No, BP depreciates over time if you don’t play, but I don’t think you would lose your rank once you’ve gotten one of the shogo titles.
I always believe that win ratio somehow contributes to rank too since ive seen people at diff BPs with the same rank etc… I dont really know for sure though.
@magman: i think that y24 player lives close, but maybe not in the city of nagoya. if it’s the guy i’m thinking of, i think he lives in anjo which is like 30 minutes away. there’s also another rad chun called mu??(maybe?) who i think is possibly a gifu player (again quite close to nagoya). i’ve only ever seen those guys at nagoya street battle though. then again the places with the best comp, i don’t go to very often because they’re not on my way home from work. i’m lazy. so maybe those guys are here in the city more than i know. overall though chun gets very little play in nagoya.
Makoto is the best CvS P-Groove player. He once lived somewhere with more arcades but he moved to Nagasaki, that’s why there aren’t many videos of him.
Really? Slam Dunk, Hikaru no Go, Rurouni Kenshin, Major, Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, Hagane no Renkinjutsushi… None of those popular over in Japan? Atleast for me here in Norway they are some of the most epic entertainment-pieces! Currently following Kekkaishi, Crows, Tough and loads of other great scanlations!
I would think even Manwha’s (korean manga) like Zero would be rather known for any manga-enthusiast.
Though i really did like some more obscure/unknown ones, Capeta makes my top list, prince of tennis until it became Dragonball Z Tennis >_< Regios no Kokaku is a recent favourite of mine.
Sorry to digress!! You jap btw Azrael?
Otakus loves anime/manga. Everyday/average people, not so much.
ding ding. And being an Otaku isn’t a good thing either. It sucks because if I go to japan and want to at least be considered normal/non-weird I gotta kinda give up one thing that got me interested in Japan in the first place. At least I’ll get a good whiff of the culture, women and arcades as stated previously. =P
No, he’s black.
Most of the ones you mentioned are popular among elementary school and middle school students in the 8-13 age range.
Normal people might have heard of them (probably have), and the normal response is “oh yeah, my little brother watches that”
Lots of people read manga, tho, especially at book-offs and stuff. But obviously manga falls under a broad category. It’s like saying “i read comics.” You could mean you read Garfield in the newspaper or you occasionally buy an archie comic, or you collect every issue of Uncanny X-men thats been released in the past 10 years, you know? Saying “I read black-jack” is way different from saying “I read the “Fate-stay Night” manga!” and theyll be like “umm ok” cause they won’t know what it is.
Ikaru - Being an otaku isn’t a good thing, but its possible to watch anime and like it without being an otaku. hfz said that otakus LOVE anime and manga. Normal people might kinda casually like some stuff, but yeah, its really just about going overboard. You can go out and have fun and make friends and drink and meet girls and stuff, and whether you watch anime or not doesn’t even matter. It’s more like, if you’re going out to those places and talking about how cool you think the last naruto vs sasuke fight was, then it’s more of a personality thing rather than interests.
Tho I’ll be honest, I stopped collecting that sorta stuff because yeah, it was hard to look at my anime figures and feel good about myself…but yeah, not for this thread, lol…
so do adults read mangas like vagabond, berserk and blade of the immortal? since they are more serious and less loli bait than the average manga/anime the people over here in the manga/anime threads all love. so these freaks exist both in japan and the US… lets not forget rest of the world.
Hey Art! I recently saw a vid of you vs Neurosis Dict. How good are the remaining Dict players over there? Anyone of them gives troubles to other top players?
Hm, I still have a few collectible things around from my younger years. As much as I love Macross/Robotech I think it’s time to get rid of the veritech figurine(fully transformable) I bought when I was 15 from my first anime convention. It’ll be tough to get rid of my death note wallscroll of misa or the puzzle fighter wallscroll. I don’t have much anime anymore, haven’t cared to buy any.
I think I’m slowly falling out of it all together really. I don’t even keep up with the mangas I used to read every week. I just play SF4 and try to get better. I see where you’re coming from though, I definitely don’t take it into excess like some weeaboo/otaku freak.
So being a geek about anime/manga is taboo everywhere.
Damn.
Still no vids up on nico of the TRF sabin got 3rd in?
Otaku just mean geek. it doesn’t have to be anime or manga. There are Harry Potter Otaku in Japan. PC, video game otaku. read manga doesn’t mean your an Otaku because almost everybody reads manga in Japan. As long as you not obsessed over it.
If you play SF4 for more than 3 hours a day everyday, you are an Otaku.
uh less weeaboo nonsense please…? More advanced sf4 ideas and jp gameplay comparisons for art? More forest fires plz?
Otaku does not equal geek. It has a much more negative ring to it - and three hours of playing (whatever) every day does not make anyone an Otaku. Please don’t try explaining stuff you know nothing about.
A big :wow: at SAKO playing SF4 and raping everyone…ever since i started playing VS the dude’s been a god to me, the guy’s execution is inhuman.
shit that chun tutorial was tight. i know there are very well documented zangief option selects, and all the vortex people seem to discuss here (abel/akuma/etc) but i’m sure there are many other advanced strategies that a lot of people know about in japan, but only very select few know in america.
it really is not that we want to bite off japanese or pros or anything like that. it’s a matter of resources. sure i can take 8 hours over a weekend and try to figure out what option select safe jumpin dp beats which characters most likely wakeup moves and form a table or something.
i physically can and i think i’m smart enough to make it extensive. however, i just don’t have the time. but just because i don’t have the time to do testing, doesn’t mean i should be exempt from knowing this, and quality of gaming will increase for everyone involved if this knowledge was easily shared and acquired.
i know there are tons of guys who do great work, translating blog posts, posting videos, testng things, etc. i thoroughly thoroughly appreciate it and i’d give you all a pat on the ass if i could (hahahhaha).
but yeah, just wishful thinking that the game would be 100% figured out and have those info widely available for a ‘casual’ gamer like me can enjoy the matches i play at a pro level.
Comes to mind.
Glad to see a lot more American presence in Japan. Good shit, Sabin.
