I thought her overhead hurtbox was suppose to be adjusted? Im still getting thrown and swept when shes in the air. An Akuma slide his foot with cr.mk and she flew out.
OK… discovered something, but it may be due to to my scrubbin-scrubenheimer status still (got to gold, back to silver… thus is life on the SF ladder).
Crossup-LK and buffer sunset wheel to catch it on landing. It may be the match-up, but I found this to be extremely safe to the point my opponent had to actively dash instead of block the cross-up due to me doing it 4 times in a row sometimes.
Effective against: Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Karin, and Balrog so far.
If somebody with more technical understanding of the game can explain the actual frame data on this, or if it is just inexperienced fighting the inexperienced, let me know.
j. LK doesn’t have a very long blockstun and the charge buffer in this game is big enough to let you input the command motions way before you will confirm them. Most people mash reversals as soon as I cross them up anyway.
That air button is so good (hurtbox is hidden way behind it) I’m surprised it didn’t get nerfed like Mika’s or Ryu’s j. LK.
I hate his EX moves. EX headbutt might be slow and easy to punish but you still have to respect it since it’s not just a ‘get off me’ move, but leads into a reset/mixup everytime. And EX tackle being zero on block is just kinda stupid. I hate it when characters can just randomly throw out unreactable specials and get away with it.
Also, kind of unrelated, but I love your avatar OceanMachine. Been wanting to say that for ages now. Did you do it yourself?
I hate all of urien’s tackles and I need to suck it up and buy him so I can practice punishes. I have ex down but the regular ones when spaced well… Ugh are they safe or is his hurt box just janky?
I spent some time last weekend learning the meaty overhead setups after 6HP, etc and literally everyone I hit slow rises. Still in a good position after but dammit I wanna hear the CC crunch sound!
You can’t punish EX tackle though, it’s ±0 on block. Not sure if Urien has a 3F move though, so sticking out LP might be a good idea if he doesn’t go into YOLO headbutt afterwards.
Normal tackles are negative but by how much depends on his spacing. Don’t have any numbers unfortunately as I’m not one of those fighting game accountants.
Im now convinced you cant punish his regular headbutt at all unless you see into the future. They know this and thats why alot will spam it. If they were going to buff him like that they could have at least made those with more recovery frames.
The Akuma hype seems to finally be dying down enough that I actually get to fight other people 25% of the time. With that said, let’s talk Urien.
Regular tackles are -5/-9/-6, put out that 2MP and get punishing. For EX Tackle, Urien is a 4f character. Stick out jab and either you will get a punish, you end up + on block, or he literally just wasted 2 meter with the YOLO headbutt and probably now has to respect you on wakeup. It might not look like it’s a good situation when you get hit by EX Headbutt, but it’s really just a waste of meter on him unless he has some crazy setup or he’s about to get the kill.
I don’t know about the spacing/max range tackles though. I get punishes against them pretty consistently, but sometimes I get CH “punish” after what seems to be the same tackle at the same range and I don’t really understand why.
All non-EX headbutts are -2. Remember they only have 4f buttons. Try 2MP afterward, they have to respect it. You can confirm into M Bolt if you’ve got those hitconfirm skillz, or go for EX Clap (1 meter, but you’re either in reset land or + on block and able to get a command throw after) or L Bolt (on block -2, on hit you’ve got lots of good mixup options). Honestly, most Urien I fight are so confident in the headbutt not getting punished that you’ll get a CH most of the time. Same goes for violence knee drop, but watch the height!
I spend the beginning of each round slowly inching forward while she wastes kunai and wait for her to do something stupid like dash, jump, or restock. You need to make a mental note of how likely they are to mash ex DP on wakeup and when in your mixup pressure. Other than that you just have to be careful and always be on alert for her st. MK and crush counter HK which can wreck your buttons. I definitely think this is one of those matches now where you have to be patient and keep changing up your plan. She can definitely give us a run for our money now if we get too aggressive. Sorry that wasn’t so specific but maybe others will chime in!
Those are the numbers for his tackle point blank. They have tons of active frames so they can also become plus on block if spaced right.
If you get hit by an EX headbutt you’re also going to eat a tackle, and urien gets a meaty after that
