What the hell? All he really got was (as we know so far) a nerf in damage and HP, all that means is it’ll take a few seconds longer for sagat to own you and take a few seconds less to kill him, big whoop.

We all KNOW sagat lost cancel-able standing lk (verified last I checked, anyway). What matchups does that hurt sagat in? Do any 6-4s become even?
Any match where he gets outfootsied really badly and the opponent doesn’t have too much trouble getting in will make matches even or slightly favor the opponent. So just from match-ups alone I don’t think Sagat will have the juice to be top tier.
Is there anyone in particular? Vega or bison maybe? I’m just wondering who he’ll be worse against, to get knocked out of top. I’d suggest viper, but apparently viper already beats sagat? (news to me).
Viper vs Sagat is 5/5, but with less health AND less damage off of TU FADC step kick ultra it will DEFINITELY swing her way 6/4. Other match-ups where Sagat could lose out are Boxer in particular since once Boxer gets in it’s gonna be that much harder to push him out, probably Dudley for the same reason. Ryu I could see taking advantage since Sagat now doesn’t have health or raw damage backing him up and loses in footsies even more. Sagat will still lose to Gouki. Gouki lost the loop so what, Sagat is still huge and dies to Vortex and RH would still hurt his game. Chun becomes alot closer to even and so does Ken.
He still bodies certain chars from what I can tell. He will probably murder Hawk and still have advantage on Gief and several low tiers so he will be a good counter pick. I’m thinking he will be mid high tier or low high tier.
BTW just wanted to say those were some great matches you had against Free1up, EmblemLord. Watched em all, they were pretty entertaining. I wish I owned SFIV for my PS3 just so I could try playing you.

Sorry, I made the mistake of assuming that by “cancellable st.lk” people were talking about Sagat’s kara with fw+lk. I was then referring to Sagat’s f+hk. I now realize that that they were just talking about st.LK being canceled into specials.
Anyway, has it been confirmed whether Sagat’s karas are still in?

If he loses cancel on stand short it will really hurt his game. That’s really the tl;dr version of what I’m saying.
Standing short xx special (EX tiger shot, usually) is Sagat’s sole punish against a lot of stuff. Gouken’s palms and Fei’s rekkas don’t have to be as well-placed now against him (which is a good thing).
He’ll still beast Gief and probably Hawk, though. I’d wager Hawk will fare better than Gief, though (various dive kicks, and EX horizontal move thing might have similar anti-fireball properties to Gief’s EX hand).
I hate Gief in this game, but it seems like he’s losing tools and not gaining anything, and his bad matchups will still be bad (Seth, Sagat, etc). I don’t know what plan they have for him.

I doubt he’ll ever be low tier, he’ll be at mid end of mid tier at worst with the lost of that standing short cancel, if he still retains most of his stuff he’ll still be solid.

The sentence in bold is the one that i’m going to dig up after a few months the game’s been out but my “you’re drunk” statement was reffered to the rest of your post. How can 50 less life and a very slight damage nerf bring the matchup in viper’s favour?? Whoa, tu fadc f.rh ultra will do maybe 550 damage instead of 620, that’s really a big deal, viper still gonna have 900 health you know. You’ll just have to hit her with one more medium punch or tiger shot…Also the boxer matchup will still be in sagat’s favour even if the f.lk isn’t special cancellable…it’ll break armour so bye bye to all his rush punches…not that he has an easy time now with s.rh or the almost zero recovery high TS.
Chun li?? wtf??? The ryu matchup will still be 5-5, the only one where I can see him becoming worse is maybe against akuma, but I don’t think it’ll be more than 5.5 -4.5 in akuma’s favour
watched the free1up matches, emblemlord you got an solid sagat when it comes to knee lockdown vs his bison,good job. you should get xbl, if you played alioune he would level you up like you did to free1up.
I think if one plays a sagat like mago or alioune, sagat will still be the best character in the game.
That is what it all comes down to. How good is the player with his tools? Mago, for obvious reason, wins with Sagat because he uses his tools effectively and precisely. Tier list should not dictate your ability to win with a character, but to show you how much work you have to put in for each match-up.
i play with lance like once a week offline. he has a bad habit of always pressing buttons. you pressure him and you can bet he is pressing something. i counted at least six of those matches where EL started pressing him and lance just kept eatin counterhit TK’s. i make him pay for it, but not like that. good shit EL
Not just 50 less health sir 100. Sagat had 1100 now he has 1000. Yo if he had 1050 I would be ecstatic since that’s what I think they shoulda reduced his health to in the first place. The Viper match will DEFINITELY be affected by Sagat’s health and damage no question. Sagat can and does lose to Viper off one knockdown. Hell, even Mago does. With less health and damage off his ultra set-ups he isn’t going to be able to seal the match off that guess when he needs to as often which would give her the slight edge. I’m fairly certain Viper players would agree to this. Chun and Ken are 6/4 Sagat right now. All I’m saying is they become more around 55/45. Sagat will probably still beat them.
He’s still gonna be in the top 3, no way he’s ever gonna be “just” low high tier
