There is nothing inherently better about their players genetically or anything. Art and ameriken have proven pretty well I think that given the same situation(an arcade with high level play every day right down the street), americans are just as good as they are and I really look forward to next year’s SBO if our top players keep visiting japan and taking advantage of their situation like they do.

The statement that our top players are as good as their “high intermediate” is probably true tbh…simply because of the much better arcade situation that they have. However, it won’t be true for long if our top players keep playing over there with them. There is nothing inherently better about their players genetically or anything. It’s not just playing more in Japan…the entire mentality of the US needs to change…their goals, their determination, it’s just so different.

Where a lot of americans here would react to winning a tourney by gloating about it and celebrating, the Japanese would mainly shrug their shoulders…why? Because their goals are far beyond just winning the tourney, it’s about truly mastering the game. In fact, some Japanese players even show a lot of disappointment after winning a tournament, because they are not satisfied with the quality of their performance, regardless of the fact that they won…their goals are far bigger than the American’s goals which generally seem to be to get as much money as possible from winning, or to increase your own reputation through being labelled as a winner of X tournament. The majority of Japanese are beyond that as people.

When people start drifting away from Sabinism or Marnism mentalities, then the US might be able to advance.

I think trash talk exists everywhere, even in Japan. I have seen Americans take it a bit far sometimes. I also think this East coast-West coast nonsense is ridiculous. I would like to see Americans stop bandwagoning every time a certain character wins a tournament or trying to counterpick all the time. It just ends up making them average with a bunch of characters instead of being great with one or two.

Also, grats to Sabin on the tournament showings. Keep it up.
