It’s cause they can’t use money from participants as prize money in Japan. They view it as gambling. So basically all prize money has to be put up from sponsors.

Arturo - thanks for a great look into the arcade scene of Japan, great thread to read through. A couple of random questions…
What do the Japanese players (and you) use to sustain marathon SFIV arcade sessions? Any Japanese version of Red Bull or some other energy drink? I think I heard you can smoke in the arcades, I assume you can eat and drink as well? Are there food courts in the arcades?
Have you heard of any good arcades in Kyoto? Great city to visit if they do.
What was your strategy when you played (and beat) Daigo and did it end up working out as you expected? (If he’s already discussed this some place else please post the link)

Sabin, I have a question about your matchups with Ryu. Do the Japanese Ryu’s have any creative ways of getting close to your Sim or is it just standard stuff?
Yeah no shit… I usually go directly after school so I can play some against the less skilled players because it’s BRUTAL later in the evening.
