I am not going to hijack this thread with off topic nonsense (send me PMs or talk in the “Banned!” thread if you care to discuss it). Long story short, we had some small time local scrub level CVS2 tournaments in Virginia, and Arturo kept showing up every week to take the prize money. There was zero chance for any of us ever beat him, since we had no competition outside of tournaments, while he could play against the country’s best every day.
I suggested that just once we might try having one tournament without him, so that a local guy could win money for once, and tournament placings were based on something other than “who ran into Arturo last”. The idea was shot down and that should have been the end of it, but instead it turned into a retarded flamewar full of people who couldn’t understand why a recreational level basketball team might want to play one game against a team that doesn’t have Michael Jordan on it.
Congrats Art on getting that ranking, especially with a character like Dhalsim. And it’s just plain awesome that you basically moved to Japan to train in Street Fighter, thousands of people have dreamed about doing something like that but you’re the only one I ever heard of that actually did it.
Actually, this is pretty dickish. Also, I don’t think Sabin will win anything when he comes back to the US. If I’m right, neg rep me, and if I’m wrong, neg rep me. Win win situation for me.

Then Arturo could have still come and 2nd through 8th or whatever you paid would have more to play for.
How come Mago/Daigo/Akimo/Neurosis and other top players don’t show up to TRF anymore? It’s like they all quit.

Yeah but 2nd place would still inevitably be in 2nd place and for the tournamnet it was more about the pride of seeing who was truly the best of the MD/VA area. They didn’t care about a slightly better payout…that’s what jobs are for. They wanted recognition as the best in the area instead of 2nd best to Arturo. It doesn’t really matter though either way since in the end our tournaments aren’t sponsored or ran by a multi million dollar organization so if Art wants to come through…he should be allowed to come through bottom line.
Not that any of it matters 6 years later but yeah. It is funny how similar the MD/VA scene is 6 years later. He actually did the same thing to us like 2 or 3 months ago when a came to a Toyota sponsored event and took 1,000 bucks from us.:lol: MD/VA still got 2nd and 3rd which was like 500 and 250 respectively so in the end all good times was had and Steve H gave him a run for his money.
By looking at the most recent BP counts, it seems like Mago’s been pretty active in the SF4 circuit, not so much Daigo though, since most of his BPs earned looked like it came from the Daigo challenge (forgot what it’s called). But either way, it would definitely be a pleasure to see Sabin challenge Mago or Daigo to a set of 5 or 7.
