I love shinkenger to death… but this just looks horrible. I still have high hopes that it will be good. from the brief trailer I got that:

PRS blue swims - so he’ll probably have to give up his dream of being a professional swimmer to be a ranger. original blue was an aspiring kabuki actor; I was hoping PRS blue would be an aspiring shakespearian actor. shinken blue was a total overdramatic ham, so I was hoping for something in the same vein.

PRS pink looked like she was at a school/daycare? looked close enough to shinken pink’s origin.

PRS yellow still plays the flute in the woods like shinken yellow.

I think the wisecracking guy that put his hand on the mentor/teacher/jii guy was green, so that works.

red seemed a bit too happy and not a badass loner-type that shinken red starts out as.

I’m sad they did away with the hakama / kimono samurai garb and all now wear sleeveless cobra-kai gi. the samurai garb really made the henshin/rollcall that much more badass.

genta, the gold ranger

genta was takeru’s (shinken red) childhood best friend. where takeru was being trained to be the head of the shiba clan, genta was the son of a local sushi chef. at some point genta and his family moved away, but genta promised that he would return to support his best friend in any way he could.
years later, genta reappears as shinken gold. though not formally trained, he has a high amount of mojikara (chi? chakra? mana? magic? MORPHING POWER? I have no idea how to explain this) and his fighting techniques are entirely self-taught (using iaido / battojutsu as opposed to the kendo the other rangers use). he has no talent for kanji/calligraphy (like the main five), so everything he does is with his cellphone (sushi-changer / morpher). everything he does is sushi-related since he was raised as a sushi chef (he has squid and lobster zords, his sword is sakanamaru - ‘sakana’ meaning ‘fish’) and his samurai skills are all self-taught. so anyway, he comes back and can fight, and can use his high levels of mojikara to create new zords and be kind of a tech guy for the team. not everyone accepts him at first, but his prowess in battle, overall goofy nature and desire to fight for justice win everyone over.

In other news, if some of you haven’t been following…the actor who portrayed the Red Ranger from the 2002 season “Power Rangers Wild Force” (Cole, Rick Medina) is said to be apart of the new season. Fans are specualting that he will be playing the role of the villain from Shinkenger, Juzo.

shinkenger fans, get ready to rage.
how many people are going to watch it?!
lol a bunch of us…and then quit when it turns horrible.
I’ll watch it and TRY to keep an open mind about it.
after watching that short preview again a few things bug me.
the morph: its SO CLOSE to the original. they still have the phones - they look like the shodophones, but they don’t fold to become paintbrushes. they keep the stroke order down in writing the kanji in the air, but they don’t hold the phones like brushes when they write… but I guess they don’t have to if they’re not brushes anymore? it just seems weird to me that they’d go so far to make it KINDA like the original, why not just make it all the way like the original? then the inexplicable pseudo ninja masks under the helmet and the armless cobra-kai karate gi. they’re samurai rangers, not ninja or karate rangers.

the other thing that bugs me is the dialog they dub over the fight, mainly red’s “we can do this together guys!” you can CLEARLY see he doesn’t give a crap about the other rangers when he summons his big-ass sword and starts killing stuff. I didn’t like shinken red for a while until he lightened up and started trusting his comrades. what the other rangers said is mostly the same / close enough.
pink and yellow are cute.
all that being said - I REALLY have to lighten up and not be so hard on the new season. I want it to succeed, I really do.
When you say Shinken is that the name of the original PR show that Samurai is going to be “based” off of? What happened to Sentai?
