wtf? You have a link to this video? LoL…
not that much different from playing in the us. most of the time i still feel in control throught the whole match. main diff is, their executon is on point and if they get in, HHS setups are brutal and take off at lesat 60% if honda has super. hes not as bad as USA thinks he is imo, because we havent mastered the cheapness in hundred hand slap setups yet. as long as i keep my fireball trap going though im in control.
even if there was a announcement, we all know sf4 dash is coming anyways, so dont even stress it. only game announced at tougeki to the best of my knowledge was arcana heart 3
winners dont do drugs
also its not worth it to try to find that shit here, considering how xenophobic japan can be torwards foreigners. ive been stopped by police plenty of times in the years ive been here asking for my passport. so i aint fucking with that.
newsflash - japanese players talk shit just like the rest of the world. i hate when people assume they are humble esp when they dont speak japanese. of course not everyone talks shit. if youve ever watched a trf ranbat the announcer is talking hella shit and laughing at the players. i believe mago has talked shit before too. i could be wrong on that one tho, but yeah, they get hype in tourneys just like we do. its a diff kind of hype tho.
i havent played neurosis or any of those guys. i played kim once and he beat me pretty solidly. his style is more reserved and patient than say, twistedjago (andres) bison. i dont know which style is better vs me though…i have to play kim more to really come up with a informed opinion on this, or other jpnese bisons for that matter.
craziest trick ive seen so far off the top of my head was mago vs tkd, mago knocked fuerte down and did crossup tiger knee on his WAKEUP into ultra…connected midscreen. that shit is some straight up BS, lol.
japanese players give each other advice iirc and spread information freely. new strats get dissected really quickly whereas we save that shit for nationals…since there money on the line. i guess because there is no money, no incentive to save shit besides glory.
also, yeah they do know we exist. desora walked up to me and kara at sbo and introduced himself. desora knew who i was and he also knew that i played sim/seth. some players acknowledge me others dont maybe because they cant speak japanese. and before ppl ask, yes, top japanese players are well aware that im the daigo killer and quite a few ppl gave me props on that. :china:
so yeah, some people do follow us. i get the impression that they respect our game, unlike us, where we IDOLIZE them. cant beat someone you idolize.
aquarius owns pocari sweat imo, YJDK
thats the last question i would really ask when talking about sf. my execution hasnt gotten worse since ive gotten older. ive always had sloppy execution and age isnt a factor in this.
depends on the BP disparity.
i beat daigo several times and got 300bp each time. btw like i said before BP doesnt tell the WHOLE story. its just like xbox live/psn, people can have a shitload of points and still be average, the average 20k bp player at bigbox is usually better than a 50/70k bp player from another arcade. reason is its so hard to streak at bigbox so they cant rank their BP up
what if i told you i was staying in a japanese dormitory apartment with 3 other japanese dudes that dont speak english in shinjuku and paying 45,000 yen per month? without internet so im takign time to post this at a internet cafe? at this point i would be happy to stay in a gfs hosue in tokyo. eat a dick fyi, i cant believe you would post this stupid shit and not have a question about sf4. too bad im not a moderator anymore you woulda been banned quick.
im down to share but im not down to break down how to teach people how to beat me necessarily. right now im in a japan mindset but giving strats and tips is kind of thankless when srk is full of idiots sometimes like the guy i just quoted depends on my mood.
i dunno why youre asking me this. i dont hate marn and yeah we talk just fine irl. hes a good sf4 player even if i get pissed off at him being random sometimes, marn is just marn.
as for my latest playing sf4 update…
tonight i was at bigbox, not many people were there but i had a long set with Fuudo (Ryu) and Daigo tonight.
vs Daigo, I went about even as usual, he still plays the same way he did when I played him in the money match. and yes hes cordial to me when i greet him.
fuudo is a bit difficult to play against compared to daigo cause he trues to rush that shit down. this match is 5-5 if he gets me in the corner, he makes me guess between throw or ex tatsu into ultra nd im fucked. if i dictate the fireball pace and push him back im in control for most of the match. he probably had a 60/40 ratio on me the whole night so i dont think i did too bad.
abel player here got at me though. seems when i lose a lot of matches its due to random focus to get in close then i get vortexed when they get in my face.
btw, Iyo considers sims hardest fights to be fuerte/rufus/abel. i agree on rufus and able but i dont necessarily agree with fuerte being sims hardest fight. its funny that he doesnt consider viper to be a hard match esp considering he got smoked by viper at sbo with almost a perfect.
im trying to take some vids with my blackberry, but quality is low and i dont have wifi at my house so if i get time i will upload them
Sabin,
What is the difference in playstyle between American Rufus’s (J.Wong Style) VS. Japanese Rufus’s? (Kindevu style)
Hey Sabin, thanks for this thread, it’s pretty cool. Maybe find the kindness in your heart to start up the sim Q/A again?
I’ve always wondered this, but in most match vids Japanese players seem to never skip the character intros, while here we don’t really give a fuck. Any word to that?
Good shit Art. So do you feel that you are going to take it to the next level after Japan? Also how is the crew you are over there feel about the improvements they are making? Are you just playing Sim or are you using different characters also(second main)?
I doubt all the Japanese Rufus’s all play alike. I mean, Gosho, Kirisuto, Kindevu, Naiki are all different people with different playstyles so grouping them up together is like asking how does America play boxer (there are like 100 different boxers w/ their own playstyle)?
Other than AC Revenger, who do you think is very underrated at big box? People say bonchan is also overlooked but do you have any personal opinions of who doesn’t get enough recognition as a talented or smart player? Gosho until he won SBO was an American no-name (probably cause of no vids).
Played/Noticed any top Japanese Sims besides Iyo? Or is he head and shoulders above the rest?

dayaaam, can’t imagine playing sf4 sober, winners dont do drugs but losers will have more fun. :smokin:
I think Japanese players play differently and use characters different than Americans do. Hence, why they’re better in general…
What you can get away with against players in America will not fly in Japan and this could be vice-versa.
And I disagree with not being able to group a countries’overall character playstyle. Balrog is actually a character a lot of people think is actually overall better played by Americans compared to the Japanese…
Yeah I like Viper for being one of Dhalsim’s toughest matches.
Are you still hungry?
What up Arturo?
What’s good?
:smokin:
Did you not read Arturo’s comments like 2 pages back? He said the whole myth that Japanese boxers < American boxers is dumb and that America still has shit to learn, boxers included (1 month behind). Just cause the vids show boxers playing less aggressively or doing strange things, doesn’t mean they’re worse. It means they’re trying to prevent problems from arising that we can’t infer from just watching through videos (oki shenanigans, bad spacing, ultra setups, etc.).
Just because the Japanese beat us, doesn’t mean it’s cause they all play a certain way. While in general, they seem to play less aggressively, they still have certain players that don’t fit the norm (a lot of them actually). Honestly, I think the Japanese win more often because they think more. They question why they’re losing very early on in matches and fix shit instead of just auto-piloting shit.
How hard do you think it would be to show up at Big Box and play these guys if spoke no Japanese and didn’t have a BP card? How easy is it to get the card?
XD i always thought it was fuerte’s specific until i did it against Ken in match.
You realize you just buy cards at the arcade right? You don’t win em or anything. It’s a lot like the tekken system where it tracks your record and bp and uploads to the internet bp tracker. You can check bp with ur phone in japan cause the whole place is a giant internet cafe.
Bigbox has 6 h2h setups, 3 left, 3 right. The better players usually play on the right side. This is what haunts says at least.
I saw a post in this forum awhile back that said you could rent a Japanese phone, and then you could use it to get a BP card. So I figured a phone was a requirement for one… if it is just the machine though, then it must just work like the Initial D machines… pay some extra money the first time, get the card, use it from there on in.
Eh I kinda worded that poorly. You buy the cards at the arcades for around 500 yen and you do have to register them I believe which requires net access. You can rent phones for that reason. It’s not like ID.
In all honesty, Japan has some of the most draconian drug laws on the planet. In the 1970’s when they outlawed heroin, the punishment for mere possession of butsu (heroin) was death.
When that happened, gangsters who controlled girls (prostitutes) hooked on heroin were known to tie the girls to a bed until the withdrawal symptoms passed. Med student’s can go through their careers never having seen a single addict, and there’s a reason for that.
real interesting, for some reason i never thot of the money being the incentive but that makes a lot of sense.
so as a top tier player, do you think its hurting us as a community when we keep shit to ourselves? would we improve substantially if we worked together as they seem to do? or is this a non-issue?
good to hear they gave you props, hahaha.
thanks for the thread man.
