By looking at the most recent BP counts, it seems like Mago’s been pretty active in the SF4 circuit, not so much Daigo though, since most of his BPs earned looked like it came from the Daigo challenge (forgot what it’s called). But either way, it would definitely be a pleasure to see Sabin challenge Mago or Daigo to a set of 5 or 7.

yeah, i check his blog(Mago’s) from time to time, he’s been active, he won nagoya street battle and then went to nagano and beasted on everyone there with tokido, to quote parts of his blog:

look, ive been here for 45 days and already im a master. ther are people here with 3000 games played and still not master status at all heh.

its not like im gonna be automatically godlike when i come back, i can still see myself losing to the same people i lost to before i left. i just wanted to prove a point that a american player can hang in sf in japan, given that i have the same enviroment to train in as they do (strong arcade comp.) the only reason why justin doesnt do so hot in japan is because hes not here for long enough. japan style is weird at first, you get raped until you get used to their tricks, theyre not unbeatable by any means (but still strong players)

Surely BP means nothing, if you play crap people at easy arcades you can get 90% wins.

If you play Big Box you’ll have a low win rate, low BP, but be a better player…

even if you have 90% wins, if youre playing people with low BP youll never be a master. i agree that BP isnt as important as everyone thinks it is, but it still means a lot more than being G1 on XBL. My Master status was achieved by playing nothing but top players at bigbox/trf and various arcades around tokyo.

Yo Art, i had the pleasure of watching you work weekly break tournies in the past. I been reading this thread since the beginning and i really think you should consider writing a book or some type of journal on your trip. I know, it sounds outragous, but every post i read of yours is just as informative/interesting as the last. I and many people who read this thread may not ever have the opportunity to visit japan in a lifetime and i would be more the willing to buy and read a book of someone like you that has. Just a something to think about. Thanks for taking the time to post and answering every1s questions, much appreciated.

Doubt it hahaha, sure katakana and hiranaga is easy to read but not kanjis, even if he tooks japanese course. Maybe an intensive course (4-6h / day) for 2 years would do.

sim is just as rare as it is in the US

i played a few mirror matches but not that many.

Art, can you somehow tally who are some of teh characters you’ve felt were your greatest challenges that aren’t playing the known top-tier (Sagat, Gief, Ryu, Akuma, etc).

Also, i posted this awhile ago about some of the Ken strats being sick and hoping the Japanese would have thought of some stuff too, only reason is because i’m trying to switch things up, and i figured if they still have more tricks in the bag, (like i am certain Dr. Chaos does too), then there’s still hope for Ken to be one of those ‘underdog’ characters that can push to the top of high-level competition.

I know his most devastating combos leave sht at 50/50, and it pisses me off to no end, but i guess i’m still hoping. Sort of like how the console players (Gen, Gouken) are starting to get more recognition at high level, (partly because they’re not known as well for matchups, and because they still have tons of tricks up their sleeves).

So i guess my 2nd question is sort of where do you think Ken is, is it true that everyone’s seen mostly all there is to Ken, or are there some new tricks still in store?

sim is low tier for a reason.
he can win but he has 4-6 matches against almost everyone besides ryu/ken and sometimes gouki (if u dont get knocked down lol) you might think im downplaying my char but im being serious. theres a reason why iyo is the most famous sim, sim has hella hard fights and i see that being here. not impossible to win but def hard.

as for ken, people mostly know whats up with him. not like he cant win though in a tourney, but hes unpopular (low tier) fo sho. props to chaos for reppin with him as hard as he has.

Do the Japanese hate the " Indestructible " theme song as much as the West seems to?

when i checked 2ch (at the time of console release) they didnt think that theme song fit the game. though japan is mostly ARCADE culture, not console culture so that might not be a factor as much.

Sabin: Not a question, but a tip.

When you throw out a jab fire and then do IAT BnB cancel into Super, it does more damage to just hit the air fierce and cancel straight into Super, due to damage scaling.

i dont do this cause its harder to hit confirm super off raw standing fierce
its easier if i add b fwd

You have to have BP of 40,000 I think. Which he just got. Not sure if the win percentage has anything to do with it or not. I know it does for grandmaster though.

win percentage has nothing to do with grandmaster
it has to do with the BP of the top 30-40 players currently.
the #30 person has at least 105000 BP so I think getting grandmaster is not doable right now unfortunately. a few months earlier i could do it with 60k

bigbox comp is generally better than TRF so they going there instead of playing @ trf. trf is still dope comp during tourney time though.

And last, if I were to visit Japan, where would be a good place to go to play Sf4? I know arcades are everywhere there but where do you go to? or the top players?
