My friend lived in Japan for a year and a half and the prices are about the same or slightly more expensive. The issue is Japan is on this whole “metabo” thing (Japanese wordage for metabolism) so portion sizes for what you pay for is nothing like the US. For what you could get for 10 bucks at most fast food restaurants or even sit down restaurants in the US you’ll have to pay twice as much to get the same portions in Japan. U ain’t sharing your food with no one else in Japan…that’s for sure.

How have Iyo / Shiro and Mago / Nemo looked after coming so close to winning SBO and falling short? Are they still motivated and showing up at the arcade to play/grind and level up their game even more?

From the Kara pics, both teams looked pretty devastated on the SBO stage, especially Shiro. Here’s hoping to them staying focused and not letting it get to them.

real interesting, for some reason i never thot of the money being the incentive but that makes a lot of sense.

so as a top tier player, do you think its hurting us as a community when we keep shit to ourselves? would we improve substantially if we worked together as they seem to do? or is this a non-issue?

You don’t need a top player to tell you that yes, hoarding onfo is hurting our metagame. Basically the pros keep all the super high level knowledge to themselves and only let loose at Nationals(Evo). Then the community at large finds out about it.

So for pretty much the entire year the majority of the community isn’t even playing the same game as the pros.

Hell yeah that shit hurts our community.

I watched URyo vs. Sabin and I’m really disturbed…you had the opportunity to really level up against URyo and instead, you used a character that he’d obviously not be familiar with. Do you really not care about improving and just want to win? Sure, you might have improved your Seth a bit, but abusing someone’s lack of knowledge isn’t going to level up your character nearly as much as if you had used Dhalsim, a matchup he’d know.

Or it could be that URyo wanted to play your Seth, but I doubt that was the case.

I got to play against Nuki at casuals at SBO, and I played next to Nemo for a few rounds at casual before the Shiozawa Cup.

SFIV Chun actually has a great toolset. She?s got a great mixup game, can get in fairly easily, can also play keep-away fairly well. The main difficulty with the character is that her options are all very specific to certain situations. For example, if Ryu jumps in at Chun with J.RH, depending on the distance and timing of the jump, Chun?s best options may change from S.MK, C.RH, C.MP, EX SBK, FA dash backwards, or just block it. As a Chun player, you have like half a second to figure out which option is best and use it.

Nemo and Nuki, they just knew. No hesistation, no mistakes. In this situation, use this. It?s the kind of knowledge you can only gain from a lot of experience with the character, as they have. Like many other Japanese players, they?re also really good at reading their opponents, as well as setting them up - baiting them into a specific response, and then countering with the best possible option. When I fought against Nuki, he kept getting me with sweep a lot. I had to take a moment and figure out that he was reading exactly when I was going to get up off DB and try to move forwards or backwards, and that?s when I was getting hit with sweep. He?d then safe jump in, and with my AA options pretty much null I tried backdashing to safety, but he?d already anticipated that and hit me with sweep as he landed.

They?re also really smart about meter usage. Meterless combos to start the fight, and so if they need to use it in clutch situations later on they have plenty. Plus, Chun with a full super bar takes away a LOT of options.

Nuki is really solid with his fundamentals, footsies, and spacing. He will just beat you methodically. Nemo is more or a risk taker. Chun has low vitality, so many people will try to be somewhat defensive with her late in the round to conserve health. Nemo will just go at you. Its not completely reckless - he does set up a lot of his attacks beforehand. I also noticed that Nemo will kind of take a beating for the entire first half of the round, and then just unleash a string of successful attacks and before you know it the round is his.

So that thing with Nemo could be data collection, although one may think it’s far-fetched against equally untouchable players. Perhaps it’s co-incidence, but if you find openings to note durings casuals… that’s good stuff.

Some cool insight to have on the character and the players, especially the potential mastery of her tools. Considering what you’ve gathered, where might you tier Chun Li?

I considered they’re successful because she’s able to shut down fireballs against the popular characters and use that space to set up her great footsies and close guessing game, but has a fair handful of troublesome matches that give her a hard time in a tournament with a lot of variety.

Even with them in mind, I considered her at the very edge of the top 10. What do you think?

Oh please, it was the only opportunity for Sabin to use his other character, since he can only play Sim in arcades. It’s EXTREMELY rare to get Japanese near a console version to session like we did, so art used that opportunity to play Seth.

LOL he was saving that Dhalsim for the tournament. Plus it was good console experience for Uryo. Plus Sabin is STAYING in Japan so he’ll have all the time in the world to play Uryo again. If it was you staying for a couple weeks or something…yeah I would worry.

Since you were at SBO you must have also seen Makoto defeat Tokido and Ojisanboy. Did the match look more like luck/missing matchup knowledge to you or were those two players simply outplayed?

I wish I got the dudes name, he was playing so solid that day then I never saw him again… His BP was not that high. Then again I would get raped by some super low BP cat only to find out they where a grandmaster that lost there card, or I would beat them and see them put in another card with a 60k + character on it…lol

I saw a guile like that when I was there fighting AmeriKen and Daigo… but his card had no name and he had lo BP… there is actually a super quick glimpse of him in one of my youtube vids from big box called “AmeriKen’s 15 win streak”. He went by No name though. I saw him take AmeriKen and Daigo to the clock almost every round because of his turteling and AmeriKen got really annoyed… I was wondering if your guile fights that way or is he really agressive and just picking Mago and Daigo apart.
