This is probably a newb question that anyone can answer but, how come when I watch japanese people play, they get to keep their battle points saved? and their character saved? Is there some sort of card?
Yes, japan has a card battle point system. One character per card, and you cant have two same characters under the same name. And lotsa other customizable stuff.
Sabin do any of the grandmasters ever mess around with different characters? I’d love to see Daigo/Mago/Nemo ect playing as completely different characters.
Also sabin…have you ever tried playing rush-down dhalism? I only play as dictator but when I am drunk or feel like messing around one of the things I do is play Sim like I play dictator and do stupid shit like get in zangiefs face and threat to FA him on his wakeup and shit and try and cross up shotos (does Dhalism even have a crossup?).
It would be a dream come true if I could watch a pro attempt the same style dhalism… ;p
Ojisan Boy is a Grand Master Sagat I believe and he plays a pretty mean Abel.
Mago and Dragon Boy too.
the mago vid is old though, but the ojisan boy and dragon boy is still recent post-sbo:
hey sabin, i will be going to japan on the 22nd sept till 30th. hoping to be able to meet up with ya so theres at least someone that i can communicate with in english
if i wanna go to bigbox which hotel would you recommend me staying at?
wife is coming along so yeah… no shady places though
Momochi has a Ryu at like 28th in BP and his Akuma is around 11th in BP
Also Sabin what kind of corner game to Japanese Gouki’s use? Is along the line of spaced air fb->mix-up or do they play a footsies game. I don’t see much of this in vids and wonder what they think is safe because they all play helllllla safe.
I’m curious as to what Japanese players complain about (if anything) in SF4. Like character balance flaws or abusive moves etc.
Chances are, if we ever do get a SF4 Dash, the feedback Capcom of Japan would pay most attention to would be the feedback they have easy access to…i.e. feedback from local players.
how are the more “known” Japanese players treating you? Are they more respectful because they’ve played with you? you guys hang out afterwards ever? or they just be bitches and taunt you all day as well?
To address the whole Japanese players taunting Arturo thing.
I mean, I wasn’t actually there, but I think it’s a pretty rare thing in Japan(atleast for SF4). If it does happen, it’s usually amongst friends. The one exception is Kuma(Grandmaster Bison player).
Quick story time… Hitting the body after the round is over in SF4 in Japan for whatever reason is considered rude. They even have a term for it, but I forgot what it was. It doesn’t really make sense because Japanese players do it all the time in Third strike and other games. But in SF4 its widely accepted that if you do that, its rude, and you trying to start some shit. Ironically it happens more in tournaments because I think it’s a way of showing the opponent you ain’t taking their shit.
Anywayyy, this hoe Kuma gets really offended by it and whenever he plays foreigners they always do that to him. He doesn’t like me for that reason alone. Awesome. My guess is either he is lumping Arturo with the other foreigners and taunting and thinks Arturo is an after round body hitting SON OF A BITCH. OR Arturo’s style was so annoying and he was beating him down so bad he resorted to taunting.
damn, i do that from time to time (hitting them after knocking them out)… i got used to it since whenever i play cpu i do that lol… though sometimes after knocking my opp, i jump and whiff some move on purpose or if they’re falling over me i’ll backdash or something… so ive been rude all this time haha
I see jap players do it in vids though.
I love smacking people to the ground with Viper’s b+HK when they die. Especially after hitting them from a standing position with a light attack. You see them cringe for dear life about to fall to the floor and then you help them taste the dirt faster with a heel to the forehead and they go crashing down to the floor head first.
Theres always the exceptions. Mago and Nemo always do it to any opponent. Japanese players know though that Americans always do it, so I think in general they don’t mind it if a foreigner does it. Yup, this issue is just that serious.
BTW, if you use bison always hit the body with bison’s far stand fierce. Include some up down jiggling right before you punch them for added effect.
there were ALWAYS dicussions about this among VF players aswell. SEGA actually went and took out the possibility of even touching your opponent after a KO because of it.
I always do it in any game. Even had particular post KO routines with Goh in VF lol.
Sabin, have you played against any japanese Claw yet? If yes, how was he?
Can you please tell Kuma to put up more videos of his Dictator? Pleasee?
You 2 damnit. Seriously I see only like 1 new dictator vid a month.
BTW do you know what happened to Riki? The Dictator that made it to the semnifinals in the Japanese tournament in January before losing to RF? He was hilarious to watch because he was reckless and insane.
Too bad you can’t taunt after you KO someone, like in 3S. I can imagine Mago owning up people and then do Sagat’s laugh taunt. That shit would be GREAT!
LOL oh man i pretty much always did this every game i played, jab fadc jab, etc. oops.
