Saban re-acquires Power Rangers from Disney. Possibly airing on Nick

I’m aware but when most people get older that unavoidable ability to think with common sense and apply logic to things that we let slide as children kicks in. Its how many shows that we may love due to nostalgia we still must gruelingly admit are perhaps not as good as we once thought. The sensibilities of a more mature mind make the holes more obvious and the nonsense begin to unravel.

Not really talking about PR in particular, but shows in general.

reminder: power rangers samurai airs tonight on nick! I’m fairly sure it will be bad, but will watch anyway.

Tonight’s the night. Here’s hoping it doesn’t flop because it would be nice if I could talk to my students about something they watch, like Power Rangers.

To get hyped, I’ve spent the past several months watching old episodes of Power Rangers, one episode a day. I’m right now on Season 2 and it holds up surprisingly well.

Well, season 1 does not hold up that well, at least until Tommy, the almighty King of all that is PR, shows up.

After that, it really does hold up, Season 2 good, Season 3 not as good as Season 2 but good. Zeo, good. Turbo…meh (god damn you Justin). Space, amazing, definitely top 2, if not the best season of PR. Lost Galaxy, really good. Lightspeed…meh. They all bore me, though I respect having a completely PR, non-Sentai Ranger. Time Force, definitely among the tops. Wild Force, too preachy. Ninja Storm, pretty good. DinoThunder, great and it brings back the almighty King of all that is PR. SPD, great, especially the beginning. Mystic Force, meh. Operation Overdrive, terrible, other than Once a Ranger, which brings Tommy’s second in command, and our lord and savior JYB. Jungle Fury, really bad other than the last Casey/Jarrod fight. RPM, damn great.

We’ll see…we’ll see.

  • best one for Disney yet… and look at that: they actually casted more races again. lol I wished they did more with that timeline. There were some dumb moments, but I had to remember that they were relying on Sentai footage. Especially with the veteran writing talents… which leads me to…

  • I’m still for In Space being the best one that Saban put out. Even over Season 1 since this gave the Power Ranger series a climax. The cameos actually drew into the story. Even Justin was useful. I mean, Justin. Tommy should have got into that season at least once since it was litterally Zordon’s last stand. Bringing back Adam was also a good move on that show. His limitation didn’t make him as powerful as his extensive experience with monsters did, but it was enough to teach Carlos the lesson. And… the psycho rangers! They should have came back in EVERY series following In Space. Get passed around like hot potatoes, coming back to kick the crap out the rangers. That, there, is what stuck out for me about In Space.

Couldn’t have put it better myself!

Yeah, watching Season 1 over again I noticed that a lot of the episodes were interchangable and didn’t add anything to the story. Season 2 so far has been much better at creating a story that’s built up over each episode.

lol ninja storm was the best season outside the og series imo. as well as dino thunder, i stan hard for those seasons.

So…that first episode…how about it?

Oh shit, it already aired?

I caught the tail end, they aren’t believable as modern day American teenagers, but they don’t seem cookie cutter either. The Samurai Megazord seems a little clumsy, and the Bear scene attacking Fisto (I called him that) had me rolling.

I don’t know. Lost Galaxy, Dino Thunder and SPD gave me a more serious PR cast and mature plot lines without going out of the realm of kiddiedom, and until I rewatch this episode I have mixed feelings.

Yeah, an hour ago.

I give it a 3 out of 5.
They went more “Teen Titans” with this episode giving us the action first. I’m pretty sure next episode we’ll see how they all assembled.

I guess to prop themselves up, they went back to the corny style, I can live.

Way to corny. I cringed a lot.

Also, I’m a bit confused. Was there a pilot ep where it was explained how they got their morphers and such? Like its Sentai counterpart? If not, then Saban is fuckin’ up.

Did you miss last season, where they did THE EXACT SAME THING? Or Goseiger in Sentai? This isn’t new.

yeah basically. It wasn’t until the 2nd episode where they finally had like an expository explanation on how the rangers got there powers and such. This was a smart move on Saban in throwing in a episode that gets straight to point and keep you hooked.

Yeah, unless you’re willing to do an hour special, to get the two episode start, it’s best to start like this.

I thought it was odd that they skipped the introductory stuff. all the previews and teasers showed stuff from what would have been the equivalent of the first episode of shinkenger, but whatever. more action.

I’m happy the premise is exactly the same, and they kept it pretty damn japanese. even said “sanzu river” and usukawa dayu is still called dayu.

good show, saban.

Well people on rangerboard beg to differ unfortunately. I was reading through there thread and while they have some good points. Its ranging from people hating on it big time cause it was apparently aired out of order to people feeling it was literally dick riding MMPR nostalgia which i really don’t see the problem with that.

Okay, I can destroy both of those.

One, do they have proof it was aired our of order? Even if it was, this is how you debut a show that you’re not sure you’re getting viewers on, unless you’re doing an hour special.

Two, so what if it rides nostalgia? Saban hasn’t repped this in years. It’s best that he eases back into this. On top of that, RPM was MASSIVE nostalgia, and that shit was amazing. Sure, this is repping the more corny side, but for getting back in the saddle, it’s livable.
