How have Iyo / Shiro and Mago / Nemo looked after coming so close to winning SBO and falling short? Are they still motivated and showing up at the arcade to play/grind and level up their game even more?
From the Kara pics, both teams looked pretty devastated on the SBO stage, especially Shiro. Here’s hoping to them staying focused and not letting it get to them.
You don’t need a top player to tell you that yes, hoarding onfo is hurting our metagame. Basically the pros keep all the super high level knowledge to themselves and only let loose at Nationals(Evo). Then the community at large finds out about it.
So for pretty much the entire year the majority of the community isn’t even playing the same game as the pros.
i didnt see this posted anywhere (sorry if it was) but the matches Sabin was talking about between him and uryo
I watched URyo vs. Sabin and I’m really disturbed…you had the opportunity to really level up against URyo and instead, you used a character that he’d obviously not be familiar with. Do you really not care about improving and just want to win? Sure, you might have improved your Seth a bit, but abusing someone’s lack of knowledge isn’t going to level up your character nearly as much as if you had used Dhalsim, a matchup he’d know.
Or it could be that URyo wanted to play your Seth, but I doubt that was the case.
So that thing with Nemo could be data collection, although one may think it’s far-fetched against equally untouchable players. Perhaps it’s co-incidence, but if you find openings to note durings casuals… that’s good stuff.
Some cool insight to have on the character and the players, especially the potential mastery of her tools. Considering what you’ve gathered, where might you tier Chun Li?
I considered they’re successful because she’s able to shut down fireballs against the popular characters and use that space to set up her great footsies and close guessing game, but has a fair handful of troublesome matches that give her a hard time in a tournament with a lot of variety.
Even with them in mind, I considered her at the very edge of the top 10. What do you think?
One for Sabin:
How’re your relationships out there? any jerks or guys you think should get out more? who’re the really chilled, cool players? the guy from out there you get on the best with?
Cheesiest playstyles, and your most respected player, perhaps?
Oh please, it was the only opportunity for Sabin to use his other character, since he can only play Sim in arcades. It’s EXTREMELY rare to get Japanese near a console version to session like we did, so art used that opportunity to play Seth.
Besides he asked Tokido if anyone was willing to play his Seth, and then Tokido asked the JP players, and Uryo was willing to do it.
I got Uryo’s contact info, so when Sabin comes to Osaka, I’m gonna call up Uryo, and Sabin/Uryo can session at the arcade with Sim vs Viper anyways. Stop with the ignorance please.
And the claw player at SBO that beat Ojisan boy and Tokido was the highlight of the SFIV tourney imo.
Yeah, that was way too good. Can’t believe that was only a first round match.
I’m thinking when Sabin comes to Osaka, that might be a good time to have another SFIV get-together. Give him a chance to play Seth, and give us a chance to learn how to fight the bastard.
LOL he was saving that Dhalsim for the tournament. Plus it was good console experience for Uryo. Plus Sabin is STAYING in Japan so he’ll have all the time in the world to play Uryo again. If it was you staying for a couple weeks or something…yeah I would worry.
Hey Sabin,
hope you’re having a great time there. I wanted to ask if you played against a Claw player (like Makoto or Reiketsu) yet. Since you were at SBO you must have also seen Makoto defeat Tokido and Ojisanboy. Did the match look more like luck/missing matchup knowledge to you or were those two players simply outplayed?
I saw a guile like that when I was there fighting AmeriKen and Daigo… but his card had no name and he had lo BP… there is actually a super quick glimpse of him in one of my youtube vids from big box called “AmeriKen’s 15 win streak”. He went by No name though. I saw him take AmeriKen and Daigo to the clock almost every round because of his turteling and AmeriKen got really annoyed… I was wondering if your guile fights that way or is he really agressive and just picking Mago and Daigo apart.
