponent
still the nerf on the st.lk is like… removing ryu’s crouching MK into hadoken :0
Alioune can you please clarify two things for me:
-
I keep hearing conflicting things… is Sagat’s trade TU > f.HK > Ultra gone completely? I’ve heard some say it’s been removed, others say it’s still in. (I for one would like to see it go so the bitching can stop)
-
Does U2 have the same setups has U1? If so why would we EVER need to pick it over U1 which looks like it does way more damage.
I fucking love your quote.
Yeah, that’s what I thought. Who cares when someone started to play fighting games? What makes them a noob is their attitude, not how much time they have doing shoryukens.
I started playing fighters in '92 when I first saw a SF2 cab and wanted to play so bad I started going to school by bike so I could pocket the bus fare. Does that make me better than anyone here? Hell no!
It does however probably mean I’ve shortened my life by a couple of years because of all the second hand cigarette smoke I breathed in those arcades from the age of 10 to 15.
Back on topic, does anyone know if sagat’s tiger cannon ultra can be done high or low like in some other games?
Ok, fine. I’ll play the game properly.
Trolliciousness aside, the point most people are making is that s.LK being nerfed is so detrimental to Sagat’s gameplay that he will essentially be broken, or at the very least that’s how everyone’s making it sound.
If your entire game revolves around one move so much that it means you could not win without it, then you’re either never played at a high level and you’re just plain terrible, or the move itself was a little overpowered to begin with. In other words, there has to be a good reason why Capcom is changing it.
Yes, I might have been trolling just a little bit because I’m at work and have nothing better to do, but I stand by my argument.
Oh, and to the guy who called me a scrub because I joined SRK recently, I still have my SNES World Warriors cartridge and a nice stash of old Wizard’s Castle aracde tokens if you’d like a photograph. I wasn’t aware joining an internet forum made me a better player, otherwise I would have done it sooner.
Didn’t call you a scrub, just saying you were saying dumb shit.
Fair enough.
Nah but it is very detrimental to his footsie game, watch any high level sagat ryu match and you’ll see how important it is to his game. See these games of alionue v daigo ft5 and you’ll see how vulnerable sagat is to ryu footsies even with the cancel.

His movement speed being so slow hurts him a whole lot.
I am very interested to see how sagat will approach his offense now that this go-to move is out. Should be fun! Although likely 50% of people will leave sagat.
It will be exactly like cl.mk : Two hits, only the first one is cancelable.
On Ultra 2 would it not be a good weapon in the Ryu and Akuma matches? As an example, you see Ryus take a fireball to give their Ultra, so in the same instance Sagat could do the same back against fireball heavy characters and in Sagat mirrors…if there be any based on the amount of people jumping ship?
I’m sure the scenario you’ve used as an example is right on the money. But in terms of choosing one to combo into, U1 seems to be the better option until proven otherwise.
Absolutely it’s a detriment. That’s what a nerf is.
If your argument is simplay that “Sagat can’t beat Ryu now”, then you’re forgetting that Ryu is arguably the only 5-5 matchup that Sagat has. How do you think Vega feels?
Again, the only thing I’m getting out of all this is “Now Sagat won’t be on top anymore”, not “Sagat will be bad”.
Something has to give with Sagat, and if not this than what else? It just seems like people are going to be dissatisfied no matter what happens.
Listen dude, no-one’s saying that the nerf is ‘THE END OF SAGAT ZOMG!!!’ (even though it may seem that way) but look at it from this perspective:
Your character has a tool that is very integral to the way he plays, and the way you’re used to playing him. All of a sudden, it’s taken away. This changes a lot. I for one am willing to find a way past st.LK being non cancellable, but it just means that once a character gets in footsie range… Sagat has really nothing he can do AS IT CURRENTLY STANDS. A few months from now we could be looking back at this thread an be saying ‘lol wtf were we scared of st.LK getting nerfed’ etc etc.
We all know he’ll still easily be one of the best characters in the game anyway so it doesn’t really matter.
Pretty much. Things will be tough for Sagat at mid/close range, even more than before.
I absolutely agree with you. It’s the people taking the “sky is falling” approach that I’m talking to.
My only point is that Sagat will be just fine in the long run, he just won’t be overwhelmingly on top the way he is now, and some people still seem to have a problem with that.
If you give a kid 10 lollipops and take one away, he’s going to cry at first, but he’ll eventually get over it because he’ll realize he still has 9 lollipops, just like everyone else.
Then my friend, we are on the same page.
I’m not understanding why this is true given:
Focus attacks got sped up.
Sagat still has TU FADC and TK FADC.
TK still breaks armor.
Is it fair to say he has nothing?
Isn’t it more fair to say: “Now at that range he will actually have to take risks like 75% of the cast”?
Alot of people are forgetting about sped up FA’s in Super…because some characters never needed to do them in SFIV. The dev team wanted FA to be the focal point around SFIV…much like parry was for SFIII. In the dev’s eyes, FA wasn’t all that importantly used…so by taking certain things away from Sagat and other characters(if anyone wants to jump in and name for me) at close range…yes, it forces more Focus Attacking and FADC’ing.
Everyone is just so focused (pardon the pun) on the negatives that they don’t see any positives.
People are going to keep complaining about every single little nerf until the game releases and they finally realize that their favourite character wasn’t destroyed after all.
As S-Kill said, the balance team is filled with some ridiculous talent, probably more so than all of SRK. We can’t possibly know exactly how gameplay will be affected just because we saw a laundry list of changes. I have faith that they know exactly what they’re doing.
